Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 416 ’I’m late
[Donald’s Perspective]
Austin certainly didn’t respond to my "friendly" suggestion. In fact, his speed of fleeing on foot increased significantly upon hearing my voice!
His figure quickly disappeared into the darkness ahead, and my heart sank as I quietly and swiftly commanded Elliot, "Catch him! Just keep him breathing."
Upon hearing the order, Elliot nodded slightly and took the lead to complete the shift, turning into a streak of blue light and sprinting out!
He was followed by a dozen Lycan warriors from the assault team. I had no worries about them, for even if there were thousands of troops waiting to ambush them ahead, I firmly believed they had the ability to come back unscathed.
The command to "just keep him breathing" for Austin meant that no matter what combat tactics they used, as long as Austin didn’t die on the spot, everything else was of no concern to me!
In comparison to my urgent desire to rescue Margaret and the wish to kill Henry, the "rebirth" of the traitor Austin seemed to have lost its importance to me this time around.
As I chased after him, my mind was full of various thoughts, and the rapidly dropping temperature around me soon captured my attention, prompting me to start observing the scene inside the cave carefully!
Unlike the situation at the Stone Gate, the air here was very moist, the walls of the cave were covered with various kinds of moss, and the ground was wet and full of mud, with clusters of withered and limp sea grass occasionally visible.
I almost instantly realized that the massive Stone Gate inside the cave pathway certainly didn’t appear without reason—it probably functioned like a barrier to prevent the extreme temperature differences between the two ends of the cave, and more importantly, to block the large amount of seawater from the Lilo Sea during tidal changes from backflowing!
It was there to stop the rising seawater from flooding the cave; simply put, a watertight switch placed within this huge cave!
And yet, these days were the special period of tidal changes in the Lilo Sea. The fact that Henry chose this time to urgently withdraw his troops from Poison Snake Island made me wonder if there was some compelling reason for him to do so?
Of course, this question in my mind naturally didn’t receive any answer. With a thorough madman like Henry, who could really understand his inner thoughts?
Noticing my pace slowing down, Christian glanced at me with some confusion and asked in a subdued voice, "What’s wrong, Your Majesty? Did you think of something?"
His call snapped me back from my wandering thoughts. I shook my head and replied somberly, "It’s nothing. Let’s hurry and catch up."
After entering deeper into the cave, the terrain under our feet gradually became more complicated, with not only the challenge of the muddy ground but also many forked passages appearing!
At this point, Christian stopped to discern which of the four paths in front of us was the correct route, while I zeroed in on the leftmost passage and commanded directly, "This way, everyone follow me!"
I then charged into the passage with my gun at the ready, and although Christian didn’t know why I had chosen this route, he didn’t hesitate to follow my lead. All the Lycan warriors behind me did the same; it seemed as if they would obey my next command to face death without question if that were what I asked!
This was the innate nature of soldiers to obey orders!
Of course, I absolutely cherished every Lycan under my command. Without their loyalty and absolute trust, my position as Lycan King would certainly not be secure.
After chasing through the forked caves for nearly 10 minutes, we finally saw a huge space illuminated by light not far away. Austin, and Margaret—the one who haunted my dreams—all of them were still there!
Elliot took the Lycan warriors and moved to Austin’s side. I glanced at Henry and his group, now surrounded by soldiers in the middle, and my eyes flashed with a fierce and savage glint.
"Donald!"
When that long-missed call came from not too far away, my hardened heart felt as if it was injected with a stream of fresh, boiling blood. I was slightly stunned, and then my gaze involuntarily fell back on Margaret!
"I’m sorry, baby, I came too late!" My eyes moistened with untold heartache and guilt as I looked at the fragile and thin Margaret.
To my words, Margaret smiled. Her small face was deathly pale with no hint of color, and her forehead was covered with a bloodstained bandage. She looked at me with endless tenderness and replied, "Not late! Not at all late, I knew you would come to take me home, Donald!"
As she spoke, her expression became resolute, her eyes red and filled with dependence and yearning for me.
I suppressed the urge to rush over and hold her in my arms, chuckling gently to comfort her, "Of course, I’ll take you home. Can you wait just a moment longer for me?" 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
After hearing this, Margaret promptly cried, her face adorned with glistening tears, firmly nodding at me.
I gave her a reassuring look, then turned my gaze to another woman next to her. My eyes turned cold, and I looked at the woman with a mocking laugh, "What a long time no see, Your Highness, Princess Lington!"
