A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 42: Plotting Evil
"I need you to find out everything you can about that woman. Every single detail. She is a blood sucker and she’s out for my son’s blood, and I have to stop her," Lisa barked to the person on the other end of the call, her anger radiating out of her body. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
The private investigator responded without missing a beat.
"Yes, ma’am. I will start working on it immediately," he said. Lisa hung up without saying another word.
"Are you sure about this, mother?" Laura asked, and Lisa stopped pacing to face her daughter.
"Of course I am. I will not just sit down and let that woman take my son away from me. You should have been there to see how he treated me. Like I was the imposter!"
Lisa was raving mad, and her daughter could relate. She remembered how her brother had snapped at her at the dinner when she was trying to talk to him.
He had never done that before. Curtis had always been a good brother to his sister, but that day, Laura saw a side of him that she had never seen before.
And it was because of the woman that came with him.
So Laura completely understood if their mother wanted to take measures against her.
But still... Curtis had asked them to not interfere.
"Are you really sure though?" Laura asked again.
"Curtis seemed to be pretty determined about sticking with that woman. There has to be a reason for that, no?"
Lisa sighed at the question. She took the seat opposite her daughter before she spoke.
"That woman is pregnant. And your brother seems to think that the pregnancy is his," she deadpanned.
Surprise slammed into Laura like an avalanche. She stood up and gaped at her mother.
"That woman is pregnant for Curtis? But that’s... impossible. They haven’t even known each other for that long," she stated, confusion marring her words.
Lisa nodded.
"That’s what I thought. But he insists that she is pregnant and the baby belongs to him. Which is why we have to work fast. That woman is a liar and a cheat and she has to go. Curtis is my only son. I can not just sit back and watch someone take advantage of him," Lisa stated firmly.
Laura nodded, her mind spinning with the information her mother just divulged to her.
"You’re right. She needs to go. If there should be a woman in my brother’s life, that woman should be Amanda. She is the perfect fit for Curtis."
Lisa nodded in agreement.
"I haven’t seen her in a while, by the way. Is she alright?" she asked. Laura winced slightly at her mother’s words.
"Amanda is fine. She’s just...shaken, I think. Getting arrested and thrown in jail at Curtis’s whim shook her up a lot. She needs some space, or at least that’s what she told me," Laura explained.
Lisa sighed and shook her head.
"That poor girl. Let’s send her some gifts tomorrow. She doesn’t deserve everything she went through when she just wants Curtis to have a happy life. Amanda is a sweet girl."
"I know, right?" Laura said in agreement. She had been excited at the prospect of her brother and best friend being a couple.
Seeing how Curtis was reacting towards Amanda like she was someone... beneath him made Laura’s heart break.
And to think that he had gone as far as sending her to hail.
That was so disgraceful.
Lisa stood up.
"There should be some sort of dirty secret that we can use against that bitch. Once the private investigator sends in the information we need, we will plan out our first strike. Curtis might hate us now for what we are about to do, but he will thank us in the future when he is happy and fulfilled with Amanda," she stated resolutely.
Laura was about to speak when her phone rang. Amanda was the caller.
A small wave of relief washed over Laura.
"Hey, girl. I was just thinking about you, really. You’re okay?" she asked.
Amanda spoke softly at the other end of the phone.
"I’m alright. I miss you so much. Are you at home tomorrow? I’ll be coming over to see you. There’s something we need to talk about," Amanda responded.
"Yeah. Sure. You can come over tomorrow."
The call ended and Laura turned to face her waiting mother.
"Looks like we might not have to send gifts over to Amanda. She’s coming here tomorrow. She said that there’s something we need to discuss."
Lisa listened and stood up.
"I’ll have the maids prepare her favourite food. That girl needs some Princess treatment from us after what my son made her go through. Come on," she gestured.
And Laura walked out of the room with her mother, already making a mind map about how to appeal to her best friend to not give up on her brother yet.

Amanda was welcomed with a squeal and a hug from her best friend.
"Hey, babes. I am so sorry about what Curtis did, really. Believe me, he’s in a huge fight with mother about it, and you’re going to get your rightful spot back. Please don’t give up on my brother. Please," Laura pleaded, holding one of her best friend’s hands in both of hers.
Amanda laughed at how desperate Laura was.
"That’s fine, sweetie. Of course I am not going to give up on him. He’s not the problem, Laura darling. I think we all know who the problem is here," Amanda responded, and at the subtle jab at Lara, her mouth stretched into a thin line.
Laura nodded as she served wine into identical glasses for the both of them.
"Yeah. That woman. We’ve come to a conclusion, mom and I. That girl needs to go."
Amanda’s expression turned into one of smug excitement.
"Yes, yes. Glad to see that we are all on the same page here. That is exactly what I came here to talk about with you."
And at those words, Lisa walked into the living room. Her expression brightened at the sight of Amanda, and both women shared a hug.
"Thank you so much for not holding this against my son," Lisa said, her voice filled with gratitude.
Amanda smiled at her future mother in law.
"Of course not, mother. I know better than that."
They all took their seats, and Amanda started to talk.
"I found some people who, as it turned out, were duped by that bitch, Lara. The man and the woman said Lara stayed in a pretend marriage with the man just because of the money.
It was her best friend who found out what she did. The best friend had no choice than to warn the husband. The man kicked her out and fell in love with her best friend. But Lara wasn’t done. She went ahead to start telling people that her husband cheated on her with her best friend. Which is a lie. I think this sob story is why Curtis fell for that woman. She probably told him the fake cheating story, and Curtis, honorable as he was, fell for her lies."
Lisa and Laura’s jaw was hanging open by the time Amanda was done with her story.
Rage and disbelief slammed into Lisa.
"The sheer audacity of that woman. What the actual hell?!"
Amanda nodded. "I know, right? She’s such a pretender."
Lisa turned to face Amanda.
"These people, the man and the best friend, do you know who they are? We need their help to kick Lara out."
A smile curled on Amanda’s lips.
"Yes, I do. In fact, they are employed under one of Curtis’s companies. Textiles and fashion home. And their names are Mike Blake and Tolu Greg."
