A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 91: The Three Missions (2)
"Mission has been accepted." Liz confirmed.
Serena nodded her head in understanding. She could get that one done in her spare time. There was no rush completing it right now. She had other things to focus on.
"Could you go over the next one please." Serena asked.
"Right." Liz murmured. "Your second mission will be to introduce a new food item to the village. You’ll be rewarded 100 EXP once you’ve completed this mission."
"EXP?" Serena frowned. "What is that?"
And how would she benefit from it? She was already reluctant to do this mission and seeing there were no coins as a reward, but something else had her wanting to decline it.
She was no cook after all. She was only beginning to learn how to make food and now this system wanted to have her introduce a new food item to the village. Which meant she was likely going to need a cookbook or something to get the help she needed.
It sure knew how to make her use her coins on stupid things.
Still, she should at least know what EXP was. She had an idea, but she needed to make sure her and the system were on the right page with it.
"It’s experience points." Liz explained. "You can use them to level up and get access to better features from the system. You are currently at Level 1 and need 50 EXP to increase to level 2."
Right. Liz had once said that her level was too low to access certain information once. Did that mean after she got to a certain level, she could get more information on the person behind the system?
That would be good, but Serena wasn’t sure if she was willing to sacrifice some coins for a level up. Surely there’d be other chances for her to level up.
Then again, a cookbook would make cooking much easier. She wasn’t like she was only going to use it for one thing and never again. She could use it whenever she needed to cook and would expand what they made.
Serena pursed her lips. She was on the fence with this one. So, she asked, "Can we come back to that one another time? Or do I have to accept or decline it now?"
"You have three days to decide before a mission is automatically declined." Liz answered. "Note that while you’ll have other changes to gain EXP in future missions, I recommend leveling up as much as possible. One of the other benefits to leveling up is an increase in rewards for missions."
While that did sound great, Serena wasn’t sure if an increase in rewards would be good. Quantity did not equal quality and for all she knew the system would reward with useless things.
Liz tilted its head at Serena and added, "Why are you always so hesitant with everything? This is a great chance for you and you’re not eager to jump to it."
"You pushing it is making me hesitant." Serena answered vaguely.
At least with the first mission she could understand that it was not something random that she needed to do. It was something she was going to do anyway and the reward could potentially benefit her developmental project.
If she wasn’t getting ahead of herself with that assumption.
Of course, she knew this mission was likely also targeted. After all, they’d need to prepare lots of food for the Horse Clan when they made a stop here. However, she didn’t understand the need for her to specifically bring about a new food to this world.
There were certainly more talented people out there that could get the job done much better than she ever could. That being said, this wasn’t the main issue.
Liz was trying to get her to agree to it, telling her not to let it go. And she couldn’t tell if it was because Liz was trying to help her or because it was trying to get her to go some route.
Because there were times when missions would interconnect with each other and lead her on certain paths. And who knew what path this would lead her. Of course, she could also just be being a dramatic person.
But that was the suspicious nature of hers coming out to play. Trying to look at everything from multiple different angles to understand the true agenda.
Liz shook its head at Serena’s words and said, "Alright then, I guess I’ll leave it be. Just make sure to give me an answer before three days’ time. In the meantime can I go over the last mission I found?"
"Go ahead." Serena nodded her head.
"Your third mission will be to take your first mate. You’ll be rewarded 1000 coins and 1 Pregnancy Pack once you’ve completed this mission." Liz stated.
Serena didn’t even hesitate and scoffed, "Decline mission."
There was no way in hell this system was going to force her hand in getting a mate. She already had a decent thing going with Theo and wasn’t going to need anything else. Even if it meant losing coins.
She had some standards. And she could definitely do without that pregnancy pack. She was not going to have kids. It was one thing she refused to do for this system.
Liz gaped at her decision. "Are you sure you want to decline this mission? This is your only-"
"Decline." Serena interrupted. "I refuse to be used as a birthing tool in this world. And don’t even use the population problem as an issue because I have a similar fertility to other beastwomen. Me not having kids isn’t going to have that big of a knock on effect."
"One could argue with that logic, but alright..." Liz sighed. "Your hand won’t be forced and you do have an option to decline missions.... Mission has been terminated."
Serena let out a sigh of relief she didn’t know she was holding before she said, "Alright with that out of the way, can you pull up the world map for me."
Liz nodded its head. "Right away."
As Liz did that, Serena moved to grab her stack of city planning books. She wanted to look more into the river and start planning around it. After all, water was one of the important, if not the most important factors she needed to consider.
It would allow them to live, grow lots of food and keep hygiene standards high. Her plan was to make water easily accessible within the city so people would make it a daily ritual to bathe and stay clean.
That would greatly reduce sickness and chances of outbreaks within the city. Of course, she also needed to account for waste management. But that was another problem she’d deal with once she was done with her water problem.
Well, technically both went hand-in-hand, but she needed to split up the problems into smaller issues.
First, she checked the world map, quickly finding the village and then the river by it. Which was easy enough seeing as it was the only river around for miles.
And despite large parts of the map being blackened out, the map did still show her local landmarks and where other beastmen settlements were.
It took a bit of time following the river, but found it heading south and ending into the ocean. It split into multiple other rivers, streams and lagoons with some other rivers feeding into parts of it too.
There were a few beastmen settlements around, but they didn’t seem to use the main river the Rabbit Village did. Which hopefully meant that if she made some kind or dam or reservoir, it wouldn’t affect them too much.
Well except for one small village nearby. It was a weak village similar to the Rabbit Village, but had the Panda Clans living there instead.
Perhaps I should reach out a hand to them and have them join the city. We’ll need more manpower eventually and I’m sure they’ll like the benefits of getting more resources. Serena mused to herself. I’ll need to check with the Council about the two villages’ relationship first.
She didn’t want to accidentally lean a hand to any of the village’s sworn enemies. Speaking of which, she was probably going to need to make a note of that for future reference. That way they could avoid dealing with those clans.
Once she was done confirming where the river went, Serena began looking for the source of the river. However, that task was proving much more difficult than the first part.
Eventually after getting lost around the mountainous region for the fourth time, Serena gave up trying to follow the river to its source and turned her attention to Liz.
"Could you tell me where this river’s source is?" Serena asked the system.
"That information is currently unavailable." Liz stated. "You will need to increase your level to access the search and find feature of the map."
Serena narrowed her eyes at the words, knowing instantly that this was no coincidence. With a sigh, she muttered, "Fine I accept that second mission."
