A New Life In The Beast World-Chapter 80: Breakfast Time
Once Jason left to go hunting, Serena and Theo set to work preparing for the day ahead. Serena let Theo get a fire going, after warning him multiple times not to use his right arm, before getting to work on preparing some meat.
She also planned to make a few roasted brown roots and by the time the sun was fully up in the sky they were finishing up preparing breakfast. Kiro soon woke up with the smell of roasting meat drawing out of his slumber.
Serena glanced over at the cub as he stepped out of the hut and was rubbing his eye. He stopped in front of them and said groggily, "Is breakfast done?"
"Not yet." Serena answered. "Go wash your hands and face. Breakfast is almost done."
Kiro silently nodded his head and walked over to the bucket of water they always kept on hand. He dipped a small bowl inside the bucket, scooping out some water before he wiped his face and hands with the cold water and a small piece of fur.
The temperature of the water didn’t affect Serena and Kiro as much as it did for others because they were snow leopard beastmen and their inner temperatures tended to run higher thanks to their beast form’s thick fur coats.
That being said, Serena figured it was probably about time they began boiling water with the cold season about a blue moon away. It would be a tedious job, but it was better than getting something like frostbite from freezing, cold water.
Most of the rabbit beastmen were already beginning to travel less and less to the river to bathe instead opting to boil water and use an old fur to wipe themselves down. Some even did that all year around.
Once Kiro was done cleaning himself up, he tossed the water out onto the grass covering the area around the hut before hurrying over to Theo and Serena. He took a seat next to Theo and gazed longingly at the meat roasting over the fire.
"Is it done now?" Kiro asked eagerly.
Serena glanced over at the meat sizzling on a large flat stone placed over the fire before using her kitchen stick to lift the meat. After checking that it was thoroughly cooked, she answered, "It’s done. Hand me the bowls."
Kiro did as he was told and Serena quickly divided the meat slices between them. Theo got two extra slices of meat because Kiro and her were eating roasted brown roots along with their slices of meat.
"Thanks for the food." Theo and Kiro both exclaimed when they got their bowls of food.
Serena nodded her head, taking a seat next to them with her bowl of food in hand. The scent of the cooked food entered her nose, making her stomach suddenly grumbled in hunger.
"No problem... Kiro, be careful it’s hot!" Serena cried out.
However her warning came too late and Kiro let out a whine. Serena instantly set her bowl down and went to check on the young cub, shaking her head at the sight of his slightly burnt lip.
That’ll teach me to give him hot food right away... Serena muttered to herself before she murmured, "Let’s get some cold water on that. Does your mouth hurt too?"
Kiro nodded his head and Serena sighed, getting back up to fetch him some water. She then knelt down in front of him and handed him the water to drink. He quickly gulped down the water, letting it ease the pain.
Once he was done, Serena took the wooden cup from him and said, "Now don’t rush. Your food isn’t going anywhere, so eat slowly, okay."
"Okay..." Kiro nodded his head, only to go back to devouring his food like he was starving.
Serena sighed, grabbing another cup of water in case they had a round two before sitting back down to enjoy her breakfast.

"Sister, I’m off to play!" Kiro exclaimed, running off the second they were done cleaning up after breakfast.
Serena turned her attention to him and yelled back, "Don’t leave the village center and come back by lunch time!"
"Let me go keep an eye on him." Theo murmured, walking back out of the hut. "You won’t let me do much, but at least this is fine."
"If you want to, but it’s not nessecary... He’s played by the village center all on his own plenty of time." Serena shrugged, checking that the fire was completely put out. "I’m going to head out and get some more plants. I should be back before lunch time."
As she spoke, she moved to the hut to grab her basket with Theo trailing behind her and responding, "I don’t mind. I need something to do anyway... Just make sure you stay close to the village when you go out."
"I will." Serena agreed, knowing it would ease the tiger beastman’s mind.
Besides, she didn’t plan to actually go out far anyways. It was way too soon to be testing out her luck by going out deep into the forest. Because she would a hundred percent run into rootless beastmen.
And she wasn’t really up to testing how well her training was going. She wanted to avoid that as much as possible.
Once Serena strapped on her basket, the two headed to the village, soon parting ways as Theo went to find Kiro and Serena went out to forage for some food. She kept close to where the other rabbit beastmen were and searched for vegetables.
She found a few more purple roots which she quickly harvested as well as some orange roots. There were also a few colorful berries around, but Serena left them for now.
She wanted to focus on finding another vegetable to stock up on so she could complete the plant’s part of her cold season preparation mission. But before she could find anything, she unexpectedly ran into someone.
"Oh Serena! Good morning." Elder Samuel greeted. "I was just about to look for you."
"Morning Elder Samuel." Serena greeted back. "What do you need?"
Elder Samuel sheepishly replied, "Well, we began setting some traps, but we need help with them."
