Serena gazed at the new mission, biting her lip. What she needed to hunt wasn’t a problem since Theo regularly caught them. Nor did she have any problem in hunting herself.

If anything, this was a great chance to test out how well she could hunt in her beast form. The problem was when she was going to get a chance to slip away and do this.

Because it wasn’t just her catching the prey, it was also about tracking it down and who knew how long that would take. Theo normally took half a day to bring in one prey and he was an experienced hunter.

She couldn’t really say she was on the same level. At least not yet.

If she was going to accept this mission, then she was going to have to prepare for the chance that she could be gone for a day or two. Depending on her luck.

That was at least two days away from Kiro and helping Theo with preparing for the cold season. And she couldn’t just leave like that either. People would be worried if she suddenly disappeared.

Not to mention, she’d need to go deep into the forest and could encounter monster hordes. They already had that incident with the bird beastman and Serena didn’t want to be the second person injured from monsters.

If not killed.

However, she also couldn’t just decline the mission. This was her one chance of getting pen and paper. Otherwise, she’d be stuck trying to figure out the ancient way of making ink and paper.

Guess the only way is to do this mission over several days,. Serena sighed to herself. Start with the birds since they’ll be easier to find and then move onto the deer. I’ll need to figure out an excuse for that though...

She could probably do it under the guise of foraging for food, but she’d still need to be careful. She couldn’t have any rabbit beastmen lingering around when she disappeared nor run into Theo if he decided to hunt.

That would be a disaster.

In the end, she did the only thing she could. She accepted the mission. A moment later a new system notification came up.

[Mission has been accepted.]

She ignored the message, turning her attention back to the world map. She wanted to see if she could find a good route to propose to the Horse Clan. From the intel she got, she knew the nearest cities they traveled to were the Crystal City and the Mer City.

The Crystal City was to the west and the current supplier of goods to the Forest City, so she doubted they would be happy making a trade route between them and the Forest City for the Horse Clan. They’d be losing out on crystals.

Not to mention, the Rabbit Village was too far south for a trade route to make sense. There were several other villages and tribes closer that would work better as a resting point.

Thus, she turned her attention to the Mer City. She knew from the novel that it was an underwater city with a land outpost that linked the land and sea beastmen. It was also one of two places where beastmen could get sea salt.

The other was much further north and out of the way.

Since the Mer City supplied the south with salt, the Horse Clan definitely made a stop there. And from the looks of it, the Rabbit Village was right between the Forest City and the Mer City.

It was almost as if the universe was creating the perfect chance for her.

They’d need to properly chart out the route, but from the looks of it on the map, it could actually work well for them. There was some forest between the Mer City and Rabbit Village, but most was beach and open fields.

Perfect for the Horse Clan. They’d need to suffer a bit of forest to the Rabbit Village and then between the Forest City and the Rabbit Village. But that shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

From what Elder Samuel told her, the Horse Clan hated going into the forest because of rootless beastmen and the lack of available food. The former could be dealt with by the Forest City.

But the latter needed addressing. They wouldn’t be able to forage for food while traveling and needed lots to have enough energy to carry all their goods around. Which was why they did stops at large tribes.

The market might not be great, but there was a higher chance of them getting food for their travels. Which was what the Rabbit Village needed to do.

The only problem was, the village didn’t farm more than each family needed and foraging had a limit. They couldn’t take too much in case it affected the forest.

Her idea was to get farming done on a larger scale, enough so they could feed the village and more. However, farming needed skills and not just everyone could do it.

They would need to experiment to see what would work well on growing at a large scale. Not only that, but what plants stored easily and for long periods of time. They may also have to look into preserving plants.

Honestly, the whole thing was a massive undertaking and she hadn’t even considered development of the village as a whole. Just the farming aspect.

Still at least one good thing came out of this - she had a proper route now. They would just need to chart it out once the Rainy Season came.
