Beast Taming: I'm Really Just a Forest Ranger-Chapter 106 - 101: Emergency Rescue
After a busy morning, it was already noon.
With the combined efforts of Chen Yuan and the little ones, the farm was finally restored to its state before the storm’s upheaval.
Chen Yuan was about to rest when he received a call from Song Guohao: "Chen, are you free now? Can you come to the rescue station?"
"Okay." Chen Yuan agreed, calling Spark and Cola, and headed towards the rescue station.
After a night of heavy rain, the village roads were a bit muddy, and villagers were busy tidying up their yards. A Puppy Team made up of Gale Hunting Dogs and Fire Dogs was running around, barking incessantly.
"Woof woof~"
Cola looked at them with envy.
"What’s up? Want to play with them?" Chen Yuan laughed.
Since Cola was born, it stayed on the farm. After its evolution, it followed Chen Yuan everywhere, rarely having a chance to join the Puppy Team for play.
"Woof!"
Cola immediately responded.
"Then if there’s nothing later, you can go play with them."
"Woof woof!"
Upon entering the rescue station, Song Guohao was already waiting eagerly, with Zhang Hao standing nearby.
"Chen, there’s something I need your help with." Song Guohao got straight to the point.
"It’s like this, three days ago, a couple of Beastmasters from Nanhe Town entered Qinling. When they signed the agreement, they stated they would return in two days."
Pausing briefly, Song Guohao continued, "But when it was time for them to return, the couple was nowhere to be found."
Chen Yuan nodded thoughtfully.
According to current regulations, all Beastmasters attempting to enter the wilderness must get approval from the forestry bureau or the Beastmaster Association and sign related agreements to determine their departure and return times, reporting back to the relevant units upon their return.
Given the uncertainties of wilderness exploration, the return time has some leeway, but if they don’t return after more than a day, it’s classified as missing.
"They’re worried that something may have happened to the couple, so they want the forest rangers and related rescue personnel in the nearby area to go into the mountain to search and rescue."
"Originally, this matter didn’t require your involvement, but our rescue station currently has only two Beastmasters. Shao Yang is busy with other matters and can’t spare the time, so we have to ask you and Zhang Hao to head into the mountains together." Song Guohao looked at Chen Yuan, speaking slowly.
Chen Yuan grinned: "This is simple, after all, I’m also considered a part-time staff at the rescue station."
Song Guohao was relieved: "Then I’ll leave it to you."
He simultaneously felt a twinge of guilt, as he’s troubled Chen Yuan for help multiple times since the latter became a Beastmaster, feeling the need to return the favor in the future.
"You’re too polite, Song."
Later, Song Guohao took out a map, pointing north of Xuanhe Village: "This is your search and rescue route."
This route was just the opposite of Chen Yuan’s usual forest ranger route; one was to the north, the other to the east.
"Remember, if you don’t find them before dark, you need to retreat promptly. Last night’s storm likely had a significant impact on the surrounding forest." Song Guohao advised earnestly.
Zhang Hao laughed: "Don’t worry, Song, with Chen around, it’s very safe."
"Check what else you might need; once you’re ready, head out quickly," Song Guohao urged.
Chen Yuan laughed: "If we retreat before dark, we don’t need to bring anything else."
He glanced at Cola, crouched by his leg: "Just need to bring the Pet Beast."
A moment later,
Song Guohao watched Chen Yuan and Zhang Hao leave the rescue station, their figures gradually disappearing into the distance.
"Chen, don’t you think this kind of thing is pretty ridiculous?" As they walked side by side toward the north of the village, Zhang Hao suddenly spoke.
"Hmm? What do you mean?" Chen Yuan was taken aback.
Zhang Hao said seriously, "More and more Beastmasters are going into the wilderness for adventure. It’s not feasible for us to search for all missing persons, right?"
"We forestry officers are just ordinary folks familiar with the mountains, not professional rescuers."
After a slight pause, he continued, "Each Beastmaster entering the wilderness should sign a life-and-death agreement, taking full responsibility for any outcomes."
"Considering the sheer number of Beastmasters, how can we possibly save everyone?"
Chen Yuan pondered, "You raise a valid point."
After this storm, more ordinary people will become Beastmasters, and as the group grows, it will lead to many uncontrollable impacts.
The number of Beastmasters going on wilderness adventures is bound to soar.
"I believe the Beastmaster Association should introduce different agreements for different situations," Zhang Hao’s eyes lit up as he explained enthusiastically, "For example, the lowest level agreement would be the life-and-death agreement, where individuals take responsibility for accidents."
"The second tier would be a rescue agreement, where the association must organize a search and rescue if time in the mountain is exceeded."
"The top tier would be a full-bodyguard agreement, where the association sends someone to accompany the entire journey, devising the safest and most efficient exploration route."
"The lowest tier agreement is free, the second tier moderately priced, and the top tier the most expensive."
Chen Yuan silently gave a thumbs-up: "Honestly, you’re overqualified to be a forest ranger."
Zhang Hao tousled his hair, chuckling: "These are just basics. I have even more comprehensive ideas..."
As Zhang Hao shared his series of thoughts, the two had already left Xuanhe Village far behind, entering the northern forest.
Chen Yuan reminded: "Alright, time to get down to business."
"Got it." Zhang Hao nodded, then with a thought, a gray magic array appeared before him, and the Gray-armored Wild Boar shrouded in white light slowly emerged, rushing towards Zhang Hao.
Zhang Hao, having anticipated this, sidestepped expressionlessly, thus avoiding being knocked down by the Gray-armored Wild Boar.
Subsequently, the Gray-armored Wild Boar walked over to Zhang Hao’s side, affectionately rubbing its head against his body.
The massive physique of the Gray-armored Wild Boar and the somewhat lean figure of Zhang Hao leaned closely together, forming a stark contrast.
