Chapter 68: World Map

Serena spent two hours making plans with Elder Samuel when the older beastman was suddenly called away to help with something. Before they parted ways, they planned to meet up again tomorrow to continue with their development plans.

There was still quite a bit to go over and Serena’s mind was swimming from all the new intel she had gotten from Elder Samuel. So much so, she was back to a problem she hadn’t solved yet.

Her need for pen and paper.

She could just keep it in her subspace, so hiding it was no longer a problem. However, she still lacked the items to make notes, something she would definitely need to do if she wanted to get everything organized properly.

There were way too many things for her to go over and a lot hanging on this plan. She couldn’t mess it up by forgetting any important details.

Sighing to herself, Serena headed back to the hut, wondering how she was going to solve this problem. The system shop didn’t have any pen or paper, much to her surprise, so that route was useless.

From what she understood, paper was made from trees so she could make her own, but how exactly was the issue. Serena lacked quite a bit of knowledge on making simple things and had to learn everything. It was a wonder she was able to survive for so long.

As for ink, Serena was just as lost. She’d basically need something that could stain the paper. That train of thought suddenly sparked an idea in her as she glanced down at her purple stained fingertips.

She had roasted some of the purple roots to try them out when she accidentally squeezed one while cleaning it and got purple juice all over her hands. Safe to stay, she quickly understood what Wilma meant by them staining.

Thankfully, most of the purple stain came off her fingers if she washed them right away, but the ones she let dry didn’t come off so easily. She almost scrubbed her skin off trying to get the purple marks off.

Which made the purple juice from the purple roots a perfect substitute for ink. At least until she found a proper solution. As for paper, she was going to have to find a different solution for now.

Before she could think of a substitute for paper, Serena found herself back home. She quietly headed inside, remembering that Theo told her he was going to nap, and indeed found him napping inside.

Kiro was also napping right where she left him while Theo lay in his usual corner in his beast form. The tiger beastman snapped an eye open for a second, glancing at her before drifting off to sleep.

Not wanting to disturb them, Serena headed back out of the hut, checked for anyone lingering around before slipping into her subspace. While using it, she had discovered time was completely frozen within the space.

In other words, she could be inside the space for what seemed like hours, only to leave the space and find almost no time had passed in the real world. It was an incredible find and something Serena had been taking advantage of.

Especially when she couldn’t sleep at night. She’d slip into her subspace and train her body until she exhausted herself. Then she’d slip back out and fall asleep thanks to her exhausted body winning against her mind.

Of course, it didn’t stop the nightmares completely, but at least she was getting proper sleep for the most part, usually only waking up around dawn.

Once Serena was inside her subspace, she organized it a bit before she took a seat in the center of the white room. In the left hand corner sat several baskets filled with things she had collected or added to the subspace.

"System." Serena called out loudly, not fearing anyone hearing her. "Is it possible to get pen and paper from the system?"

Did her question make it like she was desperate? Yes it did. But she wanted to make sure she had checked every viable option. The System Shop was massive and something could’ve easily slipped past her.

A familiar blue screen popped up in front of her.

[Searching...]

[There are currently no pen or paper items in the System Shop. Would you like to check for anything else?]

Serena sighed at the response, pretty much expecting that result. She then pursed her lips at the question, wondering what she should ask first. In the end she decided to just ask everything at once.

"Is there a map of the Beastworld?" Serena asked. "Also is there any way to get pen and paper from the system?"

Honestly, she probably should’ve asked these questions to the system a long time ago. However, Serena didn’t find them to be such a pressing matter and wanted to focus more on getting her life in this world more stable.

But now, if she wanted to move forward and improve her life, she was going to need both pen and paper and a map of the Beastworld. The former for keeping notes and the latter to help her with her trade route idea.

She wanted to see where all the cities were located, map out current trade routes the Horse Clan took as well as the possible trade route to the Forest City that the Rabbit Village could offer the traveling merchants.

After all, she was going to need to use the Forest City to negotiate terms with the Horse Clan because there was no doubt those merchants wouldn’t even think of hearing out what they had to say.

Better to have the market they wanted send out the invite and route they could use. Then the village could take over from there.

[Opening World Map....]

As soon as the system notification came up, a giant map appeared in front of Serena. A large red x marked where she was currently and parts of the forested area around the x mark were lit up.

Along with a portion of a mountainous area north of the forest called the Rocky Mountains. Which was where the original owner’s tribe was from. Cities, large tribes and even villages were marked as well.

But what was curious was the fact, most of the map was dark and it was hard to make out the details on it compared to the lit up areas.

[You have currently explored 3% of the world.]

So, that’s why it’s like this. Serena mused to herself. The lit up parts show where I’ve been. This would’ve been helpful if I had it from the start...

The system sure did enjoy making her look for its features. Not that she did much exploring to check what it offered. But she only had herself to blame for that.

Before she could check out more of the map, a new message came up on the screen that caught her interest.
