Chapter 584: One word becomes a prophecy

It took a full two hours from the airport to the ancestral home of the Stephens family.

After entering the manor, it took another half an hour before reaching Lady Stephens’ residence.

It was a snow-white cottage.

Ryan Smith opened the car door, jumped out, and shouted towards the cottage as if he knew it well: "Auntie, I brought Daisy Ginger over!"

Soon, a slender figure emerged from the vermilion gate. Daisy looked up and saw Lady Stephens, whom she hadn’t seen in four years.

In the winter, Lady Stephens, petite, was draped in a snow-white fur. Her meticulously maintained face showed hardly any traces of time and was still as delicate and lovely as Daisy remembered.

Daisy’s expression slightly dimmed. Even though she had forgiven Edward Stephens, she couldn’t forgive the woman she once trusted and relied on so much.

"Daisy..." Lady Stephens approached, her expression somewhat dazed. She lowered her head and saw the little Erin Ginger standing beside Daisy. She seemed shocked and was at a loss for words for a long time.

"Auntie, I’ll head to the hospital to see Edward first." Ryan, unknowingly, sat back in the car, waved to Lady Stephens, and said, "I’ll get going then. I’ve brought her to you, so you guys talk!"

With that said, he drove off in a flash.

A small head peeked out from within the vermilion door.

"Daisy, why did you bring this ugly thing to my house!"

George Stephens was actually at Lady Stephens’ residence. Maybe he heard the noise outside and ran out in thin loungewear.

Upon seeing Erin standing next to Daisy, his little face was full of disdain.

"Little George, don’t talk nonsense!"

Lady Stephens hastily picked George up and handed him over to the housekeeper who had rushed out. She seemed very fond of him, "Why did you run out without wearing clothes? Did you forget about your cold a few days ago?"

"Grandma, put me down!" George squirmed restlessly in the housekeeper’s arms, "Don’t let this ugly thing into the house; I hate him so much!"

"Am I ugly?" Quiet for a while, Erin suddenly raised his head, looked at George earnestly, and said, "Obviously, you’re uglier."

George froze for a moment, looking at Erin in disbelief, pointing at himself, "I’m ugly? Are you blind!"

Erin raised his head and looked at Daisy, "Mommy, am I good-looking?"

Daisy, never failing to give her son face, nodded and affirmed, "Yes."

Erin turned his head back to George, "You’re the blind one."

With Daisy’s affirmation, this conclusion became much more convincing.

George was utterly infuriated.

He resembled a small fire-spitting dragon, angrily roaring in the housekeeper’s arms, "Grandma, don’t let them in! I forbid it!"

Lady Stephens was befuddled. She quickly asked the housekeeper to take George away and awkwardly said to Daisy, "Daisy, Little George is spoiled by me; please don’t mind."

Daisy shook her head and softly said, "It’s cold outside; let’s talk inside."

"Yes, yes, we can talk inside."

Lady Stephens spoke while sneaking glances at Erin. The child had distinct and fine features, especially those eyes, which were exactly like Edward as a child. Because of his fair skin, those dark and thickly lashed eyes were particularly striking.

Seeing Erin, she had a ton of questions she wanted to ask Daisy.

The interior of Lady Stephens’ house was not much different from the villa in Banyan City, in color and arrangement, it was another replica.

The servant came up and served them tea. Daisy, holding Erin, sat on the sofa.

She looked at Lady Stephens and said, "Ryan said you wanted to see me."

Lady Stephens, still somewhat distracted by Erin, came back to her senses when she heard Daisy’s words. She concealed it by raising her hand, sipping some floral tea, and nodded, "Yes, I already know about what happened with you and Edward in Tsing City..."

Daisy interrupted her and asked directly, "Ryan said Edward has already woken up, which means he should be fine now. I want to see him; can I?"

Lady Stephens looked at her and fell silent because of her question.

Daisy slowly clenched her hand, her chest felt stifled, and she used all her strength not to lose composure. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

"Is it not possible to see him?" she asked again, "Why? Ryan said he’s out of life danger, now undergoing rehabilitation in the hospital. Why? Since he’s awake, why hasn’t he reached out to me?"

Tears uncontrollably fell from her eyes.

She didn’t want to frighten Erin or lose face in front of the child, but the heart she had suppressed for three months lost restraint upon seeing Lady Stephens.

She actually had a guess. When she saw Ryan and heard his words, she secretly had a guess, but it wasn’t until she arrived in Chicago and saw Lady Stephens with her own eyes that she realized she couldn’t accept this imagination.

"Daisy..." Seeing her cry, Lady Stephens, in a panic, quickly handed over tissues. Her brows showed grief, and she hesitated to speak. "Calm down, don’t scare the child. Edward... if you want to see him today, I’ll bring you over later, only..."

Daisy, with her head lowered, said, "Only he doesn’t remember me, correct?"

Lady Stephens’ lips moved, the grief between her brows deepening.

Daisy’s tears fell on the tissue in her hand; Lady Stephens’ silence confirmed her guess.

At this moment, she simply didn’t know whether to be happy that Edward was fine or to grieve for herself.

"Honestly, I don’t know why either." Lady Stephens’ voice choked up, her eyes reddening, and she said softly, "Perhaps it’s retribution from the heavens for me. I shouldn’t have lied to you. Edward, after waking up, doesn’t remember anyone. The doctors said his brain was impacted by the car accident, a severe concussion. Although they operated and removed the blood clot, they said they didn’t know what part was affected; he’s forgotten everything."

"We’ve consulted many neurologists, all world-renowned, but the brain is too complex, and the doctors can’t explain it... Robert suggested a treatment alongside rehabilitation. I was afraid you’d be heartbroken waiting alone in Banyan City, so I asked Ryan to bring you over." Lady Stephens’ eyes were also tearing up. She looked up at Daisy and shook her head, "Daisy, it’s my fault. If I hadn’t lied to you back then, this wouldn’t have turned into reality, and I wouldn’t have cursed Edward this way..."

Back then, she lied to Daisy, saying Edward had lost all his memories, which was why he forgot her, and now, indeed, her son had truly forgotten everything.

Daisy was stunned for a moment.

Even though she was mentally prepared, when Lady Stephens revealed the truth, her mind was still blank.

Wasn’t it promised that he wouldn’t let her wait for him...

How could he deceive her?
