As soon as they arrived at the hunting ground, a snowy white fox rushed toward them. Jagged icicles rapidly formed around its body.

He activated his visual prowess, seeing straight through the fox’s structural weaknesses in an instant, making sure the spells landed perfectly.

The Frost Fox violently shuddered as the explosive elemental reaction and critical multiplier hit it at the exact same time. It collapsed dead into the snow.

Sylvia and Caelus immediately stepped forward.

Just as quickly, the snow shifted. Three more Frost Foxes leaped out from the trees. They were all Elite tier.

This time, Sylvia made her move.

BLOOD MANIPULATION!

Crimson blood and frozen earth fused together, forming sharp, twisted stakes. They violently drilled into one of the Frost Foxes as she clapped her hands together.

"Petrification, huh?" Caelus smiled.

He shot forward, delivering another massive attack.

The remaining foxes screeched and lunged directly at Caelus and Sylvia.

INFERNO TORNADO!

WATER DRAGON SOARING THE HEAVEN!

The ethereal water dragon surged outward just as the massive tornado of fire formed. The two elements violently collided over the foxes.

Ding!

The Frost Foxes shrieked and fell one by one as the boiling steam cooked them alive.

A Combat Score of 4 was something they both could easily manage.

"50 EXP, huh?" Caelus smiled. Fighting over level was one thing; fighting over rank was another. The latter gave more overall EXP. The best part was that as long as he wasn’t Silver Rank yet, the EXP received wouldn’t go down.

At the exact same time, the gathered Origin Beast Essences reached a total of three.

Ding!

Caelus’s cells thumped with intense vitality as his power spiked.

But he didn’t stop there. Armed with a Combat Score of over 4, he grew more daring. He and Sylvia pushed further into the freezing region.

Soon, they encountered a towering, snow-white bear. Thick, frosty rock formations grew out of its back like armor. Directly behind it sat an ornate treasure chest glowing with a faint red light.

"Let’s go," Caelus said. Sylvia nodded firmly beside him.

"Be careful," Caelus warned. "We might have strong skills that add flat damage, but it will not work on this thing unless we trigger Elemental Reaction."

They had plenty of Combat Score buffs, but no flat damage multipliers. Therefore, their raw damage output would be strictly limited to their current Bronze II tier.

But the good thing was... this tyrant actually had a visible HP bar!

The instant they stepped into the clearing, the Frost Bear reacted violently. It let out a deafening roar. Five Frost Foxes instantly rushed out from the surrounding trees to defend it.

Caelus snorted.

ICICLE IMPALEMENT!

He utilized his Frost Monarch skill, dealing massive AOE to all the beasts.

He then tried to forcibly ignite his Chaos Dragon Body once more for the extra stat amplification.

However, to his shock, the instant he tried to force the transformation, a violent draconic energy assaulted his internal organs.

"Ugh—!"

Caelus spat out a mouthful of dark blood and stumbled backward.

[Please calm your internal flow before utilizing the Chaos Dragon Body again.]

Just as quickly, the massive Frost Bear blurred and appeared right beside him. But the AoE effect of the Icicle Impalement appeared between them, forcefully pushing the bear back just enough. By that time, Sylvia was already standing protectively in front of Caelus.

"Are you alright?" Sylvia asked in deep concern.

They did not have any Bronze II health potions on them. If he wanted to heal, he could only rely on natural regeneration.

"I’m fine. I tried to force my Chaos Dragon Body, but it seems it isn’t that simple," Caelus grunted, wiping the blood from his mouth and standing up.

He checked the beast’s health.

It hadn’t taken a single point of damage yet.

He turned to Sylvia. "You can use Spatial Displacement, right?"

"Yes," Sylvia nodded.

"Good. Get ready to attack," Caelus ordered.

He charged straight in. If he was caught off guard and about to take lethal damage, Sylvia would instantly shift places with him.

Caelus unleashed the spells back-to-back at point-blank range.

The bear roared in agony as the explosive elemental reaction dealt massive bursts of true damage in rapid succession. This was the sheer power of elemental combat in this zone.

At the same time, Sylvia stayed in the backline, slaughtering the summoned Frost Foxes. Whenever Caelus was at risk of being caught off guard, she used spatial displacement to switch places and deal damage. By now, all the foxes were completely eliminated.

Seeing this, Caelus activated his talent.

Enraged, the beast roared. It formed a gigantic, jagged icicle in the air and hurled it directly at Caelus.

Caelus sneered.

"Iris."

WHRMM!

An anti-magic barrier erupted. The massive icicle crashed into the shield and harmlessly dissipated into mist.

Caelus immediately countered.

REFLA!

JIRASAD!

Refla and Jirasad only cost 2 CA each. They were his absolute best bet in this environment to continuously trigger Overload without running out of energy.

BOOM! BOOM!

Under the relentless elemental barrage, the massive Frost Bear finally collapsed.

As soon as the beast fell, Caelus walked past its corpse and popped open the glowing treasure chest.

"Not bad," Caelus commented as he stood back up. His Combat Score had reached a solid 8.

"Let’s keep moving."

He and Sylvia soon found the second Frost Bear. They teamed up perfectly, repeating their strategy to slaughter the tyrant and its summoned minions.

His HP was still at a risky 165. It didn’t restore with the level up as it should have, but he didn’t care. Time was of the essence. He believed it was because of the internal damage from the draconic energy; he needed to cleanse it first for his HP to restore.

They quickly moved on to track down the final target.

With this last Frost Bear, their banked essences would convert, and their Combat Score would officially spike again.

The spells erupted continuously from Caelus’s hands. He dealt massive, explosive blows to the bear. Here, elemental reactions were absolutely superior. As a newly minted Mage, chaining spells felt as easy as a walk in the park for him.

Soon, the last bear fell with a heavy thud.

Caelus grabbed the final Frost Core and absorbed the massive chunk of EXP from the boss and its foxes. This time, there was a massive number of foxes to clear.

By now, Caelus’s hands had grown numb, his breath turning to ice on his lips as he relentlessly used his spells. The frostbite was no joke. The elemental reaction did all the work, but the sheer cold was dragging their stamina straight to the abyss.

It was simple: starting now, he needed stronger opponents’ essence. His combat score had reached 12 with the Frost Bear’s CS, after all. He couldn’t have anything below it now. This was a problem he had faced since the beginning, so it was no surprise. He could, of course, still hunt down Frost Bears and get essence out of it as they possessed superior CS and his body hadn’t gotten used to it yet.1

Then, at that exact moment, they both noticed something terrifying.

"Caelus... our Frostbite bars," Sylvia said, her voice shaking slightly.

[Frostbite Bar: 97%]

"Shit," Caelus’s expression turned incredibly grim as he breathed heavily.

No wonder his Aura had reached 1 and, even with the level up, didn’t restore back to full. It was because of this high Frostbite.

If they died here to the Frostbite, all the levels, the Frost Cores, the Origin Credits, the Reputation tokens, and the permanent Combat Score they just farmed would instantly reset to the moment they saved at the mysterious figure’s location.
