Chapter 28: The Town of Horrors. Part-3.

From the broken areas in the hut, Zephyr could see that the sun was rising and it was already morning.

Exploring the first giant hut brought him good loot, so Zephyr decided to explore more and search for food and water sources nearby.

’These wooden huts haven’t been destroyed by the photon rain until now... could it be that the photon worm bombardment doesn’t happen in this area?’

Thinking about this question in his mind, Zephyr slipped out of the hut from the same place he had entered and tried to observe the situation outside.

After a short wait, the morning fully arrived, and sure enough, the overwhelmingly powerful photon worm bombardment started almost instantly, but this time Zephyr’s heart didn’t tremble.

He didn’t feel any danger whatsoever.

Soon Zephyr realized that the reason for this was that the photon worm bombardment was not hitting the giant’s settlement at all!

For some odd reason, the laser beam rainfall was limited to a few meters away from the wooden fence of the settlement, and everything inside the scope of the wooden fence was completely safe from the bombardment!

Seeing this scene, Zephyr didn’t feel happy at all, as even more questions had piled up in his mind now after seeing this situation.

"The laser beams are not targeting this settlement, and unlike outside, there is no ash on the ground here... What is so special about this settlement that it’s almost isolated and unaffected by the sea of ash outside?"

If the sea of ash was bizarre, then this strange settlement was even more bizarre than that.

’I have to be cautious...’

Shaking his head, Zephyr stopped thinking about these things, as he knew that it was only going to be a waste of time.

Entering the hut, Zephyr made his way towards the door of the giant hut in order to head deeper into the town.

Just when Zephyr was only one step away from stepping outside the hut, a strange muffled and distant whisper entered his ear out of nowhere.

{Beware of Ash...}

The muffled whisper was extremely quiet, and if not for the fact that everything around him was dead silent, Zephyr wouldn’t have even noticed it.

But the moment Zephyr heard that whisper, he felt a chill run down his spine as he hurriedly glanced towards the grave he had dug earlier.

It was faint and barely noticeable, but Zephyr noticed a silhouette standing atop that grave.

The silhouette soon disappeared into nothingness as if it had never even existed, but Zephyr was sure that he hadn’t seen it wrong.

At that moment, Zephyr felt happy that he had taken his time to bury the remains of the dead person after taking the armor.

’Even though the armour was something I pulled from the system... it was summoned while following the rules of this horror game world...’

’This means, in the future, whenever I pull some artifact, I must use it cautiously... I can’t always fully rely and trust the system 100 percent...’

If the horror game was a bizarre place filled with incomprehensible phenomena, then his system was something that was even more incomprehensible and bizarre than this horror world.

Zephyr had to be careful of it too.

’In this place... I must not fully believe in anything, or I will suffer...’

Thinking about these things in his mind, Zephyr hurriedly left the hut, as he didn’t want to stay in that haunted place any longer.

...

After walking for a few more minutes, Zephyr arrived at the edge of a cliff and realized that the giant hut was built on higher ground.

From the top of that hill, Zephyr could see a lot of area below.

There were dozens of huts in sight, and there were more near the horizon that he couldn’t fully see due to other huts getting in the way.

The streets were made of polished stones, and there were even streetlamps with torches still burning placed on them.

Some huts were old and broken wooden ones, while some were more well-maintained.

Zephyr could even see a massive stone house located near the central area with a massive plaza around it.

The place seemed like a small town; it’s just that the scale of it was insanely massive.

"It’s reeking of rot and blood... one, two, three... There are so many corpses lying on the streets... What is even happening in this place?"

Just from his position, Zephyr could see the corpses of giants lying on the ground everywhere.

The houses were intact, and there were no signs of battle whatsoever, which meant that all these giants died without even having the chance to fight back.

One of the giants was missing its entire upper torso, while the other was missing its entire right side of the body. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

"The condition of their death is pretty similar to the giant dead body I saw on my way here to this town... it is likely the work of the same attacker."

"I need to keep a low profile. Someone who can slaughter powerful beings like these giants so easily would obviously be able to make quick work of me too..."

Being killed swiftly was actually a good scenario; if the attacker turned out to be some kind of perverted sadist beast, Zephyr might end up being turned into something similar to the doll that he stripped of clothes.

Shaking his head, Zephyr put his gas mask on just in case to prevent any contagious disease from those dead bodies from affecting him and started walking towards the inner areas of the town.

’I might have to search all these huts one by one, as I don’t see any visible source of water anywhere...’

[Perfect Stealth!]

To hide his presence as much as possible, Zephyr activated his stealth ability and walked in the shade of the various massive structures around him.

’If I still can’t find water and food even after searching these huts... I might have no other choice but to roast the meat of these giants and drink their blood... Sigh...’
