The Villain Reborn as Game's Final Boss - Chapter 203: In the Wild [2]
Chroma surely was a good ride.
At first I had thought of bringing him to the academy as a backup fighter for my safety, but seeing its size and there being no way to hide it, I scrapped that plan.
But—
The hydra, seemingly understanding my worries, told me through its connection with me that I could bring it along with me after it advances to the Diamond core.
Now, how would the creature be able to achieve that?
I didn’t know.
But I knew that the hydra wouldn’t lie to me, so taking into consideration its loyalty towards me, I had decided to assume that I could bring Chroma along with me in the future.
Some of my plans were based on those assumptions... So I just hoped that they would soon turn into reality.
But for that to happen, I would have to advance my rank too.
Sigh.
Using my mana sense, I had mapped out the general location of all the gold cores in my vicinity.
We had come quite far away from the mine, so the rank of the monsters had increased, as Arthur hadn’t hunted in this area.
As for what type of monsters lived in Azuna...
There was no specific species of monsters here.
Monsters weren’t like normal animals on Earth.
Here each one of them had evolved using the mana in nature, so their physical bodies had adapted to their surroundings.
Though the monsters had a slight resemblance to animals on Earth... The similarity was too little to take into consideration.
A monster might look like a wolf, but in reality it was a mix of a wolf and some other animals, making it a monster in the truest sense.
There were no fixed records about the monsters that inhabited Jutan, as with every evolution, the physical bodies of the monsters evolved too.
Then there were deviations among the same species, as some monsters evolved their bodies in a completely unique direction unlike anything seen before.
Though reputed institutes like Namda still kept records of all monsters that had been discovered on the planet, along with their strengths, physical descriptions, evolution derivations, and the weaknesses using which they could be easily killed.
At higher ranks, monsters too are able to use different Affinities, like a monster born in water being more prone to developing a water affinity.
Though that wasn’t a rule, as many had witnessed monsters in water having fire affinity, something that should have been least expected in a creature of water. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Still... Using the opposite element could indeed do a great deal of harm to monsters, but—
Not everyone was able to use a spell even among the higher ranks.
Learning a spell required one to study it, and for that a huge amount of time had to be invested in the process.
People in positions of power often had many important tasks and obligations to fulfil, resulting in them being unable to give themselves enough time to master the spells readily available to them.
"Graahhh!"
A loud roar made me look towards the north, where I could sense a humongous reptile monster charging in my direction.
As I sensed it on a deeper level, I could feel its physical outline being similar to a... turtle?
I found the turtle to have the least survival instincts.
I mean... During my hunt I was going to distance myself from Chroma, so that monsters in the Gold rank wouldn’t fear Chroma’s presence, as the hydra was at Platinum 3.
Sigh.
The turtle should have sensed the threat posed by Chroma to its life, but still decided to charge in my direction.
Well... It wasn’t like I was doubting its intelligence.
On the contrary, I wondered if the monster even had a brain in its head or was just operating on pure instincts.
Ah!
As I was using mana sense to scan my surroundings, my attention soon turned to a weak mana signature near me...
Just below me.
I looked down from Chroma’s huge body to see an egg below us... Maybe a group of eggs, as there were around ten of them, kept safely by the side of a huge tree near which we were currently standing.
Well... Chroma was.
Maybe... The turtle assumed that Chroma was here to eat those eggs... And looking at Chroma’s heads, except Black—All of them were indeed looking at the eggs, but—
They didn’t seem to have an appetite to eat them.
But... Who would explain that to the turtle that was charging at us?
It was now some hundred metres away from us, with the distance being reduced with every passing second.
Though I could have asked Chroma to retreat from the place so as to clear the misunderstanding...
I did nothing of the sort.
Taking out my sword from the storage space, I jumped down from the hydra before moving in the direction of the eggs, and—
Slowly pierced my sword through one of the eggs...
Then another—
And soon all ten of the monster’s eggs were reduced to mere shells by the sword in my hand.
"GRAAHHH!"
The turtle, seeing my act, gave another roar, though this one felt more intense than before.
It shouldn’t have charged at me even after seeing that we meant no harm to its eggs.
Now that the creature had taken the decision to battle us... I just removed all distractions from its sight.
We could now have a nice fight...
Swoosh!
Without waiting for the turtle to approach me, I charged towards it, and within seconds my body was already beside the massive frame of the monster, which was around eight feet in pure height.
Stomping my foot on the ground, I jumped into the air before bringing down my sword on the turtle’s strongest part.
Clang!
Hm?
Though I had infused mana into my muscles, the turtle’s hard shell made my sword bounce back.
Well... I just wanted to test it out.
Jumping back, I retreated a few steps as the turtle stopped its aimless charging, seeing that its enemy was now before its eyes.
Though I could feel a slight sense of wariness in its eyes, as even without being damaged, the turtle might have felt the power behind my strike.
Gold 2...
The fight still wasn’t fair—
For the monster, that is.
