Arthur stepped out of the room with a smile on his face, but it dimmed the moment his eyes met mine.

"Did you hear?"

"Everything."

It was Julien who answered in my place.

"Haa... Kael—"

"It’s alright."

I assured Arthur before he could start consoling me in any way.

I wasn’t mad at what Sophie thought about me.

And why would I be?

The girl was just the daughter of a man who had pledged his allegiance to me. That was the end of the relation between the two of us—nothing more than that.

So there was no need for me to feel bad about the words of an individual who had no value in my eyes, except serving as a leash on Arthur.

Though even if she were someone of importance in D.X., things would have been the same.

I had a vision before me, and to achieve that, such petty things were just pebbles on the road ahead.

Trust...

Loyalty...

Love...

All of them were things that could be considered important for maintaining stability in an organization. After all, if your subordinates had no feeling of loyalty or trust for you, then the chances of them sacrificing their lives for you would be negligible.

So even though having such emotions in my subordinates to maintain their allegiance towards me was important... it wasn’t like the absence of these emotions would cause any significant damage to my goals.

It could reduce the efficiency of operations, but—

At the end of the day, if the soldiers are paid properly and are able to live a good life, they will have to fight for me to maintain their prosperity and happiness.

Most of the soldiers were considered criminals in the world, so working for me was the only way for them to survive.

Though there was a big loophole regarding the soldiers compromising D.X. if the authorities guaranteed them enough compensation for betraying me, but...

I had already devised a solution for that, and it would be enacted soon.

So if I couldn’t care less about the opinions of the soldiers working for me, then why would I care for the thoughts of a girl who was just a bargaining chip for me, and who had already fulfilled her use?

Arthur, seeing the firmness in my voice, decided to let go of the topic, though I could feel the sympathetic gaze from Julien as we walked to one of the corners of the hallway.

"How much time will it take? I mean, is the treatment long or—"

"An hour if her body is least reactive to the mana stone, or else the issue will be solved within minutes."

I interrupted Arthur to relieve him of any worries that might have begun to form in his mind.

Arthur was a logical person, but at this moment, I had a feeling that all of his logic and wisdom had been sealed somewhere, as all his questions were so illogical.

I mean... why would the time matter if his daughter was going to be cured in the end?

The girl had been plagued with mana poisoning for the entirety of her life, so even if the treatment took a year... what difference would it make?

In the end, she was going to be cured.

"A father’s worry."

Julien, seemingly sensing my thoughts, whispered in my ear.

I felt a slight tickling sensation due to his hot breath, though the guy retreated before I could lecture him about it.

"Dad, you can come in."

The wait wasn’t long, as Sophie’s voice came from within the room.

Glancing at me, Arthur quickly headed to open the door, as both Julien and I followed along.

Just as I stepped in and turned to my right, my gaze froze for a second longer than necessary.

Though I wasn’t one to blame, as Sophie sat on the bed wearing clothes that gave easy access to her belly—maybe a little too well.

When I had asked her to change, I thought she would change into some shirt that was cropped at the end, like the ones that had been trending in the market recently, but—

"Is this okay?"

Sophie’s question made me look into her eyes as I sorted out the words in my mind.

"It’s enough."

What Sophie was currently wearing wasn’t a shirt but an undergarment that was somewhere between a sports bra and a regular one.

Though it wasn’t too revealing... It was revealing enough in its own right.

I glanced at Arthur to see his reaction, only to find him staring into my eyes.

"This was the only one that I had, as I never—"

"It’s alright. Let’s begin."

I interrupted her, as I knew what Sophie’s reasoning was.

Being burdened with mana poisoning made one’s body so weak that doing normal daily movements was a task in itself.

So it was justified that the girl had never bought any clothes that were trending in the market, as there was no need to.

If she wasn’t going to go out and couldn’t walk or live like other people, then there was no point in buying such clothes.

I didn’t waste any time, taking out the mana stone from my storage before walking towards the girl.

"There’s no need to sit, you can just lie down on the bed."

Sophie was at first a little hesitant, but then, looking at her father once, she quickly complied with my instructions as she made herself comfortable on the bed.

I moved closer to her, sitting on the edge of the bed. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Looking at the mana stone in my hand, which was roughly the size of a medium-sized pebble, I thought over the options available to me.

There were many methods by which a person could be cured of mana poisoning, given that a mana stone was used in the process.

So I was debating the exact method that I should use, but the debate didn’t last long, as I decided to go with the easiest one.
