Chapter 81: Getting to Hawkthorn

After the mission was Confirmed, They got on a carriage to Hawkthorne. As the carriage began going, Everyone turned to look at Jasmine who was sitting closest to Chase obviously.

Nervously she cleared her throat. She was a spirit so Chase just assumed she did it to signal that she was going to speak.

"I’m sorry if I offended anyone with my lack of communication. Ive actually been watching for a long time. I’ve been inside the head of

Chase ever since that incident where you all became a team. While I know a bit about all of you, nobody has a clue about me."

Chase turned to look at her with his eyebrow lifted up. "You sure?"

She turned to him. "Personality wise sure, but I need to tell you what I am."

"I am named Jasmine of the valoris family

You may not know of us, that is because we made a living of of being silent manufacturers of powerful weapons that could bind to the spirit of its wielder."

Chase was quite glad to hear this. At least he was from a powerful family, problem is since he can hardly remember them he wasn’t sure fate was kind to them.

"They are no longer with us."

She turned to Chase, who had tried to look surprised, but where he was from this trope was common.

"It was a long and thought out betrayal. I don’t know when I was created, just that I was put into your body."

Chase: "I actually recall memories that reflected the place of residence at the time.

My family lived in a nice place, more importantly, everything might come back to me eventually."

Damian squinted. "So to clarify, you’re like a spirit thingy right? Like a soul?"

Jasmine calmly pushed her hand into the floor and they watched her hand phase through. With their doubts quelled, She turned to Chase.

"Their is another reason I’m called a weapon, beyond what even you know. If Their is an enemy that can truly push us, I’ll show you."

"It’s kinda weird than none of us have to introduce ourselves, but hats off to you."

Andrew said, unsure of how to carry on.

Damian scooted next to Donnie who side eyed him. "Man, it’s really us commoners against the world. Everyone is from a noble household nowadays."

"Was it not just us two?" Andrew tilted his head. But Damian waved it off. "You’ve had your time. You highborns always will."

Just then a lightbulb went off in Donny’s head.

"Hey Chase, do you know anything about anywhere in the four kingdoms?"

Chase calmly shook his head while the three next to him almost palm theirs.

What he had learned was that all of the land that he saw and the adventures that he had been on so far have been in one kingdom.

Namely the Barolt kingdom. Kingdom of the swords. Outside of these kingdoms, patrols are far less common and if you aren’t with a bunch of combat trained professionals you’ll probably get killed by bandits.

It was already bad inside the kingdom. Chase couldn’t imagine outside of it. Elves, vampires and other monsters have their own form of kingdoms as well.

Their is also another place that sparked his interest. "Their is a place you shouldn’t find yourself in or we’ll surely never see you again."

Chase leaned in closer, eager to hear this information.

"The pale wastelands. 150 years ago, a great necromancer had found the burial sites of dragons. Using their bones, necromancy and demonic magic, he unleashed a hellish and undead army that required the might of the remaining four kingdoms to defeat."

Chase didn’t quite understand the magnitude of what he was saying "what did it cost?"

Donnie shook his head. "That doesn’t matter, though it was a lot. Their are monsters that even the strongest of adventurers don’t dare face in that place. Many risk it for the powerful artifacts that terrible necromancer had, most die. You’re certainly going to come out a different person."

Chase: "Or not at all."

Donny put a hand on his shoulder. "You’re getting it."

It took multiple hours, most of which was jasmine getting truly acquainted face to face.

Sometimes they would forget that she knew most of what Chase did and she would say exactly what they were going to say before they said it.

As they got off of the carriage, they were greeted by a nice looking gate. Two men in wolf pelts are outside of it, looking at them with hostility.

"State your reason for entry." One of the men calmly said. They were looking them up and down, probably already guessing his answer. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Chase was extremely tired, Damian was stretching, Andrew didn’t show any signs of fatigue and Jasmine showed even less. Guess being a spirit and not having a true physical body when you don’t want the drawbacks is quite nice.

Chase was so tired that the man was about to repeat his question with a bit more aggression before speaking. "We’re humble adventurers looking for work."

After checking their adventurer plates and realizing they were correct, one of the men stepped back. "One silver each. Pay the tithe or be denied entry."

At this point Chase was seriously considering his losses on if were to behead this unimportant spec of dirt, but Andrew seemed more tired than he let on and 5 silvers were quickly placed in his hands before he quickly and casually walked past the man.

With everyone else being tired as well, they pressed on.

Entering Hawkthorne was certainly an experience. Even the areas that seemed to be for poor people were well groomed.

This seemed like the entire town was middle class. Decent sized homes for everyone convenient in one area, but things obviously weren’t as decent as they seemed.

Why did everyone here seem so tense?

Chase looked to his side to see if her was imagining things but everyone else’s uncomfortable gazes spelled it out as well.
