"That was the last thing I heard her say," Liam concluded, his voice low in the already silent room. He continued,"The rest is history and I really cherished Shikera on behalf of her mother too."

"Except you aren’t talking about me, Lee," Natalia spoke up, drawing the attention of everyone in the room to herself.

"Nate..."

"I’m saying the truth, Liam." She turned to stare straight at Shikera,"You should be smart, right? Why would I leave my baby with a man like him who was already judging a foetus? With no one to protect her, would he not kill her if she falls sick and becomes a source of worry for him?!"

Natalia’s voice was strong and filled with undiluted rage, commanding authority from everyone in the room. Except Ethan of course.

With the room quiet again, he finally spoke up for the first time since Natalia entered, "And your point now is that you didn’t leave your daughter with Chairman Anderson and that Shikera is not your daughter?"

Natalia nodded, "As absurd and confusing that might sound, that is exactly what I am trying to say. Put yourselves in my shoes and imagine—"

A loud knock sounded on the door and Ruthlyn entered immediately. She looked from Ethan to Shikera, and finally to Natalia, before speaking up, "There is a Miss Anderson here..."

"Let her in. That is my daughter," Natalia directed.

Ruthlyn stood rooted to that same spot with confusion evident in her eyes and when she finally regained her composure and turned, the door was slowly pushed open from outside and a... Shikera stepped in.

If Ruthlyn had seen this person in a different place and time, she would not have thought this was not Shikera. Bowing to those in the room, she excused herself again and walked out.

"Who is this?" Noah asked, the first person to recover from the shock that he had fallen into when he saw the woman who looked exactly like Shikera.

"That’s is I and Liam’s daughter, Elizabeth Anderson. And also your younger sister," Natalia answered.

"What?!" Liam exclaimed.

"It’s just as you see it, Liam. I was sick when I escaped from you, but my daughter was also sick so I always worried about her. I took her with me to protect her from you so I don’t know where you got your own daughter from!" Natalia stated. She gestured at the new arrival to come closer to her, "Come and sit here, Betty."

The name resounded in Shikera’s head like a bell would, and all the events that had been confusing her for the past few days suddenly fell in place. This woman whom she had thought to be her mother was not her mother but the mother of this Elizabeth in front of her, and that was why the woman had addressed her as Betty when she saw her the other day at the shopping mall parking lot.

Shikera turned to her father for any sort of explanation for what was going on, but the man looked just as confused as she was.

"If you wanted to protect your daughter from him, why did you come back now?" Ethan asked.

Sighing, Natalia clasped her hand together with Elizabeth’s as she turned to look straight at Liam.

"I came because I needed his money. Betty has been sick from a very young age and I have expended all my money trying to take care of her. I will gladly feed my pride to the birds if it means that my daughter will be alright, so here I am. I brought her to meet her father but I didn’t expect to meet this kind of scene in here," she said.

Liam shook his head as if to clear the confusion mounting in there, "So you are saying now that this... Elizabeth is my daughter, right? And Shikera isn’t?"

"Don’t ask me this, Liam, for I am just as confused as you are since I know I only gave birth to one baby. But we can clear our doubts by carrying out a DNA test, can’t we?"

Liam stayed quiet for a while examining Elizabeth’s face which was in every way similar to Natalia’s, just like Shikera face was too, and he nodded.

"We will take the DNA test," he announced, adding, "And we will take it now. The earlier, the better."

"That will be great, Liam. Elizabeth, don’t just stay quiet and greet everyone."

The girl named Elizabeth looked around timidly, the only thing that seemed to be different from Shikera’s manner.

"Hi, I hope everyone is doing great," she greeted.

No one replied to her greeting except Liam who smiled gently to do that.

"I contacted the doctor for the DNA test and he is on his way. He will be here in a while so you all should feel at home," Ethan said out loud, causing Liam to nod in approval.

When Shikera saw that there seemed to be a break in this drama going on, she extricated herself from Noah’s embrace and shifted closer to Ethan.

"E—"

Just at that moment, Ethan stood to his feet and walked away from the couch to the executive chair. Shikera’s brows furrowed in perplexity at that action, as it looked like he was avoiding her.

However, she discarded all negative thoughts and walked over to him with a wry smile.

"Ethan..." she called, expecting that he would act in the usual manner he always did with her.

But much to her disappointment, Ethan simply answered,"Yes?"

"Uh..."

"I have to do something real quick, Shikera. You should sit with your...brother, maybe."

Shikera felt her jaws slack in disbelief, and she subconsciously moved closer to Ethan.

"You always make time for me, Ethan. Is the thing you are occupied with that important?" she asked.

"I know my priorities, Shikera, and I would not leave an important thing only to go for a less important one. You should excuse me now," His tone was final, leaving no room for excuses.
