Chapter 136: Miss Anderson Is Dead!

Shikera opened the door for Hazel and walked away from the door to allow the latter entry to the villa.

"The kitchen is perfectly alright but since you say you are not comfortable without doing your job, you can check again," she said in a low voice, the dizziness she was feeling making it hard for her to talk louder.

She trudged towards the stairway, shuffling her feet against the hard ground as she swayed from one side to another.

Her phone pinged and she raised it up to see a message from Cyprian. Reading it, she didn’t bother to reply for it felt like an heavy task to her tired body right now. She wondered how she had been able to drive home from Preston TV, without getting into an accident on the way.

"The kitchen is clean so I will go get groceries instead. Do you have anything you want me to get for you?"

She heard Hazel ask her from behind and she turned to her.

"I don’t need anything. But Esther complained about her favorite juice missing from the fridge so you should get that for her. I presume you know what it is so, excuse me please," she replied.

As she took another step towards the stairs, her phone rang and she picked it without looking at the caller ID.

"Hello."

"Kera! Are you alright?" She heard Cyprian’s worried voice. As usual, her friend was that one person who had an instinctual knowledge of whenever Shikera was sick.

"I am alright. Just a little bit tired from working late," she replied. This feeling could not be anything worse than fatigue, right? If it was worse, she should have puked blood by now.

"Okay then. I will be there in just two hours so wait for me."

Shikera hung up on the call and immediately, her hand went up to her mouth as she felt a series of cough coming. The liquid substance she felt on her palm while coughing, made Shikera realize that this dizziness was not what she thought it was. The dull ache in her belly from the morning, the acute chest pain, the dizziness and nausea; everything combined together to form a...

Slump!

Hazel turned, startled by the sudden loud sound behind her and her eyes widened when she saw Shikera lying on the ground.

"Miss Anderson!" She exclaimed, running towards her and shaking her body.

She got no reply and she carried Shikera’s head up to see a trail of blood flowing out the side of her mouth. Overwhelmed by a wave of fear, she scrambled away from the motionless body until she was almost at the door.

"I...I didn’t do anything! I only thought of it and...and I...I never did anything to her! I didn’t even touch her!" She screamed, the thought that someone would be able to hear her not even occuring to her for once.

"Oh...I have to save her! I need to..."

Regaining her composure, she stood to her feet and ran towards Shikera, trying to help her up.

She struggled for a minute until she had successfully raised Shikera to rest against the couch, when she placed her hand on her neck to feel her pulse.

"What?!" Hazel screamed, not feeling even the slightest movement beneath her finger. She imagined all possible scenarios that could be caused by this incident and only one sticked to her head.

’Miss Anderson is dead, and I am the only one left at home with her. My life is pretty worthless compared to hers, and that means I can be framed for her death..."

As her scared expression morphed into a thoughtful one, Hazel slowly stood up from Shikera’s body and ran out of the house.

"It’s alright," she murmured to herself, "I went shopping after talking with Miss Anderson, so I don’t know anything about what happened after I left."

DeLoach Corporation

Ethan locked the door with utmost difficulty, staggering back to the chair as he held his head tightly in his hands.

"Aaargh..." he groaned as the pounding in his head intensified. Memory flashes of a cabin on the sea, floated in and out of his mind as the ache increased.

"Fuck!"

He doubled over in pain, struggling to keep himself on the couch. He was thankful that that he has asked Raymond to leave earlier today and that he had told the secretaries that none of them were allowed to disturb him.

"Vincent!"

An unfamiliar voice echoed in his head and his eyes widened suddenly.

Vincent...that voice was not owned by any of his family members, both nuclear and extended. After all, they didn’t have a young girl in their family, right?

So who was this person that knew him well enough to address him as Vincent, with obvious familiarity.

Surprisingly, the pain in his head subsided and the first thing he whispered was,

"Eleanor..."

Shikera’s face popped up in his mind eye and feeling an unusual wave of uneasiness, he took out his phone to dial her number.

He got no answer at the first ring, second ring, third ring and fourth ring, and that was when he realized the urgency of the situation.

He walked to the table, picked up his coat and nosemask and wearing the both of them, he walked out of the office.

"Get Hazel on the phone, Ruth. Follow me, Enoch."

The secretaries were thrown in disarray as they scrambled to their feet to greet Ethan who didn’t even notice they were in the room.

Ruth could sense the apprehension from Ethan’s demeanor and she dumped the coffee she was holding on Ryu’s table, walking instead to Enoch.

"Did something happen, Enoch?" she asked.

"Don’t know, Honey. Contact Hazel while I call Raymond," Enoch replied.

None of the two noticed the wide eyes reaction their colleagues gave to the more than familiar interaction which took place between the both of them, and neither did Ruthlyn notice that Enoch had just called her ’honey’.
