Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy - Chapter 209: "Be smug all your want. It won’t last long,"
The air was heavy with tension as they approached a grand set of double doors leading to the chambers King Luo was residing in.
The tension between them was palpable as they both struggled to maintain a façade of civility. King Luo’s piercing gaze never wavered as he broke the silence. "Do you understand?" he said his voice filled with a mix of authority and disdain.
Yunning’s heart skipped a beat as his words struck her like a hammer to her chest. She bit her lip, fighting against the surge of anger and desperation welling up within her. She would rather die than apologise to Eling. The very thought felt like a betrayal of everything she held dear. Her love for King Luo, her pride, her sense of self-worth, all would be diminished by lowering herself to apologise when she did nothing but speak the truth.
She struggled to maintain the pleasant facade she wore, her eyes clouded with a mix of anger and desperation. How could King Luo ask such a thing? How could he expect her to swallow her pride and grovel before Eling, the one who had stolen her rightful place by his side?
A surge of resentment coursed through Yunning’s veins, but she masked it with a tight-lipped smile. "Of course, your majesty," she replied, her voice laced with a forced sweetness that betrayed her inner turmoil.
As Yunning they slowly approached the double doors, a dangerous urge began to take root within her. The urge to retrieve the vial of love potion from her bag and watch King Luo once again fall madly in love with her became overpowering. The prospect of him fawning over her, seemed like the ultimate victory against Eling. In her mind it was within her right to get what belonged to her back in her grasp.
King Luo felt her gaze boring into his back and turn around his eyes flashing with a twinge of anger. "You can leave," he said his voice tinged with an undercurrent of rage.
"I... I would like to apologise to him," she stammered her desperation slowly seeping through. Just one sip, just a taste, and she would watch as his eyes filled with adoration for her. The thought both thrilled and terrified her.
However, just as Yunning’s hand brushed against the vial hidden within her bag, a familiar voice broke through the haze of her thoughts. "Its a fine morning to chit chat with exs, isnt it?" it called out, feminine and sweet.
"Did I disturb something," Jolie exclaimed cheerfully, her eyes twinkling mischievously as she walked past them.
Yunning’s expression twisted into one of forced civility. She despised Jolie for interrupting their conversation. Still, she managed to maintain her composure and replied with a feigned warmth. "I don’t see how that is any of your business," she replied.
Jolie’s gaze moved between Yunning and King Luo, her curiosity evident. Jolie’s eyes twinkled with mischief as she assessed the faint traces on King Luo’s neck. Her smile grew bigger as she said, "It seems last night a lot of mosquitoes had a feast. Your dragon blood must be so enticing that they couldn’t resist. Maybe you should get a repellent or something."
King Luo subconsciouly touched his neck and the images of last night’s rendezvous flashed in his mind. He couldn’t wait to see Qie Xieling again and kiss his lips good morning. He wordlessly turned to leave leaving the two standing there. One wore a mischievous grin while the other a malicious expression.
Yunning’s resentment, once aimed solely at Eling, now shifted towards Jolie. Her provocative words further fueled her anger. Before she would have really thought those were really bug bites but after what she saw yesterday she was fully aware what it was.
"Be smug all your want. It won’t last long," Yunning said through gritted teeth, her voice dripping with malice .
Meanwhile King Luo’s heart pounded in his chest as he entered his chambers, eager to reunite with Qie Xieling. He imagined him sleeping on the bed with that weird sleeping posture of his and the confusion on his face when he wakes up.
With each unhurried stride, he replayed the memories of their passionate night together, the intoxicating connection they shared in the steaming pool of water. The touch of Qie Xieling’s warm skin under his palm still lingered igniting the desire in his heart.
However, a subtle uneaseness crept over him, as if an invisible disturbance tainted the air. His keen dragon instincts stirred within him, warning him of an intruder’s presence, yet no scent or trace lingered to confirm his suspicions.
Fearing the worst, he quickened his pace, his anticipation turning into dread. Approaching the bed, his eyes swept the room, searching for any sign of Qie Xieling. To his dismay, his lover was conspicuously absent, leaving no evidence of a struggle.
Confusion and heartbreak clashed within him, prompting thoughts that perhaps Qie Xieling had willingly chosen to leave. But such a notion defied the intensity of their passion last night, casting doubt upon King Luo’s understanding of the situation.
A surge of desperation consumed him, his fierce draconian nature emerging. With wild determination, he scoured every corner of the chamber, his eyes brimming with an intensity born from love and obsession. Doors were pulled open, furniture overturned, as he unraveled the room in a frenzy, desperately seeking any clue to Qie Xieling’s whereabouts.
As the seconds dragged on, panic gripped King Luo. Drenched in a mixture of fear and anger, he tried to comprehend the possibility of Qie Xieling betraying him just like Eling. Memories of their tender moments, whispered promises, and shared dreams flooded his mind. The weight of uncertainty bore down upon him, threatening to fracture his regal composure.
In the midst of the chaos, King Luo’s mind raced, grappling with a cascade of emotions. Questions tumbled through his thoughts, each competing for his attention. Why would Qie Xeling leave after the promises he made last night? Doubt gnawed at the edges of his sanity as he wrestled with the bewildering truth unfolding before him.
Beneath it all, hidden in the depths of King Luo’s tormented soul, a sliver of hope still flickered. Jolie was still here. If anyone could answer his questions it would be her.
