Chapter 47: Night Attack

Naia had no idea what was happening in her space at this time. She was busy watching Teens vs Chickens.

"AHHHH!" A scream echoed amidst the pristine rural scenery.

The source was none other than her cousin Hans, being pecked to death by Grandma’s rooster. "Is this what they call a henpecked man?"

Grandma had a separate enclosure for the birds. When the twins were here, they would help out with them. Somehow, for some reason, Hans seemed to have provoked the rooster, a.k.a. Big C.

"Help! Help!"

Rather than help, his precious twin sister only gagged and laughed her heart out! "HAHAHAHHHA!" She was laughing so hard that she gasped for air.

After laughing, while laughing, she took out her phone from her pocket to capture videos of him. "HAHAHHA! Come, sacrifice yourself for some money! HAHAHA!"

Naia found this instinct of locals quite amusing. They might not even be able to fight monsters half their size, but they could capture things with their phones even before they realized it.

Whenever anything exciting was happening, people’s instincts were to pull out their phones and record.

Grandma Linda sighed and walked over, with an expression of resignation on her face. "What did you do this time?" she asked, appearing behind them with a broom to swing away the hostile chicken.

Hans flushed, eyes brimming with tears. He was quite the tall, lanky, kid, and he looked like a giant puppy wronged right now.

"I...I was just trying to get some eggs. I just did it as usual. I tossed feed and let the chickens out of the coop! While he was distracted, I went to get the eggs!"

"Did you meet its eye?"

"..."

Linlin cackled at the side. "You’re an idiot! How many times has it been?"

Hans wasn’t the bravest person and knew that the chicken could cause some threat. Unconsiciously, his eyes would guardedly look for it (to avoid it).

But when the rooster saw him in the territory, Hans inadvertently met the rooster’s eyes. The bird saw it as the challenge of a rival instead, and it immediately attacked him!

Meanwhile, Linlin was still cackling a chicken, the camera shaking.

"Cousin! Look at her! So unlady-like!" Hans screamed when he saw Naia approaching. "No trace of gentleness at all!"

Linlin’s laughter paused, and her eyes sharpened as she glared at him. By habit, she raised her hand and created a little fist. The petite girl then ran after her tall brother.

Tsk, tsk. Obviously, Linlin ’trained’ this meek brother of hers a lot, yet he still gets bullied at school.

Speaking of this, it seemed like Linlin was more or less unaware that Hans had been bullied in school. He hid it well, feeling embarrassed, and the bullies so happened to never hit his face. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

When Naia mentioned what she had seen, not only did Linlin slap the back of his head, she even upped her bullying of him. For example, like now.

Her rationale was to help her brother ’build character’.

Grandma wasn’t the type to micromanage so other than giving some advice here and there, she let the younger generation do their own thing. Seeing the whole ’Chicken vs Teen’ battle at the side, she only smiled and continued handling her farm

Naia stared at everyone’s carefree attitudes with warm eyes and an overflowing heart.

She truly, truly hoped that the apocalypse wouldn’t happen in this timeline.

However, in the end, her intuition told her that it was bound to happen anyway.

...

The first full day she had with family—and the end of her fourth day in this world—was very fulfilling.

It was filling for the mind, as she learned a lot, filling for the heart, as she felt familial love from all over, and....filling to the stomach, which she’d argue was most important of all!

Unexpectedly, that night would be a restless one.

At midnight, half a dozen masked men sneaked into the village. They moved quietly and quickly, finding the quaint house at the edge of the village.

With obvious expertise, one of them opened the front door, slowly opening it up, while another pair opened the back door.

The lights were turned off, so they opened a small flashlight. It was bright enough to see the obstacles, but not bring enough to wake someone up, even if they were in the same room.

They then threw in some sleeping scent into the rooms while wearing gas masks on their own faces. They waited a few minutes before they started looking around the house, checking each surface, patting the walls, and even the ceilings.

One would think they were just thieves, quietly taking stuff and quietly going away. For a while, it was like this. The group rummaged through the house, found nothing, turned on the lights and rummaged again, still nothing.

They were shifting through so many things that it naturally woke up the people inside. However, when they woke up, they were already bound!

"Wha—"

Except for Naia, who was staring at them, the rest’s eyes were wide with fear and trepidation. The thieves didn’t do anything at first; they just checked the beds and every surface in the bedrooms as well.

The victims’ eyes were brimmed with tears, their yells muffled through the fabric. Hans was most active, shaking his head, wiggling his body, and the fabric covering his mouth did loosen up—for a few seconds anyway.

"HELP! HELP US!" he screamed, hoping neighbors could hear them, at least. "HELP!!!"

But, for now, no one will come.

The houses here were separated by at least a hundred meters. They were already out of earshot from their neighbors, let alone others.

Still, it was painful to the ears,

Slap!

One of the thieves slapped Hans, promptly taking a rag and placing it on his mouth. Next, he went to do the same to the girl nearby.

Except he was met with sharp emerald eyes that made his blood turn cold!
