Planet Vs Aliens: Space User Saves the World
Chapter 36: Creating Pariahs (Part 2)
Speaking of which, according to the witnesses, these two women had should also be involved with that girl’s hard life.
"While the murder investigation is indeed still under investigation, Houser Cerra will definitely be punished for selling Miss Nadia, ultimately causing her death."
"Huh? What’s this got to do with her?" Ginna gasped. "I knew it! How unlucky!"
They were only questioned about Houser’s schedule and what they knew about his connections. They were purposely vague about the locations, lest they accidentally make the situation worse.
Because the case with the late Miss Nadia was already certain, the officers hadn’t asked much about her, so these two women had no idea there was a connection at all.
Seeing them react like this, however, made the policemen feel even worse for the poor woman who had been murdered.
What kind of bad luck to be born in a family like this?
Soon, the car carrying Houser and the lawyer left. The reporters were left behind, and they turned around to see the mother and daughter pair acting pitifully. Even if they didn’t know who they were (a few actually did), just a few searches would give them their identities.
More interestingly, it seemed like a video from the arrest was spreading out, so a number of people had stepped forward to reveal stories about this family. Each of them was juicy!
The reporters looked at the women with greedy interest.
Luke sneered and stepped away from the women to give space to the reporters. The sharp-nosed reporters surrounded the two, and some even met Luke’s eyes. Luke nodded, giving a signal that they could ask whatever they wanted to ask. As long as there was no physical contact, this was fine for a while. They might even glean some clues.
These two were definitely not under the police’s protection, and the reporters acted like fish underwater.
"I heard that the murder indictment is practically guaranteed. Do you have any plans on how you’d handle your husband’s incarceration?"
"Do you have anything to say to the victim?"
"Did you know anything about his plans?"
"What is the property he exchanged his own daughter for?"
"Is it worth it?"
A barrage of questions was thrown in, overwhelming the women. Ginna’s face looked hideous in anger, while Carina looked pitiful as if she were being harassed.
Carina was smarter than Ginna and kept her cool, despite her own high blood pressure spiking. Ginna, on the other hand, could not hold her face, especially when Houser’s ex-wife was brought out.
"Is it true that you killed the first wife?"
"That has nothing to do with me!" Ginna said, voice octave taking a step higher. She had been spoiled by Houser, and her temperament never matured.
It could be said that Houser married her because she was an idiot.
His daughter, on the other hand, knew how to use her beauty and femininity well, hooking a few men to follow her whims. For example, some of the reporters who had been rather aggressive in his questioning softened up when his eyes met hers.
Some female reporters saw Carina appearing pitiful and sneered, throwing even more striking questions.
"Miss Carina. According to our investigation, you are the schoolmate of the victim, Nadia, your half-sister, and that you have not made school life easy for her. Do you have a comment on this?"
"What? I...I have never done that!" She said, voice soft. "You...you can ask my schoolmates. None of them would say I have harmed my sister at school!"
Yeah, because she encouraged others to do so, getting the results she wanted while keeping a clean image.
"Have you ever questioned your mother why you and Miss Nadia are so close in age? Isn’t it the case of a husband killing the wife—and now, the daughter—to make way for the mistress?"
Ginna practically jumped at the reporter. "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!"
This was only the beginning. Even if the two women escaped the reporters, the gossip and looks directed at them would not stop anytime soon.
...
The public ate this issue up, and by the next day, this was already shared millions of times. The family received none of this money from the exposure, and all they could be were to become social pariahs.
[Wow! Such Drama! Someone write a script!]
[Isn’t this type of script seen so many times already? ...and I never get tired of it!]
[Am I the only one who feels super bad for the dead daughter? Gosh!]
[I am a classmate of those two. I can attest that the older daughter is indeed treated as a maid. Don’t think she’s so gentle and such, but the way she can order the other girl around is definitely not of sisters.]
[I have a cousin just like this! I bet she’s the kind to subtly suggest to her suitors that making the dead girl suffer would make her happy!]
[The older woman couldn’t even hide her hideous expressions! Doesn’t she know her botox would look weird if she keeps it like that?]
It went so viral that even the ’pitiful’ Naia—who had just discovered the joy of doom scrolling and was chewing some sunflower seeds—saw the posts. There were even memes and gags related to it.
There were even some skits that copied the mother-and-daughter, doing even more exaggerated motions and sarcastic commentaries. It was hilarious.
It had been less than a day. The internet is amazing.
Then there was someone who made a summary of the story, including the scandals of the previous generation, into a nice five-minute video compilation. There were even some witness accounts, interviews of schoolmates, and neighbors.
Naia grinned and downloaded the video after paying the original poster. She reposted it, unblurred, with a fake account. She even spent tens of thousands of danas for advertisements to ’spread the word’.
Heck, she even paid for subtitles so it could be spread all over the world.
Seeing her post getting more and more views and shares, despite spending much less than the apocalypse advertisement, she smiled. This was definitely money well-spent!
