Zombie Girls Revival System-Chapter 170: Evelise’s 3rd Dead - .
Sid finally finished cleaning up at the water pump. The cold water had cleared the last of the chemical fog, leaving him feeling surprisingly energized. The shock of the evening had passed, replaced by a keen anticipation for sleep and the promised revelations of Evelise's past.
He stripped off his soiled clothes and put on the surprisingly cozy sleeping wear he had recently crafted—soft, breathable fabric salvaged from old curtains. He padded back into the quiet living room and lay down on his makeshift mattress, feeling less like a desperate survivor and more like a boy settling down for an exciting night of gaming.
He smiled, thinking about Evelise. The chaotic events of the day had stripped away another layer of her strict, cold facade. Where she had once been rigid, shouting, and ready to physically attack him for proximity, she was now clinging to him— physically, chemically, and emotionally while desperately trying to mask it with rage. He felt the reality of her blooming self, a stark contrast to the Perfect Human shell.
"She's working a miracle for me," he thought, recalling Evelise's panicked confession. "A cure that advanced surgeons couldn't manage. I need to know how she does it."
He reflected on their dynamic. She's changed. The wall is cracking.
"You know, Evelise," he murmured to the darkness, picturing her face, "at first, you'd shout and lash out if I got within five feet. Now... you're the one pulling me close. You try to hide it, but I feel it."
He knew she was slowly but surely magnetting herself to him, her true, trusting self emerging.
"I need to know everything now. Her healing gift. Why the Mayor wants her. The full story."
The answers, he knew, were waiting in the quiet dark. With a final, excited sigh, Sid closed his eyes, allowing the weariness of the long, chaotic day to finally claim him.
"Whew, time to freaking sleep!"
Consciousness dissolved into familiar darkness, and then, his ethereal form, a shimmering silhouette like a shadow was pulled into the metaphysical space. Before him floated the tombstones, glowing faintly, carved with runes that shimmered like starlight against the void.
This strange, liminal space was no longer alien; it felt like a second home. He no longer felt the confusion and fear of the first two visits; now, he welcomed the silence and the clear, structured path it offered.
"HELLO TOMBSTONES!"
The first two tombstones shone with the muted white light of accomplishment:
[Dead Chapter I — Cleared]
[Dead Chapter 2 — Cleared]
Next to them, the third, newest tombstone pulsed with a vivid, undeniable green light. Sid nodded to himself, the understanding of the system's narrative structure clicking into place.
"Well, the System knows how to give a proper television schedule," Sid muttered to the silent void. "They're not just random memories; they're strategically ordered to keep me coming back. It's a perfect cliffhanger structure."
He paused, a wry smile touching his shadow-lips. "A cliffhanger that makes me want to come back here and... watch the next episode."
Then, a flicker of self awareness hit him, hot and sharp. He had to suppress a laugh. He sounded like a massive pervert.
"I just said I'm addicted to sex with Evelise because the only way to access this space is doing 'night time' with her."
Sid quickly corrected his own thought. "No, no, no… It's not the sex. It's the Dead Chapter completion. I just want to understand my first zombie girl. I need to know the origin story."
Without dwelling on the semantics, Sid approached the glowing green marker. He reached out a phantom hand and touched the cold, rune carved stone. The energy surged, and the void rushed in, vacuuming him toward the core of the Dead Chapter 3.
Sid awoke with a familiar, sickening jolt, the disorientation far worse than before. This time, however, he forced himself past the immediate panic. His first instinct was clinical: locate self, analyze environment.
He didn't check the surroundings; he checked the vessel. He quickly flexed his hands— strong, male, and scarred then reached up to feel his face. His skin was rougher, his features sharper than his own.
"No, not again!" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
To his horror, he was occupying the same body: the servant whom Evelise's mother was having the scandalous nightly affair with. Sid inwardly screamed, the betrayal of the System's choice cutting deep.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Sid screamed in his mind. "Why this guy again?! Why keep forcing me back into this OLD FART??? I swear, if this memory is about.. GAH!!!"
A sharp, collective intake of breath from the room made him freeze. His inner scream had clearly not remained internal. He had actually yelled aloud. He quickly masked the sound with a forced cough and bowed his head.
"Forgive me, my Lords and Lady. A sudden cramp."
When he looked up, the reality of the scene hit him with devastating clarity. He was standing in the center of an enormous, opulent receiving room— all gilded cornices, polished marble floors, and heavy velvet drapery. This was unmistakably the Mayor's mansion.
Facing him were the protagonists of the previous chapters:
Standing closest to him were the familiar, desperate faces of Evelise's parents. Evelise's mother, her face now bearing distinct wrinkles around her eyes and mouth, looked frantic. This was a clear time leap; years had passed since the second chapter.
Beside her stood Evelise's father. Sid immediately recognized the same physical traits as his daughter— a tall, slender man with a lean frame and the unmistakable white rabbit ears and tail of the humanimal variant.
And then there was the Mayor… Sid's hands balled into fists, his jaw locking so hard his teeth ached.
"That smug, fat bastard…!"
He shouted in his mind. The bastard sat on an ornate, high backed chair, his face a study in impatient, greasy power. Evelise's mother immediately stepped toward Sid, her hands fluttering anxiously. Her eyes were wide, the same look of frantic urgency Sid remembered from the start of the previous memory.
"Did you find her? Tell us, did you find Evelise? Quickly!"
She demanded, her voice a strained whisper barely audible over the silence of the room.
"What did she say?"
Sid, completely stunned by the direct question, simply stared.
"Why are they asking me? Do they think this servant is her confidante?"
He didn't answer, still processing what is happening. Evelise's father shot Sid a look of pure, subtle rage, shaking his head and signaling desperately with his eyes:
"Answer the question, idiot! Where is our daughter?"
The silence was heavy, and the Mayor's scrutiny was a palpable weight. He cleared his throat— a sound like stones grinding together. It was a signal that his patience was exhausted,
"Well?"
The Mayor finally drawled, his voice thick with building annoyance.
"The clock is ticking, Humanimals. My patience is not endless."
The mother leaned in closer to Sid. "Please! Tell us she's here! The Mayor is waiting!"
"Agh!" Sid realized the situation. "Evelise must have snuck out again, or, more likely, she was refusing to participate in whatever grand performance was about to take place in this gilded cage!"
The Mayor leaned forward in his chair, his jeweled rings glinting as though eager to witness someone's misery.
"I believe we have waited long enough. If the girl refuses her duty—"
Evelise's parents snapped around instantly, panic flooding their faces as they stumbled over each other's words.
"Your Honor, she is merely gathering her composure! A young Lady of her refinement requires privacy—"
The Mayor lifted a single hand. The gesture was small, but it cut their voices as sharply as a blade. His expression darkened.
"I am tired of waiting for this so called miracle to grace us with her presence. If she is not here in the next sixty seconds, the arrangement is off, and the penalties will be severe."
He paused long enough to let his gaze settle on them with cruel satisfaction.
"You understand what will happen to all the humanimals, do you not?"
Evelise's parents blanched, turning so pale they looked almost sick. Their mouths opened, but no sound came. The threat had stolen even their ability to beg.
And then—
The massive carved doors at the far end of the hall swung open with a heavy, echoing thud. Every head whipped toward the sound.
"Introducing the Lady Evelise!" a booming voice announced.
Sid froze. Evelise's parents did too— fear momentarily replaced by a fragile, desperate hope.
And there she was.
Evelise… the years had refined her into something breathtaking. She was now clearly a legal adult, fully formed.
She was dressed in a gown the color of sunshine— a brilliant, blooming yellow that seemed to absorb and radiate the light. Her posture was perfect, her chin held high, radiating an undeniable aura of confidence and elegance. She moved with the slow, deliberate grace of a seasoned noble lady, walking toward the Mayor and her parents without the slightest flinch.
Yet, beneath the perfect mask, Sid could see the razor-thin tension in her shoulders. She was breathtaking, beautiful, and utterly unwilling.
"Holy Hell."
Sid thought, forgetting he was occupying another man's body. The only sound he could manage was a choked whisper.
