Zombie Bodyguard-Chapter 1574 - 1571: Con Artist? Master?
After securing his seat and seeing the ticket, Lin Tian realized that Miss had booked first-class seats. First-class seats are the standard ones, with second-class below them, and business and premium class above, whose level of luxury competes with that of airplane business class.
The fact that these two sisters chose to take a high-speed train was puzzling enough, but not booking business class was even more perplexing. Given Miss’s style, saving money isn’t done this way, and besides, it wouldn’t cost much more.
Xiao Manxue noticed Lin Tian continually glancing at the ticket, seemingly reading his thoughts, and said, "Don’t overthink it. If there were second-class tickets available, we’d be sitting there right now."
"Why?" Lin Tian asked instinctively.
"Lin Tian, why so many ’whys’? Can’t my sister and I be willful for once? Doing whatever we want and just going with our mood for a change." Xiao Manxuan interjected. The little girl rarely traveled far and was soon to live independently, feeling a bit like a bird being set free.
"Alright, you two be willful. It doesn’t matter to me where I sit," Lin Tian said helplessly, sighing internally, contemplating how women’s thoughts are unpredictable.
Putting the ticket away, Lin Tian observed the "neighbors" around him. It was a four-seat arrangement separated by an aisle, with the Xiao sisters on the right and Lin Tian sitting alone on the left. In front of the sisters were two middle-aged women, around forty, dressed fashionably and chatting nonstop as soon as they boarded the train.
Their conversation left Lin Tian speechless. They talked about how long each other’s husbands lasted, if they had any kidney problems, and then discussed various kidney tonics and supplements, without a hint of embarrassment. Lin Tian thought to himself, the saying that women are like wolves in their thirties and tigers in their forties is indeed true.
In front of him was a boy who looked like a student, probably eighteen or nineteen, with short hair, wearing a shirt, looking a bit sunny and handsome, with a warm, honest smile. As soon as he boarded, he immersed himself in a book.
At this moment, a man in his thirties walked down the aisle, short in stature with a thin, sharp face, small eyes, a pointed chin, and a middle parting hairstyle, looking like a wanderer or charlatan.
The "charlatan" uncle looked at the seats and sat next to the short-haired boy. But before sitting, he glanced around at the people nearby before taking his seat.
The middle-split man noticed Lin Tian and the Xiao sisters, looking surprised, though he didn’t look intently. This is the kind of person who’s at home among wanderers, observing people with wary eyes, maintaining some alertness.
Just as he sat down, a young man in his twenties approached, with hair longer than the middle-split man’s and a tattoo on his neck, wearing an expression that screamed: "I’m not to be messed with."
But to Lin Tian, he seemed the type to bluff more than he bites, tough on the outside, but backing down the moment he faced real resistance.
The young man was also looking at his ticket, then stopped in front of the short-haired boy. However, he spoke to the middle-split man, saying, "Uncle, this is my seat. Didn’t you bring your glasses? Don’t you know your own seat number?"
His words were quite sharp, clearly accustomed to arrogance, yet surprisingly, the middle-split man remained unfazed, raising his small eyes to look at the young man, "Young man, when traveling, be courteous, peace brings wealth, having more friends opens more paths."
"Cut the crap, I sang karaoke all night and I’m exhausted. Just give me my seat!" the young man replied grumpily, showing no respect to the middle-split man.
Nearby, one of the middle-aged women couldn’t help but interject, "Young man, there are empty seats up front, why not sit there and avoid a quarrel over a seat."
"I like sitting here, who are you to tell me otherwise?" The young man glared at the two women impatiently. They shook their heads and said no more.
Realistically, if that seat were his, it wouldn’t be excessive to ask for it back. Yet, his tone was entirely confrontational.
"Alright, you claim the seat is yours, let me see your ticket," the middle-split man responded calmly, still not upset.
The young man held his ticket up to the middle-split man, nearly poking it into his face, "Open those little eyes and look carefully."
The middle-split man glanced at the ticket, his eyes showing a curious expression, though he said nothing and actually stood up, moving to sit a row in front, where there were unoccupied seats in the first class.
After driving the middle-split man away, Lin Tian thought the young man would settle down, but to his surprise, he demanded the short-haired boy move too, saying, "Kid, you also move to the front. One seat isn’t enough for me to sleep lying down."
"Young man, this is too much. You can’t claim two seats with one ticket. This young man paid for his seat. You have no right to make him leave," one of the fashionably dressed middle-aged women interjected again, indignant, defending the boy.
"That’s how I like it, none of your business," the young man replied rudely.
"Hey, if you keep that up, I’m calling the train police..." The fashionable women, who likely also frequented square dances, were not easily intimidated in return.
"No, no, ladies, please don’t call the police..." The short-haired boy stood up, urging quickly, "It’s just a seat, no need for such measures, I’ll move."
After saying so, he began gathering his things. The young man, smugly satisfied, said, "See, he knows what’s good for him. Not your place to interfere."
The fashionably dressed woman was quite upset, scolding the short-haired boy, "Young man, being too honest will cost you."
The boy smiled kindly, saying, "It’s no big deal to take a small hit, as long as everyone gets along peacefully."
Lin Tian glanced at the boy in surprise, realizing that he said this without any resentment. Was there really someone so agreeable in the world? This small high-speed train truly displayed a slice of life’s varied dramas.
The young man sprawled across the two seats, acting as though no one else existed, while the short-haired boy moved to the front row, sitting with the middle-split man.
The middle-split man, with his small eyes, examined the boy, smiling, "Young man, good attitude. We sat together before, we should seize our connection. How about I read your palm?"
This slim-faced man with small eyes, when smiling, looked every bit like a wanderer or fortune teller. Lin Tian found it amusing, wondering if this man planned to trick the obliging young boy.
The boy quickly waved his hand, declining, "No need, no need to trouble you, Uncle."
The young man, who’d been lying down, sat up at the mention of palm reading, chuckling maliciously, "Oh, so you’re a wandering fortune teller. Trying to scam the honest kid, huh?"
The middle-split man didn’t even acknowledge him, simply saying to the young boy, "Young man, don’t worry, I’ll just read your palm for connection, no charge."
"Well..." The young boy felt that declining might hurt the man’s pride and hesitantly agreed, "Alright."
The young man cut in, "Let’s see how you plan to trick him."
The previous commotion had already drawn some interest, and even more so now with palm reading. People around stood up out of curiosity to watch this "fortune-telling expert," while Lin Tian and the Xiao sisters found the unfolding scene quite amusing.
