Chapter 1001: The Army Descends! Ming Jian's Strongest Eruption!! (2)
Rumble~ Aftershocks of the sword qi impacted the continent, shattering more than a hundred million li of land into countless fragments. Untold numbers of living beings perished.
"Quick, flee!"
"Run!" The multitude of cultivators hiding under the array’s protection immediately fled in panic under the leadership of several Astral Monarchs, desperately escaping to other areas shielded by defense arrays.
However, Wu Yuan couldn't be bothered to slaughter these weak lifeforms deliberately. There was little meaning in it.
And so, starting from the edge of the Greenridge Continent's void, Wu Yuan began to dismantle the array bases one by one.
Previously, in the Sacred Flame Ravine, Sovereign Qing Ling dismantled some array barriers laid down by Sovereign Zhen Guang. Wu Yuan was now doing the same thing.
But while Wu Yuan's strength far surpassed Sovereign Qing Ling's, the Greenridge Continent’s barriers had been established over eons, making them harder to dismantle.
At my current rate, searching for the array bases one by one, it would take several years to completely breach the Greenridge Continent. Wu Yuan made a rough estimate. Breaching the stronghold of a major faction in several years wasn’t slow at all.
Time flowed on.
The six Sovereigns of the Greenridge Immortal World exerted all their might, with the three body refiner Sovereigns attempting to attack under the enhancement of the domains, yet they were easily crushed by Wu Yuan.
The thousands of Astral Monarchs who had originally been hiding all over the continent, along with a large number of Archimmortals and Archdeities, fled in terror at top speed into the core hall complex at the heart of the continent.
The scene these Astral Monarchs witnessed was something they would undoubtedly remember for the rest of their lives – a single man, overpowering the entire Greenridge Immortal World, beating the six Sovereigns to the point where they dared not show their faces, breaching one array base after another.
"Ming Jian!"
"So powerful."
"Could he truly have a chance of breaching the Greenridge Immortal World’s defenses?" Sovereign Bei You, Sovereign Heng Yang, and Sovereign Zhen Guang watched the projection in the Taiyuan Voidrealm, all utterly shocked.
When Wu Yuan slew Sovereign Qing Ling, his surge of power had been so swift that they hadn’t been able to discern the details. Now, however, it was unmistakably clear that his strength wasn’t due to some hidden treasure but stemmed entirely from his own abilities.
...
"This?"
"At this rate, the Greenridge Immortal World will eventually be breached; it's only a matter of time." In the Immortal Court Voidrealm, Sovereign Voltari, Sovereign Shi Qing and the others watching the battle also held their breath as they looked on.
From time to time, they glanced towards Overlord Gu Nian. He stood at the end of the temple with a cold expression, simply staring at the light screen without a word.
Sovereign Voltari, Sovereign Sha Fan, and the others dared not open their mouths to offer their opinions.
But unbeknownst to them, in the Overlord Hall of the Immortal Court's Ling Jiang Saintdom headquarters, a fierce debate was erupting.
The avatars of a full six Overlords had gathered here, and the one who had called this meeting was none other than Overlord Gu Nian.
A massive light screen projection filled the hall, displaying the scene of Wu Yuan battling the six Sovereigns of the Greenridge Immortal World.
"Everyone, this is the situation," Overlord Gu Nian said in a low voice. "With Ming Jian's strength, he won't be able to break through the Greenridge Immortal World’s defenses in a short time.
“My suggestion is to mobilize five late-stage Sovereign legions and send them to the Greenridge Macrocosm.
“Once they arrive, Ming Jian won't be able to escape instantly, bound by the arrays of the Greenridge continent. At that time, with five legions attacking together, we can easily kill Ming Jian and thus rescue the Greenridge Immortal World." Overlord Gu Nian said solemnly.
He was indeed burning with rage. Therefore, he had been closely observing the battle at the Greenridge continent. Upon realizing that Sovereign Hai Xuan and the others could hold out for quite some time, he immediately convened an Overlord Council.
"I disagree with sending our forces to the Greenridge Macrocosm," said a six-armed Overlord coldly, his body wreathed in flames. "The risk is too great. Our Ling Jiang faction has only nine late-stage Sovereign legions in total. To dispatch five legions at once just to kill Ming Jian?"
"I also disagree. This Ming Jian is a monstrous prodigy of the Taiyuan Divine Court. Though his actions are arrogant, the situation so far has only been an internal conflict within the Greenridge Macrocosm. As for those Sovereigns of the Greenridge Immortal World? They only agreed to join our Immortal Court at the last minute to save their lives. This is clearly not out of loyalty to our Immortal Court, but for survival," another Overlord likewise voiced his rejection.
Overlord Gu Nian's expression grew increasingly grim.
"The few Sovereigns of the Greenridge Immortal World are not important, but Ming Jian has indeed challenged our Immortal Court," a figure in a black robe slowly said. "If for nothing else, we must punish Ming Jian to uphold the reputation of our Immortal Court."
"Agreed."
"By right, we must punish Ming Jian," another Overlord also spoke up. "However, Ming Jian's strength is formidable, and he is also a Sovereign of Space. If we send our forces to the Greenridge Immortal World, what are our chances of victory?"
These two Overlords were generally in agreement with Overlord Gu Nian's suggestion.
"Jue Dong, what do you think?" Overlord Gu Nian looked toward the last Overlord.
He wore silver armor, with long flowing hair and an extremely imposing stature, exuding an aura of intense dominance.
"I agree to dispatch troops," Overlord Jue Dong said slowly.
Overlord Gu Nian immediately revealed a hint of joy. As long as the majority of Overlords agreed, they could mobilize the army.
The two Overlords who had voiced their opposition frowned slightly, somewhat puzzled.
"But I have conditions," Overlord Jue Dong continued.
"Conditions?" Overlord Gu Nian was slightly taken aback.
"If all goes well, that's fine," Overlord Jue Dong said calmly. "But what if things don't go smoothly, and our forces suffer losses, or the Taiyuan Divine Court's armies decide to attack?
“If it triggers an inter-Saintdom war and results in massive losses, what then?" Overlord Jue Dong looked at Overlord Gu Nian. "Gu Nian, if our Immortal Court doesn't send troops this time, the various factions won't say anything. There's no loss of face to speak of.
“When all is said and done, this is your personal grudge. Are you willing to bear the consequences?" Overlord Jue Dong said lightly. "If you're willing to bear the consequences of failure, then I'll agree to send troops."
The hall fell silent.
The other Overlords all looked at Overlord Gu Nian.
If the conflict had erupted in the galactic clusters outside the macrocosm, they would have sent troops without hesitation.
A single late-stage Sovereign powerhouse was insignificant before an Overlord, but once their numbers grew large, they became incredibly terrifying.
A late-stage Sovereign legion at full power could suppress an ordinary Overlord. Five legions joining forces? They could dominate the universe unchallenged.
But when entering the spacetime of a macrocosm, the situation was different. The army's strength would be greatly suppressed, and the danger level would rise sharply.
Consequences! Overlord Gu Nian’s head cooled.
A long moment passed.
"Very well. If the operation fails, I will bear all consequences," Overlord Gu Nian said in a low voice. "But likewise, if we succeed, I will receive 50% of the tribute collected."
"No problem."
"Agreed." The five great Overlords no longer had any objections, and immediately issued their orders.
...
Within a mysterious restricted area in the Immortal Court's Ling Jiang Saintdom.
Here stood hall after hall, garrisoned by the mana bodies and ether bodies of a large number of late-stage Sovereign powerhouses.
For the various Saintdom factions, the most common military force consisted of a rotation of Sovereigns on duty, usually numbering less than one-tenth of their total Sovereigns. They were required to assemble within three days if a war between Saintdoms erupted.
The Sovereigns on duty varied in strength. And besides them, the peak combat forces of Saintdom factions were the late-stage Sovereign legions.
A qi refiner legion was composed of 108 qi refiner Sovereigns. A body refiner legion was made up of 81 body refiner Sovereigns.
Each legion was entirely composed of late-stage Sovereign powerhouses, with a Sovereign of Space at the helm. They trained in formations year-round, stationed in one place for long periods. Once deployed, each legion could unleash heart-stopping combat power.
Late-stage Sovereign powerhouses mostly lived carefree lives, disliking constraints. Thus, the vast majority of Saintdom factions did not maintain too many late-stage Sovereign legions, ranging from three to five at the low end to ten or so at most.
“The war decree has been issued.
“Target: Sovereign Ming Jian of the Taiyuan Divine Court.
“Location: Greenridge Continent in the Greenridge Macrocosm.
“Form up."
Figures radiating immense auras flew out from the various halls, swiftly assembling
"Depart." Soon after, the Sovereign of Space in each legion immediately led the numerous Sovereign powerhouses toward the Greenridge Macrocosm through the Spacetime Intersection Layer.
However, the journey from the Immortal Court's Ling Jiang Saintdom was long, and it would take considerable time for them to arrive.
...
As the Immortal Court's armies set out, Wu Yuan's qi refiner self continued to clash with Sovereign Hai Xuan and the other five Sovereigns at the Greenridge continent, dismantling array bases one after another.
The entire Greenridge continent showed subtle signs of impending collapse. This was to be expected. After all, the battle between Wu Yuan and Sovereign Hai Xuan's group approached the level of Overlords. If not for the numerous defense arrays, such a void continent would have long since shattered from the battle's aftershocks.
Hmm? A flash of surprise passed through Wu Yuan's eyes.
Instantly, he split off a strand of consciousness, entering a special plane within the Taiyuan Voidrealm. The entire plane was empty save for a few figures radiating powerful, majestic auras.
Whoosh! Wu Yuan’s avatar appeared out of thin air. His gaze swept across the surroundings before he bowed slightly in greeting: "Overlord Xin Ya, Overlord Shan Jin, Overlord Xue Li, Overlord Yan Kui.”
