You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 311-Thank you
Matthew naturally had no objections and gave him a verbal promise. As long as Laurent managed the branch office smoothly, she wouldn’t have to strictly follow a 9-to-5 schedule. In other words, her working hours were flexible, and she didn’t have to be at the branch office from nine in the morning to five in the evening. This way, it would be easier for them to meet and spend time together.
After hearing Matthew’s words, Laurent was stunned for a moment, but then, as she came to her senses, her eyes started to well up with tears.
Originally, she had decided not to go to A.T. anymore, but in the end, he still agreed to her request...
He—
Various emotions surged in Laurent’s heart all at once, leaving her unsure of how to express her feelings at that moment.
With red eyes, she looked up at the man who was holding her close in his strong embrace, and she choked up, saying a single word:
"Thank you..."
Then, without caring about the people around them, she buried her face in his chest and held him tightly.
She thanked him for his tolerance, for fulfilling her wishes.
She thanked him for loving her so deeply.
Neither of their families had anything more to say to them. Whatever needed to be said had already been said. As for Dave, he had already done his part, and now, it was just about the two of them living their lives together.
The Lord of Burg Eltz didn’t attend, saying it was a celebration for the younger generation and that he wouldn’t participate. He only sent a piece of his own calligraphy and painting through the butler: "A harmonious family brings prosperity."
On a smaller scale, this clearly indicated that he didn’t want any future conflicts between Washington and Laurent. On a larger scale, it meant he didn’t want Washington Co. to remain in disarray. At the same time, it was a subtle attempt to persuade Daniel and Tiffany to stop their feuding. Their son and daughter-in-law had already found happiness, so it was time to let go of the old grudges.
When Dave and Bert ran into each other while smoking outside, they exchanged a few words.
It was Dave who approached Bert to start the conversation.
"I hope that in the coming year, you’ll do your best to manage Washington Co. You just heard, Laurent will be assigned to A.T. for a year. During that time, my focus will definitely be there. I won’t neglect Washington Co., but I won’t be able to give it my full attention either."
Bert glanced at him sideways, then turned his head, coolly exhaling and asking, "Is it worth it?"
"To keep giving up these things for a woman, is it really worth it?"
Dave laughed.
"There’s no such thing as worth or not worth. What’s called ’not worth it’ is just because you don’t love enough."
Then he turned and walked away. After taking a few steps, he suddenly turned back.
"By the way, design a wedding ring for us. We haven’t even gotten a decent one yet."
Dave said this lightly and casually, then left without looking back.
Bert stood there, grinding his teeth. First, he designed a dress for their daughter, and now he had to design wedding rings for them. When did Bert become the exclusive designer for this little family of three?
When the party ended, Tiffany took the initiative to suggest that the young girl go with her. She’d drop her off at school the next morning, indirectly giving the newlyweds the whole night to themselves. She then took the young girl to the car and left.
They were in Daniel’s car. Over the past few days, Daniel had been finding various excuses to get closer to Tiffany. Tiffany, little by little, was starting to let go of the grudge she held against him. It was evident from tonight, when she willingly got in Daniel’s car and went back.
Morrison teased Dave.
"This is what a real wedding night is about. You better cherish it."
As soon as Morrison spoke, he felt a disdainful gaze directed at him from behind. He casually turned his head to see.
Yep, as expected, it was some heartless woman glaring at him with disgust.
What was going on? He hadn’t dared to say much all night, barely uttering any risqué comments, but every time he did, he could feel an angry little fire burning in him.
Wasn’t he allowed to tell a joke, or crack a colorful comment?
But before he could even express his frustration, the young girl had already climbed into her car and left first, which only left him fuming with even more anger.
Laurent’s parents were staying at a hotel. After sending everyone off, Dave drove Laurent and her parents back to the hotel.
After sending Laurent’s parents to the hotel and making sure they were settled, the two of them sat in their room for a while.
Cassy, in front of Dave, began to lecture her daughter.
"Laurent, once you’re at A.T., don’t neglect your family."
Cassy’s true intention was that she didn’t want her daughter to go. She felt that after everything Laurent and Dave had been through, finally being together, it would be better for them to just settle down and live a good life instead of continuing to go through struggles.
But since Dave had already agreed, Cassy didn’t feel like she could say anything more. She could only remind her daughter to prioritize her family.
Of course, Laurent understood all of this, so she responded calmly.
"I know, don’t worry about it."
Cassy still wasn’t at ease. She pulled Laurent aside and spoke quietly.
"You and Dave have been through so much. Why do you have to go to A.T.? Aren’t you afraid that another woman will take him away?"
What Cassy was worried about was exactly this, and Laurent had thought about it as well. She furrowed her brows and put on an expression of apparent distress.
"Of course, I’m afraid... I’m afraid too..."
Cassy scolded her.
"Then why go to A.T.?"
Laurent smiled softly.
"But if he can be easily taken away by someone else, then there’s nothing worth me holding onto."
Cassy wanted to say something more, but Laurent stopped her.
"Mom, I know what you’re worried about, but I believe you understand, too. Love is easy, but living together is hard. Going to A.T. this time can be seen as a test for our relationship."
Meanwhile, Alex and Dave remained mostly silent. Men generally aren’t as good at expressing themselves with words; for them, actions speak louder.
Dave’s every action for Laurent hadn’t escaped Alex’s notice, and of course, it was deeply engraved in his heart. Love and indifference, care and apathy—everything was clear to see. So, there was nothing more to say.
After leaving the hotel, the two of them drove home. On the way, Laurent softly asked Dave,
"Why did you suddenly agree to me going to A.T.?"
She had already prepared herself to not go, but tonight, Matthew had informed her that Dave had agreed. And then there was the dinner with their friends and family that Dave had arranged—everything had caught her off guard and left her feeling... deeply moved.
She was touched by his thoughtfulness, by how he always considered her feelings.
As the car stopped at a red light, Dave reached over and took her hand, speaking gently,
"I don’t want you to have any regrets."
Laurent quietly looked at him, then her slender fingers turned over, intertwining with his.
"Thank you..."
Thank you for loving her this way. Having his love and care made her feel that the five years of coldness she once endured didn’t even matter anymore.
