Chapter 451: Chapter 451: Mr. Drake Seems Familiar

Mr. Drake, suspecting nothing, politely said to Vincent Vance, "It’s just me; to be honest, my son died young years ago, and he didn’t leave behind any children. Since then, I’ve been living alone in this world, so I’m really just a lonely old man."

Vincent Vance asked about his family with the intention of probing whether the man in white who suddenly appeared last night was indeed real.

But now with Mr. Drake saying this, if he were to ask further, it might make him seem overly cautious, possibly causing dissatisfaction from the other side.

"Oh, that’s quite pitiful of you. Once this matter is settled, I will properly thank you, ensuring the rest of your life is peaceful and secure."

Vincent Vance drank the last bit of rice porridge, turned around, and glanced again at May Morgan still soaking in the wooden tub, worriedly asking, "I wonder how much longer May needs to soak?"

Mr. Drake looked up at the time, then at May Morgan in the tub, and said to Vincent Vance, "It should be about done; let me help take a look."

After speaking, he walked over to the tub, pulled out May Morgan’s right hand resting outside the tub, and used a silver needle to prick her finger, letting some blood drip into a white porcelain bowl.

Vincent Vance saw that as the needle pierced May’s finger, May Morgan noticeably furrowed her brows.

Compared to before when she felt nothing at all, May Morgan now seemed to have a sense of pain.

Vincent Vance felt a surge of happiness and quickly went over: "Mr. Drake, I see May is showing some reaction."

"Is that so? Then it should be alright!" Mr. Drake observed the blood in the bowl, nodded, and said to Vincent Vance, "It’s done, Miss Morgan is almost awake. Here’s what I’ll do: I’ll go downstairs to boil a pot of hot water; once Miss Morgan wakes up, you can give her a wash."

"Okay!" Hearing May would wake up soon, Vincent Vance felt very happy and quickly nodded in agreement.

Just as Mr. Drake left with the empty bowl, May Morgan whimpered and slowly opened her eyes.

"May, you’re finally awake!"

Seeing May Morgan open her eyes, Vincent Vance quickly grabbed her hand and said.

May Morgan’s consciousness was still a bit scattered, her memories lingering only at the battle with that old woman, making everything feel particularly unfamiliar.

"Vincent, where am I? Am I not dead?"

She only remembered being hit by that old woman, her body burning with pain, falling into a daze and losing consciousness. She thought she had died, trapped in hell, burnt by hellfire. This excruciating pain lasted a very long time, long enough for her to believe she’d suffer such torment for the rest of her life.

But suddenly one day, the pain on her body inexplicably vanished, and as she opened her eyes, she saw Vincent Vance.

Vincent Vance didn’t want May Morgan to worry or be afraid, so he smiled while explaining, "You’re safe now; that old woman is dead, and you’re secure."

"And... What about you? How are you?" May remembered that Vincent Vance’s back had been badly scratched by that old woman. Unable to stop herself, she tried to stand up from the tub, but as soon as she did, her body softened as if boneless, quickly falling back into the tub.

"Careful!" Seeing this, Vincent Vance immediately bent down and scooped May Morgan out of the wooden tub. He had rushed over, so hadn’t prepared spare clothes for her. Now, May Morgan was completely naked, and Vincent Vance quickly took off his shirt to cover her, shielding her body from view.

He was tall, and the shirt was naturally large, enough to wear as a short dress for May Morgan.

Looking at May Morgan dressed seductively, Vincent Vance couldn’t help but tease her, "I’ve always wanted to see you in a white shirt; now it’s realized in our marital playfulness."

May Morgan feigned anger, glaring at him, and said, "Even now, you have the mood for such jokes?"

Vincent Vance felt content as he hugged May tightly, kissed her forehead softly, saying, "As long as you’re alright, nothing else matters."

His lips moved towards May’s lips, wanting to capture them, but May turned her head away.

"I... I smell of medicine, it’s filthy!" May Morgan quickly pushed away Vincent Vance, refusing in a low voice.

Just then, the wooden door gently opened, startling May Morgan.

Seeing her look out the door in terror, Vincent Vance immediately explained, "Don’t worry, it’s someone I found to treat you."

As he spoke, Mr. Drake had already pushed open the door and entered. He glanced at Vincent Vance and May Morgan briefly; seeing May dressed lightly, he didn’t dare to look much, lowering his head as he spoke to Vincent Vance, "Mr. Vance, the hot water is ready in a tub in another room. You can take your wife there for a wash."

"Alright, thank you!" Vincent Vance gratefully looked at Mr. Drake and said politely.

Mr. Drake smiled mildly, said nothing else, and turned to leave the room.

After he left, Vincent Vance stood up holding May Morgan, intending to go to another room to bathe her, explaining as they walked, "Mr. Drake was found by Jacob Jennings in Crestwood, known to be very skilled. He helped heal your body."

While Vincent Vance explained to May Morgan, she just held onto his arm, saying nothing. Vincent Vance sensed something wrong in her demeanor, so he looked down at her.

"What’s wrong, May?" Seeing May gaze longingly in Mr. Drake’s direction, as if troubled by something, he couldn’t help but ask.

May Morgan snapped out of it, raised her head to glance at Vincent Vance, and asked, "What did you just say?"

Vincent Vance looked at May Morgan, noticing her strange reaction to Mr. Drake, curiously asking, "Why are you staring at Mr. Drake? Do you know him?"

May was stunned for a moment but eventually shook her head, answering, "I don’t know; he just looks familiar, like I’ve seen him somewhere, but I can’t recall."

Where had she seen him?

May’s words made Vincent Vance feel strange too. Indeed, when he first saw Mr. Drake, he had a similar odd feeling, as if he’d seen that face somewhere, but when trying to recall, he couldn’t remember.

"If you can’t remember, don’t dwell on it. Maybe he just looks familiar; there are many people in the world with similar appearances to Mr. Drake."

Fearing that May Morgan would worry herself and harm her health, Vincent Vance quickly talked her out of it.
