Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 347: Something Strange
May Morgan kept staring at his expression until he drove the car onto the road, then she asked again, "What’s wrong with you? What happened? Where’s the Jade Pendant?"
"Don’t ask for now, I’ll take you back first."
Victor Grant did not answer May Morgan’s question, but drove with a serious look, pushing the car to its maximum speed.
Seeing him like this, May Morgan felt it was too bizarre. Victor Grant, after all, had been in society for many years and couldn’t be frightened by a small matter, unless something terrifying had happened in that courtyard.
Moreover, why did he go to get the Jade Pendant but return empty-handed?
"Don’t take me back, what about my Jade Pendant? Hurry up and tell me, where exactly did the Jade Pendant go? Did something major happen in that courtyard?" May Morgan asked Victor anxiously.
Victor turned his head to glance at May Morgan, hesitated for a moment, then said softly to her, ’Someone died in the courtyard!’
What?
May Morgan was stunned for a moment, then immediately warned Victor with vigilance: ’Then call the police, what are you standing there for? If you don’t call the police, what about my Jade Pendant?’
"We will call the police, but let’s get you to a safe place first!" Victor’s face was even more tense than before.
He would never forget the sight of Samuel Zimmerman and his apprentice lying dead on the ground when he opened the door; it was too gruesome. Even though he was used to experiencing big waves in life, he couldn’t help but be startled by their corpses.
The manner of death was something he had seen once before when Brianna White was still alive, and he had sent people to harass that woman. His three subordinates died in a similar way, but compared to those three, Samuel Zimmerman’s death was even bloodier and more terrifying. If it wasn’t for being able to vaguely recognize the identities from their tattered clothing, he wouldn’t have believed they were the men he had seen alive a few hours ago.
He knew that whatever killed Samuel Zimmerman and his apprentice was not ordinary—perhaps a poisonous insect or something even more mysterious. Regardless of what it was, it threatened May Morgan’s safety, so he hoped to get her to a safe place quickly.
May Morgan was concerned about her Jade Pendant, so before Victor could take her back, she stubbornly told him, ’Take me back to check on the situation. I have to retrieve my Jade Pendant.’
Victor gave May Morgan a resigned look and sincerely advised her, "Don’t go there, it’s unlucky since someone died, and it’s quite bloody."
"I’ve seen dead people before, what’s there to be scared of?" May Morgan grabbed Victor’s arm, forcing him to stop the car: ’I’m warning you, don’t deceive me. If I don’t see the situation myself, I’ll think you’re lying to me!’
"You’re really something..." Victor was forced to stop the car, seeing May Morgan’s stubbornness, he had no choice but to compromise: ’Let me tell you, those two died terribly, don’t be scared when you see.’
May Morgan seriously nodded, responded: ’I won’t, I’ve died more times than I can count, why would I be scared of this?’
"Alright then."
Victor took out his phone, tossed it to May Morgan, signaling for her to call the police, while he turned the car around: ’Call the police first, who knows what’s inside? What if there are poisonous insects?’
May Morgan also felt she couldn’t be reckless at this time, so she obediently called the police. However, their car was faster than the police cars, so Victor’s car returned to the alley before the police arrived.
Passing the intersection where the confrontation with that private car happened, May Morgan’s eyes suddenly lit up, she turned and asked Victor, "The car from earlier that almost hit yours left in a hurry, do you think there might be something wrong?"
Victor paused, turned to look at May Morgan, thought for a moment, and nodded in agreement: ’It’s possible, the driver acted like he was racing to reincarnate, desperately moving forward. I’ve been here during the day; few people live here, mostly impoverished, so who would drive here at four in the morning? They must be up to something sinister!’
May Morgan grabbed Victor’s hand again and said, ’Did you get a clear look at the license plate of the car earlier?’
Victor shook his head regretfully, "No, just focused on getting back your things, who would notice that? But my car has a dashcam. The headlights were bright when we came in, the license plate should be clearly recorded."
"That’s it, when the police arrive, be quick to show them the dashcam footage to catch those two culprits."
Victor gave May Morgan a complex look, said nothing, and drove to the black wooden door, staring at the half-open door and the dark courtyard inside. Victor hesitated and advised May Morgan, ’Better not go in now, let’s wait and go in with the police later?’
"No way, what if the Jade Pendant is inside, once the police arrive they’ll take it as evidence, I need to look.’
May Morgan stubbornly opened the car door and decisively got out. Victor sighed slightly, quickly taking a gun and tucking it into his waist, then grabbed a flashlight and followed May Morgan down.
Seeing Victor taking a gun, May Morgan immediately ordered him to put it back: ’Are you crazy? If the police see you with a gun, they’ll cause you trouble.’
Victor couldn’t care less, who knows what’s inside, he only took a quick glance before, not daring to stay long. In case there’s a greater threat, having a gun would help hold off the danger for a while.
"Don’t worry about it, I’ll just find an excuse if the police ask." Victor stubbornly told May Morgan.
May Morgan sighed helplessly, snatched the gun from his hand, hid it back in the car carefully: "If it’s really as terrible inside as you say, this gun would be useless, just follow me, I’ll protect you!"
The remark left Victor feeling quite frustrated; being a big man taller than her, yet needing her protection at a crucial moment?
"Stay behind me, I’ll lead!" Feeling uneasy, Victor grabbed May Morgan’s eager arm, pulling her behind him for protection.
May Morgan smiled wryly but didn’t argue with Victor, so the two cautiously entered the small courtyard one after the other.
During the day, this small courtyard looked serene and quiet, but now, under the stark moonlight, it was eerily unsettling.
