You Will Only Be Mine-Chapter 466: Walk
Once everyone was done eating, Ai helped me do the dishes while Natsumi-san saw Iwaguchi-san off. Suffice to say, he will be visiting for lunch often now, which does make me happy, being able to cook for all of them. Natsumi-san also helped a little with the dishes, but most of her job was just putting everything that was cleaned back to where it was needed to be kept.
Doing that, I crashed on the couch in the living room with her while Ai made her way upstairs. I have a good idea where she went, given the big smile on her face. I could hear the giggling from upstairs clearly.
"She is in your room," Natsumi-san spoke up, and I nodded.
"Well, I think I have a good idea what she is doing there, but it’s not like I can stop anything. She does what she wants when it comes to me and my stuff," I said, shrugging my shoulders and staring at the ceiling. "It’s nice being back here."
"It’s great to have good food at home," she said, and I chuckled a little. She loves to eat.
"That was not something rude, okay?" I said, quickly being on guard the moment I felt her slightly move. This woman is terrifying. I learnt that in many ways.
"You were just stating a fact, so I don’t really mind it. The food you cook is great, so I find myself eating more than I want," she said, and I scratched my head.
There was silence for a while, but it wasn’t a bad thing. I was taking in the feeling of being back here while Natsumi-san...I have no idea what she was thinking. It is quite unfair how she can basically read my mind whenever she wants, but when it is me, I can’t do that. I guess this is what she would love to call a woman’s intuition, but I’m pretty sure it’s just Natsumi-san’s intuition that was at play here. I could hear a light plop on my old bed and loud breathing from upstairs.
"How are you holding up?" she asked, an odd question. I looked at her, a little confused. "Don’t give me that look, you know full well what I am talking about."
"My vampirism?" I asked and got a little tap on the head.
"Yuna," she said, and my body felt numb. I clenched my fists and looked at my knees. "I know for a fact you didn’t even have enough time to mourn her."
"I...did a little but..." She was right, as always. With everything that was going on, I couldn’t even fully think or care about another important event that happened. I met Yuna and saw her die before my eyes. By that bastard. I was sad, but what filled me more was rage and pure hatred towards that bastard.
"Even in your explanation, when I came back, you lightly glossed over the fact that she was killed. It surprised me how unbothered you looked at the time, but it all makes sense. You didn’t even have proper time to let that sink in," she said, and placed her hand on my back, lightly rubbing it. "We finally have some time alone, so I hope you let go of that always trying to be responsible attitude and be a kid. It must have been hard."
I clenched my fist harder and gritted my teeth. I was fuming with rage about the fact, but this time, my grief took over. I finally met the sister I thought was dead for so long, and within a few days, saw her actually die right before my eyes. There was so much I wanted to talk to her about. So many things I wanted to tell her and show her. I wanted to buy so much stuff and spoil her for just being there. I wanted to be her older brother again, but all of that was stolen from me. Right before my eyes. In the end, she was the one who saved me. If she didn’t intervene, I wouldn’t get a little time to slightly recover from the damage inflicted by that bastard. I doubt I would still be alive if I didn’t have that time.
Tears started to flow down my face, and I started to lightly sob. I clenched my teeth harder, trying my best not to bawl out before her like I used to. She moved closer and held me in a tight hug, and that was when I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I cried my heart out. Every bit of emotion or thought I had held back about Yuna’s death was let out when those floodgates opened. My heart ached, my throat dried up, and my snot started to drip from my nose. It was not a pretty sight to look at.
She would have loved to meet Ai and Natsumi-san. Spend time with them and go out at night for their own little shopping spree or something. We three would be visiting Natsumi-san more often and spend much more time in this house, and catch up on something. I wanted her to make more friends and have fun with them. She didn’t deserve this, any of this. She didn’t deserve to be converted into a vampire against her will, nor did she deserve to live with Dominic. She absolutely didn’t deserve to die at the hands of that bastard. She still tried to somewhat defend him, but that bastard stabbed her in the back and took her life. She didn’t deserve that.
"It’s okay, let it all out," Natsumi-san said, and I did just that. I wanted to yell, vent, and complain so much to her, but right now the only thing that came out of my mouth was mournful cries.
I didn’t know how much time I spent crying. I just knew the tears won’t stop coming out, and the warmth from Natsumi-san allowed me to be much more vulnerable than I would let myself be. I was honestly exhausted after crying so much that my eyes weren’t even watery anymore. I ran out of tears, my throat dried up, and I was in desperate need of water. I tried to pull away to get myself a glass, but Natsumi-san stopped me and got up herself, grabbing a bottle of water out of the fridge.
"I thought you said drinking water right out of the fridge is bad for your health," I said, somehow able to word that out after that show.
"When you’re a vampire, diseases have different triggers," she said, unscrewing the bottle and handing it to me. It was cold and chilly. Reminded me of Ai.
I drank the contents of the bottle in one big gulp, too impatient to take sips. My body needed water, and it needed it now. Cold water was the perfect thing for the occasion since it gave me an illusion of hydrating me better than room-temperature water. I don’t fully understand the reasons behind it. The water was everything I needed in the moment. It disappeared within seconds.
"Feeling better?" she asked, and I nodded. "I’m happy to know that."
"She would have loved to meet you," I spoke up, and she sat down next to me.
"I’m sure she would be. Thought I doubt how she would react to my actual job and way of handling kids," she said, and I chuckled a little.
"I know you would be a lot more lenient of her than me," I said jokingly.
"I would be," she said.
"Hey, that’s unfair." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
"She was always my favourite out of you two," she said, and I lightly punched my shoulder, making her chuckle. "Do you have a picture of her? A current one?"
"I...didn’t think I would need to take one immediately," I said, scratching my head. "Also, you know I had my hands full with Ai being kidnapped."
"Do you want one?" she asked, and I looked at her, confused. She went to her phone and started fiddling with it before holding a picture of a familiar face on the swing, having fun with the biggest smile on her face. "We don’t put names on vampires until we know them, but from what the survivors identified, this was one of the pictures that were taken of her by some of our people."
I just blankly stared at the picture and looked up at her, looking back down at it. "How long did you have this?"
"For a few days, but I wanted to handle everything your body was going through first before I put this before you," she said and placed her hand on my shoulder.
"I see," I said, and the next thing I knew, she sent the picture to my phone. "Thank you, Natsumi-san."
This line was rewarded by a hard hit on the back of my head that I held in pain. "Since when did you have to be thanking me for stuff like this?" she asked, looking a little pissed off. "You’re family. Of course, I’ll do something like this. Can’t see you looking like a dead radish on the inside."
"Why do you have to use such a weird analogy?" I asked and braced for another hit, which never came. God is being gracious today. "Ai, how long will you be listening to us from behind the door?"
We both looked as the half-vampire emerged from behind the door and gave us a little smile before jumping onto my lap in one great leap. She grabbed my head and pushed it against her chest, hugging me tightly. With how loud I was crying, I’m sure she would have heard it even if she wasn’t a vampire. She started ruffling my hair and caressing my back without saying a word, and I let her.
"By the way, yesterday we had groups made for the trip," Natsumi-san said, getting both of our attention. "Unfortunately for both of you, it was a group of four. Ai was picked with her friends."
"Wait, which one is not in my group?" she asked.
"Sigh, Haruka, Asumi, Sakura, and you are in one group. Kazuki is the one in a different group," she said, and the calm before the storm only lasted for a second before I felt the pair of arms holding me tighten.
"Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" Ai screamed.
