Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 845 - 847: Mona’s Father’s Situation, Phone Call
A few months ago, Luo An and Mona went to Hawaii for vacation and unexpectedly ran into Javari Evans laughing and chatting with a beautiful woman in a restaurant. (Chapter 703)
Afterward, Javari explained in a letter that he was actually just putting on a show, and his real goal was to penetrate the organization the woman belonged to and find out the truth about the death of an old friend.
For a long time afterward, Javari Evans disappeared without a trace, and both Mona and Caroline could only get in touch with him occasionally.
If it weren't for a backup insurance plan Javari Evans left behind that was flawless, Mona and Caroline would have suspected something had happened to him.
Hearing Luo An mention this, Mona paused, her face turning completely somber, and she muttered:
"He's fine, don't worry about him."
"?"
Luo An was a bit puzzled, but seeing Mona's unhappy expression, he decided not to probe and swiftly changed the subject to discuss their plans for the coming days.
The hardest parts of the counterfeit operation – the investigation and arrests – were already over, and what remained was paperwork and procedural work.
In terms of these tasks, Michelle in the investigation team had the most experience, and apart from fundamental matters of authority and responsibility, everything else was handed over to Michelle to lead and handle.
Under Michelle's leadership, the work wouldn't take much time, and the remaining time could be freely arranged by the special investigation team members themselves.
Mona had no particular ideas about it for now; feeling exhausted, she only wanted a few days of proper rest.
"By the way."
Seeing Luo An give her a look she knew all too well, Mona shot him a glance and said:
"I haven't been feeling well these past few days, as usual, we'll sleep in separate rooms."
"?"
Luo An furrowed his brow slightly, calculating in his mind. He looked up and asked:
"The timing doesn't seem quite right?"
Mona snorted coldly:
"I said it is, so it is."
"OK."
Knowing better than to argue with a woman over such matters, Luo An didn't continue to debate, nodding repeatedly to admit that he was mistaken and that Mona was undoubtedly right.
Mona chuckled lightly, her mood much improved.
Luo An's smile was even wider; it seemed that he had lost this round, but sometimes an early defeat leads to a greater victory later on.
That night, after taking a shower, Luo An casually walked into Mona's bedroom as if it were his own home.
Mona was furious about this, pinning Luo An down and scolding him severely.
Later, Luo An caught a slip in Mona's words and quickly turned the tables, arguing so fiercely that Mona was left speechless and eventually fell asleep exhausted.
The next day, Saturday, Mona couldn't be bothered to pay attention to Luo An and directly made plans to go shopping with Chenier.
Luo An, having nothing to do at home, picked up the phone to call Caroline.
"Wow."
On the other end, Caroline laughed and said:
"Group Leader Luo An is the one actually calling me, this is a rare occasion.
Let me guess, Mona is right next to you watching and this call is her idea, am I right?"
"No... sorry, you guessed wrong."
Following a long sigh that made Caroline's expression slightly stiff, Luo An casually chuckled and said:
"Mona went out shopping with a colleague, it's just me at home."
"Wow!"
Hearing this, Caroline's tone suddenly increased in pitch, and she laughed even louder:
"So, does this mean you're planning to have a nice chat with me?
Let me remind you, while Mona and I look very similar, we're actually half-sisters."
Caroline was a child adopted and raised by Javari Evans, so in some sense, her relationship with Mona was indeed like that.
"You can mess around with food, but not with words."
Luo An chuckled and casually replied:
"Mona's father has threatened me more than once with his shotgun, I'm quite afraid of him."
"A decent cold joke."
Caroline rolled her eyes elegantly, remembering Luo An's prowess from the past, and knowing how much Mona liked him, Javari Evans' threats often seemed more like a joke.
"Alright, let's talk business."
Luo An smiled, avoiding further idle chatting with Caroline, and directly asked:
"How's Mona's father doing now?"
Caroline quickly caught on to what Luo An was referring to, and her expression turned peculiar. After pondering for a few seconds, she replied:
"Father's fine, he's joined that environmental organization... and even became part of the leadership. Currently, he's preparing to launch a massive environmental initiative."
Initially, Javari Evans had approached that woman to investigate the truth behind his old friend's mysterious death.
The woman didn't disappoint Javari, swiftly introducing him to people inside the organization and inviting him to join the environmental group.
With decades of experience in the CIA, office politics were a piece of cake for Javari Evans. It didn't take long for him to uncover the truth behind the scenes, displace the murderer from their high position, and take it over himself.
Javari Evans felt somewhat at a loss about this; after taking down the perpetrator, he was ready to find an excuse to leave when Mrs. Hanover approached him.
"Mrs. Hanover expressed that environmentalism is actually a business."
Caroline's expression turned peculiar:
"So, Mrs. Hanover also joined the environmental organization. Together with my father, they managed to relocate the organization's headquarters to Europe.
Now, with Mrs. Hanover leading and my father following, the woman who invited my father into the organization was persuaded by them to provide assistance from behind. The three of them are working tirelessly to expand the organization's scale, hoping to imbue more Europeans with the environmental ethos, and then... rake in the profits."
"..."
Luo An twitched a bit at the corner of his mouth, questioning if the wild environmental organizations popping up in Europe originated with them?
And about Caroline's mention of Mrs. Hanover in the lead, with Javari Evans following, and another woman further back... Luo An seemed to understand why Mona didn't look particularly pleased.
"The environmental organization is growing rapidly."
Caroline chuckled and said:
"With Mrs. Hanover's background, this organization is making strides towards Europe's upper echelons.
In a few years, once more Europeans embrace the ideas it promotes, these people can convert them into votes. As my father profits, Mrs. Hanover might just have a chance to enter the upper ranks of the European Union."
"...SIX."
Luo An's eyelid twitched, as he seemed to grasp Javari Evans and Mrs. Hanover's intentions, appearing as though they were planning to embark on a promising new phase of life.
Having confirmed that Mona's father was fine and merely engrossed in his flourishing career, Luo An chatted briefly with Caroline before ending the call.
Several hours later, Mona returned home carrying a pile of goods, and just as Luo An was about to strike up a conversation with her, the phone on the table suddenly rang.
"Good afternoon, Group Leader Luo An."
A familiar male voice came through the phone – it was Michael Brey from Wall Street. He spoke rapidly, asking if Luo An had time, as there were things on Wall Street that needed them to meet.
"OK, I'll be right over."
Luo An, having nothing better to do, nodded and agreed. He went upstairs to change his clothes and, after mentioning it to Mona, drove to New York.
In one of the skyscrapers on Wall Street, Luo An met up with Michael Brey in his office.
"Good afternoon."
After taking the coffee handed to him by Michael Brey, whose face was brimming with an uncontrollable smile, Luo An raised an eyebrow and said with a grin:
"Seems like you've got some good news to deliver today?"
"Exactly!"
Michael Brey nodded emphatically, handed a folder to Luo An, and said with a laugh:
"We succeeded."
