Without any warning, one second Vivian was using her right hand to hold onto the carriage and stepping onto the carriage with her right leg, and the next second she completely lost her strength, collapsed to the ground like a corpse, silent as the grave.
Catherine was completely unaware of Vivian’s sudden collapse. After a momentary shock, a chaotic mind finally registered what had happened. In her urgency, she even used her professional skills, and a rescue charge appeared next to Vivian. Catherine’s reaction was fast, but Pannis acted even faster. When Vivian fell, Pannis didn’t hesitate but appeared next to Vivian at the highest speed, checking her breath, followed by pressing the veins above Vivian’s collarbone. At the instant his hand touched her collarbone, Pannis’ face changed, and he incredulously looked Vivian up and down before raising his head and saying to Catherine, "It’s okay, her vital signs are normal. But, her..."
"Stop." Catherine waved her hand to stop Pannis from continuing, "You know what’s going on, that’s enough. Don’t mention what you found."
"Alright." Pannis nodded, turned up Vivian’s eyelids and took a look, "Weird, I can’t find any abnormal signs."
"No need to worry." Lina jumped off the carriage with a grave expression, knelt next to Vivian and held her hand. "She’ll be better soon."
"This isn’t the first time?" Pannis asked in surprise.
"No, it isn’t." Catherine, who was standing next to Lina, answered for her. "This is... Fourth time? Or the fifth?"
"Big sis," Lina looked up, and it seemed that her eyes were moist, "It’s happening more frequently than before."
Catherine silently touched Lina’s shoulder and squeezed it tightly.
"Senior sister, Vivian... She’s okay, right?" Dora, who didn’t understand what was happening, also came over and lowered her head to look at the unconscious Vivian. "She passed out?"
"Don’t worry, she’ll be fine soon," Catherine managed a small smile for Dora. "It won’t interfere with anything."
Dora opened her mouth, about to say something, when Vivian on the ground suddenly opened her eyes.
"Wow, is it really that serious?" Vivian blinked her eyes playfully, "You don’t need to all come around me. It seems as if you’re looking at a corpse."
"Say nonsense again and I’ll kill you." Lina hid the unease on her face and gently slapped Vivian’s cap, "Wake up and get up soon. Don’t waste everyone’s time."
"So ruthless." Vivian pouted and stood up, dusting the dead leaves off her body. She leisurely climbed onto the carriage, this time without any mishap. Catherine and Pannis looked at each other and buried their doubt in their hearts. They climbed to the coachman’s seat together.
"We depart, to help the mercenaries gather the bodies first." The crack of the whip rang out, and the carriage that had been standing still for sometime started moving again, the wheels crushing the dead leaves on the ground, disappearing into the trees.

Spindle Village is the largest village in the forest border area of the Neville Federation, with nearly six hundred permanent residents. If you count the adventurers and mercenaries who frequent the Shining Forest, the population often exceeds one thousand.
Spindle Village is not known for its textiles, but because its shape resembles a spindle. Among the village’s inhabitants, apart from a portion who run shops specifically for adventurers and mercenaries, the majority of the villagers pursue the same occupation - hunters.
During the times when the forest is not under attack by the magical beasts, the Shining Forest is akin to a treasure trove, brimming with inexhaustible wealth and an abundance of food. The flora and fauna at the outskirts of the forest are sufficient to meet the needs of all villagers living nearby. With just hunting and gathering, these villagers could live in relative prosperity. The one lament is the invasion of magical beasts. Every late autumn, the magical beasts store food for the winter and often go on mad hunting sprees, causing innumerable troubles for the surrounding villages.
With the western sun behind it, a fast-moving carriage rushes out from the edge of the forest towards Spindle Village.
"Wow, so this is Spindle Village." Lina sits in the carriage, looking in surprise at the distant village, "It’s completely different from what I imagined."
Indeed, the forest border villages are unique, entirely different from villages in other regions. These villages aren’t surrounded by farmland, indeed, there’s no large-scale farming at all around these villages. Instead, they’re encircled by a solid wooden wall. Being on the outskirts of the forest, there’s no shortage of wood for such fortifications. Moreover, considering the villagers’ own safety, these walls are built impressively tall and robust. Every single log used in the construction of the wall has undergone rigorous processing to be incredibly waterproof and fire-resistant. Against such a wall, and given some level of preparedness by the villagers, only enormous, upper-rank magical beasts or flying ones pose a significant threat. Every deep autumn, mercenaries rely on these walls as their stronghold, killing a large number of magical beasts beneath them.
The carriage exits the forest and rejoins the regular road leading to Spindle Village. Seeing the approaching carriage, the mercenaries guarding the wall slowly open the gate. The entrance to the border village is interesting. After entering the gate, there is a square passageway, ten meters long and wide. On both sides of the passageway is a wooden wall of the same thickness, and at the end of the passageway is a second gate. During the season when the magical beasts invade, the inner and outer gates of any village must remain closed. The guards are responsible for opening and closing the gates when people need to enter or exit, but under no circumstances are both gates to be open at the same time. At least one of them must remain closed.
As the "creak creak" noise sounded, the heavy gate that required two professionals to close gradually closed. Dora jumped out of the carriage agilely without waiting for it to stop and shouted, "Falcon, Grey Fox, White Bear, Thorn Wolf, what kind of mistake did you guys make this time to be punished to guard the gate?"
"Ha, Sister Rose, you finally arrived, we’ve been waiting for a long time." A young mercenary with hedgehog-like short hair came over cheerfully, "We lost in a card game, today we are assigned to gate duty for the whole day. Big sister, did you bring us any gifts?"
"Gifts?" Dora sneered coldly: "Wait until we return alive this time, those who survive will receive gifts."
"Alright, based on your words, this time we brothers will definitely make sure to return alive."
"Enough idle chatter." Dora pointed at the carriage: "Falcon, Grey Fox, you two continue to guard the gate. White Bear, you come here, help Thorn Wolf unload the stuff from the carriage."
"What stuff, big sis." The Bear Clan mercenary White Bear who was robust and tall, and covered in a dense layer of white fur, ran over. Each step cause the ground to shake slightly due to his size resembling a small mountain.
"Bodies. The bodies of Swan, Whistle, Siskin, and five other brothers." Dora said solemnly: "Was there a battle this morning? When we were passing through the edge of the forest, we encountered eight Terror Beasts. This can be considered as avenging our brothers. Thorn Wolf, Siskin, and Whistle were your good brothers, you should put in some effort to bury these eight brothers."
"Thank you, big sis." Thorn did not feel sad when he heard Dora mention the death of his friends again. As a mercenary with a higher death rate than adventurers, especially for lower rank mercenaries, the death of a teammate or colleague is as common as eating and breathing. Today it might be your turn to send a friend off, tomorrow it could be your friends sending you off. Everyone has long been accustomed to being indifferent to such matters. They can laugh it off casually, perhaps only shedding tears of sorrow in the dreams of the midnight.
"Let’s first go in and find a place to stay." Dora waved at the four adventurers standing nearby: "The luggage you brought will be delivered by them. Do you have any special requests?" ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"Just somewhere quiet." Catherine thought about it and said: "Vivian needs to prepare spell materials and Lina needs a quiet environment for her daily prayers. The rest doesn’t really matter."
As they spoke, the inner gate of the wall slowly opened, and five people entered Spindle Village empty-handed.
Once inside the village, a variety of buildings scattered around could be seen. The architecture of forest border villages has its own features, if one would define it in one word, it would be sturdy. Although all the buildings are made of wood, a great amount of timber is used for each building to ensure absolute sturdiness. The walls and core parts of each building consist of two layers of thick wooden boards that are tightly packed with a large amount of cotton and then compressed. Large, split logs are attached to both sides of the wooden boards and are so tightly fitted together that they are airtight. From a distance, every building’s wall looks like a row of large tree trunks closely packed together, making the house incredibly solid. It can withstand attacks from most magical beasts. Living in such a house, even if the village wall is breached, the inhabitants can hold out for a long time with the help of the house itself.
"Such a structure..." Catherine, who was visiting a forest border village for the first time, pondered upon seeing the scene before her and asked curiously: "Aren’t they afraid of arson?"
"No worries about that," Pannis said. "The forest people have their own techniques. The lumber used for construction is soaked in a special liquid for a very long time. The wood, after soaking, can prevent fire to some degree. Ordinary flames are not hot enough to ignite this kind of wood. Only a very high temperature can set such a house on fire. If measured by magic, only a fire explosion cast by a Silver Rank Mage or a fireball cast by a mage of Gold Rank and above can set fire to such a house, assuming no one is extinguishing the fire."
"I understand." Catherine nodded: "Such a structure is indeed very sturdy."
"This is wisdom driven by the pressure of survival." Dora, leading the way in front, stopped: "Here we are, you can stay here for today. I will come to see you all tomorrow evening so we can get to know each other. Oh, and I will find the best guide for you. Don’t worry."
