Terror Beasts are considered a headache by most adventurers.
This variety of reptilian magical beast has a body similar to a lizard but walks upright on two legs. Its hind legs have evolved to be long and robust, enabling it to run and leap at a rapid pace in dense forests. Its forelegs are short yet incredibly sturdy, possessing a substantial strength. At the ends of its toes, it has sharp claws that can easily tear through a bull’s hide, without needing to exert much force. In addition to this, its jaw muscles are well-developed, possessing a biting strength comparable to that of an ordinary black bear, which can easily cause fatal harm to humans.
If one were to only pay attention to their physical strength, they often forget the real terror of these beasts. They can spurt out acid from their mouths without warning every fifteen minutes, the range of which can reach up to ten meters. The corrosion of the acid is potent, capable of dissolving almost all metal gadgets, apart from those made of certain types of magical metal like Magicsteel and other metals with strong magical resistance. Many professionals ended up their lives in the beasts’ mouths due to their carelessness over this acid spritz.
Terror Beasts are incredibly aggressive, and it seems like they have an ever-hungry stomach, capable of consuming massive amounts of food in one go and quickly going into the next cycle of hunger. This behaviour means it spends half of its day either hunting or feeding. As a result of this, anyone who needs to venture into the forest views them as nightmares, thereby earning the name- Terror Beast.
"A Terror Beast?" Dora frowned: "What’s it doing here?"
"Yes, I think it just finished attacking a village and returned back here to feed." Pannis replied: "But we disturbed them with the noise of our carriage."
"Eight bodies?" Dora’s voice was grave. "Were there any..."
"Three belonged to the Silver Rank. Two were males, and one female." Pannis said. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"No surprise there." Dora sighed, pulling out her whip from her waist, and said with a wry smile: "Eight casualties from a surprise attack by five Gold Rank magical beasts. That’s quite a remarkable feat."
"Here they come." Catherine challenged the hidden beast by striking the shield with her one-handed sword. "Dora, guard Vivian from mid-range attacks and don’t let the beasts get close to her."
"Who would guard against potential sneak attacks from beasts hiding in the dark?" Dora and Vivian stood together; the whip began to twirl over their heads.
"Tactic No. 7." Catherine didn’t answer Dora’s question; instead, she yelled out the code for their battle tactic. Holding her shield, she started to move around Dora and Vivian. Lina took position in front of Vivian, turned her hand upward and a phantom image of a gold Heaven Armor appeared from the sky. After merging with her body, it slowly dissipated. Vivian calmly stroked six small potion bottles, still flickering a faint light, and remained silent, showing no reaction. As for Pannis, she had disappeared entirely from the battlefield, as though she was never there.
"Hiss..." After a long standoff, an acid arrow shot towards Lina from the bush, followed by a shadow leaping out. Lina didn’t move an inch. Instead, Catherine hurriedly rushed forward a few steps, and with her giant shield in hand, blocked the acid arrow with ease. The strong-smelling acid arrow, generating white smoke, made contact with the shield and due to its liquid nature, slipped down the smooth shield unto the ground without causing any corrosive effects.
"A Magicsteel shield? Talk about being rich." Dora, sharp-eyed, identified the material makeup of the shield that Catherine was holding. Amidst the chaos, she managed to express her envy in a remark.
Catherine blocked the acid arrow, but instead of continuing to shield Lina, she smoothly stepped back, moving around the group once more.
"Almighty and merciful God, grant the power of the earth to your warrior," Lina calmly watched the small Terror Beast chasing behind the acid arrow, softly chanting in her mouth, "Blessing Spell, Divine Power."
With her chant, an immense force was guided from the earth into Lina’s body, to such an extent that she felt as if her body had grown several sizes. Feeling the power pulsate through her, Lina didn’t raise her hammer, she instead smirked and took a step forward. Tightening her right fist as she pulled it back to gather energy, she then threw a punch towards the airborne Terror Beast that sprung towards her.
The airborne Terror Beast’s cold eyes showed a trace of cunning almost akin to human cunning. Suddenly it opened its mouth, completely defying the principle of only being able to spit acid every fifteen minutes, and spat a stream of acid towards Lina again. Clearly, the previous acid arrow sprayed out from the forest was not from this beast, but a combination of two. One beast sprayed while the other rushed out, creating the illusion that the beast rushing out had already exhausted its acid.
Lina didn’t react to the beast’s trap at all, her eyes didn’t even blink, and her fist continued to cannon towards the Terror Beast without hesitation.
"Protection, Acid Neutralization." The one to react was Vivian. Vivian didn’t use any of the six small vials in front of her, she just pointed her hand into the void towards the acid arrow. Upon the collision with her magical power, the steaming acid arrow suddenly made a hissing noise, rapidly transforming into a cloud of mist in its path before eventually dissipating in the air.
With a "bang" impact noise, the Terror Beast and Lina crashed heavily into each other. The Terror Beast’s front claws sliced heavily onto Lina’s arm, but just before the sharp claws could touch Lina’s clothes, a golden Heaven Armor appeared out of thin air, perfectly blocking the threat of the claws before dispersing into specks of light. Lina’s fist, carrying the borrowed power of the earth, hit the lizardlike face of the beast unobstructed, flattening its sharp, protruding nose and mouth.
Blood splattered, teeth shattered, the Terror Beast didn’t even have time to let out a cry of pain before it was flung sideways and crashed into a tree nearby, causing the already yellow leaves to fall. The black whip silently followed the beast along the ground, straightening as the beast hit the tree. The sword tip at the end of the whip, supported by the whip, pierced like a steel spear, stabbing through the beast’s twisted open mouth, through the mouth, through the brain, through the skull, nailing it to the tree.
The jungle fell silent. The Terror Beasts encircling them were evidently stunned by the sudden reduction in their ranks. Watching a Gold Rank beast die so swiftly and silently, under the teamwork of the four young girls, made the other beasts recoil, hesitant to launch another attack.
"Can’t decide whether to fight or flee? Let me help you make up your minds." Vivian wore a playful smile, as she gently pointed at a potion vial in front of her. The amber vial leapt straight up, like a coiling spring being released. It spun in mid-air without spilling a drop, and whimsically flew into the undergrowth.
"Boom." Just as the potion vial flew into the foliage, Vivian snapped her fingers and softly uttered a command. As the command sounded, the amber crystal vial silently shattered in mid-air, with the liquid inside evenly dispersed over the forest floor. In an instant, a cloud of dust rose within the potion’s range, followed by sharp thorns bursting forth from the forest floor. Three Terror Beasts, two small ones, and one big one, hidden within the trees, let out panicked cries, leaping out from behind the treeline.
"Thrust." Catherine held her shield close to her body, her sword held out flat. Her body accelerated with stunning speed under the influence of her ability. The thick, soft fallen leaves were tossed into the air by the wind pressure caused by her movement. Among the torrent of flying leaves, Catherine appeared before one of the smaller Terror Beasts, as if she had teleported. With the momentum of her speed, she brought down her one-handed sword on the beast’s head, while her left shield made use of its kinetic force to strike like a small hill. One Shield Bash left the adult Terror Beast no room to evade, it was directly hit and momentarily stunned. The beast she slashed at tried to leap away in panic, but the sword was too fast. It failed to escape in time, and one of its legs was cleanly severed at the knee. The crippled beast could only let out a howl of anguish as it lost balance and collapsed. Blood poured from the stump of its leg, staining the fallen leaves beneath it.
Without paying any attention to the stunned adult Terror Beast, Catherine charged forward without hesitating towards a juvenile Terror Beast. The young Terror Beast, seeing someone rushing at it, instinctively opened its mouth, as a jet of acidic fluid aimed clearly at Catherine’s face from a close range. Catherine glanced at the incoming jet of acid, then suddenly opened her mouth, unleashing a Knight’s Battle Roar, full of penetrating power, directly dispersing the concentrated acid jet, which then recoiled like a cloud of acid fog back onto the young Terror Beast’s face. The young beast had no way of anticipating such a scenario. With no time to prepare, it was sprayed in the face with its own acid. Although its thick skin could ward off acid corrosion, its eyes weren’t as fortunate. The acid rapidly burned and blinded them. Following the impact of the acid was Catherine’s shoulder plate. The metallic armor, emanating the glow of a certain energy, directly collided with the beast’s chest, the force spreading through the thick chest muscle, causing the hard breastbone to deform and fracture while making a series of crisp sounds. Not letting the injured beast off, Catherine draped her arm around its neck, drawing it closer to her body. With her left hand extended, she used her shield to protect herself and the beast from external attacks by the other four beasts, while the sword in her right hand continuously stabbed at a rapid speed into the young beast’s body. Within a blink, the beast’s body was riddled with over a dozen fatal penetrating wounds. After confirming that the young beast had completely lost vitality and was now lifeless on the ground, Catherine quickly turned back to the edge of their formation, holding her shield up in defence.
The remaining adult Terror Beast, dazed from being stunned, was not spared either. From the moment Catherine charged, Lina had been kneeling on one knee, eyes closed, softly chanting complex prayers. Just as the beast was about to recover from its daze, Lina suddenly opened her eyes, unfolded her clasped hands, and firmly slapped the ground. At the same moment, four large rock columns sprouted up tightly around the beast, sealing it without a gap in a confined space.
"My turn now." Vivian’s slender and fair fingers lightly waved, ominously pointing at a second red vial.
