"Help, help, someone is being murdered." Dora’s screams echoed through the ghost town at night.

Earlier that afternoon, when Pannis suggested they should spend the night in the town, the three girls didn’t question him and showed their support. Dora’s strong opposition was fully vetoed by the girls. As they kept Dora in custody, they thoroughly searched through the half of the city again. In some well-preserved rooms, they found traces left by the suspected thieves. The time spent searching went quickly, as the sky gradually darkened. The five of them found a well-preserved house to stay in. They cleaned up space in the living room and lit a fire pit.

"Scream all you want, no one will come to save you." Pannis sat beside the fire pit, while grinning maliciously as he trimmed the wolf’s leg meat they got from a wolf he killed earlier. His cunning expression, in the flickering firelight, looked dark and evil.

"Let me go, I want to leave here." Dora, huddled in a corner with her knees drawn to her chest, said through tear-streaked eyes, "Let me go."

"Go ahead, where do you think you can go?" Pannis sneered, in a haunting voice, "In a haunted town where the moon is obscured by dark clouds and strange noises emanate from the ruins. The knight-girl fled from the only sanctuary, only to find herself in a more terrifying situation. Ha-ha-ha! This is indeed very interesting."

"Ahhh, stop talking!" Dora covered her ears, "You’re all so mean. I trusted you all, and this is how you treat me."

"Who can you blame? If anything, blame yourself for trusting the wrong people." Pannis laughed coldly, "There’s nothing you can do about it now."

"Hmm, you two." Catherine had been observing the interaction between the two parties and finally she couldn’t help but cough to interrupt, "Had enough of your games?"

"Had enough." Dora and Pannis simultaneously changed their expressions and answered in a serious tone.

"If you’ve had enough, come and discuss the matter at hand." Catherine glanced at the two, "If you keep messing around, I’ll kick you both out."

"Yes, senior sister." Dora crawled back to the fire pit on her hands and knees and sat down, "I’m ready to go, madam."

"After the afternoon search, I’ve got some ideas." Catherine pulled out the search record and reviewed it: "It shows that they planned to stay here for a while. In many concealed rooms, they have started building beds and tables like the ones we moved over. If they were just passing by, they definitely wouldn’t build those. Judging from the number of furniture pieces, their stay here was not longer than three days."

"There were signs of a struggle around the finished or unfinished furniture." Lina continued, "Not just one, but many. This means they were attacked with force, and it was a sudden raid. So sudden that they didn’t have time to regroup. They could only fight individually in different rooms."

"But according to Pannis’ examination of the bodies, they didn’t have any fatal wounds," Catherine said, "Is that right, Pannis?"

"Correct." Pannis nodded, "Though the bodies have begun to melt, the findings are still quite clear. I can assert that even if there were wounds, they were only ordinary injuries - hardly any fatal ones."

"Very well. let’s reconstruct the scenario." Catherine thought for a while before speaking, "About thirty days ago, or rather thirty-three days back."

"Thirty-six days," Pannis corrected, "We can confirm that they died thirty-three days ago. But I’ll explain the specifics later. You continue."

"Alright then. Thirty-six days ago, the main force of the thieves arrived here. They planned to use the ghost rumors to make this place their hideout." Catherine said, her hand on her chin as she thought aloud: "They stayed here for three days, began cleaning up the usable rooms and making simple furniture, preparing to settle down for a long time. During these three days, they were not attacked at all. Everything was quite peaceful."

"Three days passed, and then thirty-three days ago," Catherine continued, "Probably at night, as Lina found oil lamps exhausted of their fuel in most of the rooms with signs of habitation. This illustrates that the lamp owners likely lit the lamps before they died; hence, it should be at night when they were suddenly attacked. Some died, others fled outside to fight back, but a significant number of them still died. Judging by the number of bodies, probably half of their total number. Those who survived, seemed to have finally won. They gathered the bodies, regrouped their resources and then quickly fled." freeweɓnøvel.com

"Now, their enemies could be humans, magical beasts or ghosts." Lina continued the analysis: "Firstly, we can rule out magical beasts. If it was them, it’s improbable that they would leave so many bodies. Secondly, have you noticed? There are no animals here, not even the chirping of insects in the late autumn. This indicates that it is unlikely for a large number of magical beasts to exist here. So, the remaining possibilities are humans or ghosts. If the enemy was human and since there are no fatal injuries found on the bodies - it could only be either poison, illusion magic or mental magic. Vivian, can you detect these?"
