Chapter 568 [Suspicions]

Two flames streaked through the air from the northeast!

Chen Nuo had already leaped out of the helicopter, his body shooting forward swiftly in mid-air!

Watching the two rockets whistling toward him, Chen Nuo’s figure flashed, appearing ahead of one, and a spatial rift directly sliced open in front of the rocket.

Meanwhile, on the ground in the jungle, a group of armed militants advancing in skirmish formation, shooting toward the camp while moving, suddenly found a space rift appearing in front of them.

A rocket rushed out, exploding in a burst of concussive force.

The blast and shockwave immediately flipped three to five individuals over on the spot.

Chen Nuo used a space rift to transfer one rocket away, but the other hit directly in front of him.

Several telekinetic barriers caught the rocket, and the explosive force pushed Chen Nuo’s figure back a few inches in mid-air.

Chen Nuo’s expression was stern, casually erecting a few more telekinetic barriers.

His strength had not yet recovered; as a Destroyer level, forcibly using "space," which surmounted his level, was some strain.

Thus, he could only transfer one rocket while using telekinesis to withstand the other.

At that moment, on the ground, some of the assailants in the jungle noticed Chen Nuo in mid-air. Amidst a series of shouts and hollers, some started shooting at him.

Chen Nuo’s expression didn’t change. As several telekinetic barriers unfurled around him, he watched countless bullets directed at him fall into the telekinetic barriers surrounding him, creating tiny white dotted ripples.

Chen Nuo darted rapidly, heading directly into the jungle at the camp’s northeast corner!

A group of attackers with portable rocket launchers suddenly found Chen Nuo landing in front of them, yelling and opening fire.

With a casual wave, Chen Nuo sent two armed men flying, an RPG crushed into scrap metal by his telekinesis in mid-air.

Another man with an RPG was terrified, screaming as he dropped the equipment and turned to flee into the jungle.

Chen Nuo pointed casually; a sharp telekinesis shot out, exploding the man’s head.

Grabbing the discarded RPG, with a thought, the device shattered into countless fragments.

All around the camp, there was the sound of gunfire and explosions.

Suddenly, Chen Nuo lowered his body sharply.

And then, behind him, from the camp’s direction, an explosion rang out.

Debris and flesh mixed, spreading everywhere, two or three mercenaries counterattacking with rifles were blasted apart.

"Grenade?"

Chen Nuo frowned.

They’ve used quite a few weapons.

Chen Nuo’s thoughts quickly searched, instantly locating the target.

Fifty meters away, an attacker aiming a grenade launcher was about to fire again, but multiple telekinesis pierced him, blood splattering, falling straight down.

·

The mercenaries in the camp were considered fairly elite, quickly organizing an effective counterattack upon the sudden assault.

Though the gunfire seemed to surround them, the Commander of the mercenaries promptly assessed the opponent’s main assault direction.

Mercenaries with weapons began to counterattack toward the jungle.

Meanwhile, some protection remained around the supplies store.

·

The Son of the Sun charged southwest, dissolving attackers wherever he went.

Agonized cries resonated through the jungle, bloodshed following his path.

In contrast, Chen Nuo darted around extinguishing fires, promptly moving to neutralize any points of gunfire before rapidly changing locations.

Chen Nuo pursued along the northeast into the jungle, sensing a small group retreating swiftly.

Soon, Chen Nuo spotted them.

A dozen or so fled frantically within the jungle, crowding around a middle-aged black man in unknown military attire.

The man wore a tilted beret on his head.

Outside the jungle, a few ATVs were parked.

Chen Nuo’s form flickered through the jungle rapidly, landing directly before the group.

Amidst screams, someone raised a gun to shoot at Chen Nuo, but he remained unperturbed as bullets poured onto his telekinetic barrier, leaving dense white speckles.

He unfurled his fingers, spiritual power rapidly scanning the scene, then clenched his fingers!

Bang bang.

The heads of several armed soldiers around him exploded simultaneously like watermelons, red blood and white brain matter splattering everywhere!

The scene was more horrific than a hellish nightmare.

The remaining soldiers were collapsing, some immediately abandoning their guns and fleeing, screaming, in all directions.

Chen Nuo paid little mind to these minor soldiers, grabbing the beret-wearing man in military garb.

The man still had some ferocity, drawing a handgun to resist, but Chen Nuo snatched it, crushed it into debris, and with telekinesis, the man dropped straight to the ground.

Chen Nuo ignored him, continuing toward the jungle’s edge.

Crossing two kilometers took Chen Nuo only a few leaps.

Outside the jungle, fleeing assailants retreated in haste.

The waiting ATVs were starting up but the lead car was instantly overturned by Chen Nuo’s telekinetic blast!

Ignoring bullets from frantic retreating soldiers, Chen Nuo swiftly flipped four ATVs using telekinesis, then casually crushed the heads of several nearby attackers.

Hearing pursuit noises from the jungle, Chen Nuo smirked and turned away.

The remaining combat problem was left to the mercenaries.

Retracing his entry path, Chen Nuo darted through the jungle. Passing the man restrained by telekinesis, Chen Nuo’s fingers flicked, causing the man to float behind him, following toward the camp.

·

The camp appeared quite disheveled.

Originally standing guard on the camp’s southeast and northwest were towers, now rocket-battered in the initial assault.

On the camp’s ground, scattered were seven or eight craters from explosions.

Earth and blood splattered on crates, leaving dark red stains.

Fallen bodies on the ground were already being tended to.

Chen Nuo walked along, a floating captive trailing him, unnerving many mercenaries on sight.

A temporary defensive line was formed using crates around the supply warehouse.

A mounted Gatling gun lay there, ground littered with brass casings.

Chen Nuo curiously watched the path of Gatling shots; numerous trees were felled throughout the jungle, the ground left with blrted corpses in the wake of Gatling fire.

Chen Nuo’s arrival was soon greeted by several mercenaries, among them a black-capped commander whom Chen Nuo recognized.

"This is the captive I caught, likely an attack leader; he’s yours now."

Chen Nuo flicked his fingers, dropping the captured beret-wearer to the ground.

Although rushing into the jungle’s bloody massacre, Chen Nuo, shielded by telekinesis, managed to stay free of bloodstains, not even gathering dust.

The black-capped mercenary leader gave Chen Nuo a respectful gaze, nodding promptly: "Yes, Lord Yama, we will handle the captive well, ensure we extract information from him."

Chen Nuo nodded, asking, "What’s the current situation?"

"Not too bad," the mercenary leader shook his head, "Their attack was cunning, appearing formidable but lacked efficient command. Initially, we were troubled some, but our organized counterattack effectively repelled them."

"Casualties?"

"Yet to be totaled, though based on my judgment, our manpower loss shouldn’t exceed twenty."

Chen Nuo pondered, then said, "Sweep the battlefield, tally the losses, and report to me."

Saying this, Chen Nuo headed toward his tent.

The tent was destroyed.

Originally positioned at the outermost area, Chen Nuo’s tent was torn apart by bullets, collapsing.

Chen Nuo couldn’t be bothered, ran to the supply box, fished out a bundle of intact supplies, pulled out an energy drink, twisted it open and gulped down half the bottle, when he heard a whoosh behind him. The Son of the Sun descended from the sky, walked up to Chen Nuo with a grim face, and also pulled out an energy drink to drink.

"How’s it going?" Chen Nuo turned to look at the old guy.

"Very interesting." The Son of the Sun sneered, "All ordinary people, not a single Ability User."

Chen Nuo looked at the old guy, his face and body were slathered with black mud, and even his clothes had blood stains.

Chen Nuo discreetly took a step back.

The old guy isn’t a Spiritual one, during combat he still prefers that reckless bullrushing style.

"I captured two of their leaders and handed them over to the camp people for interrogation." The Son of the Sun muttered, "But I feel it won’t lead to any results."

Chen Nuo smiled, "I caught one too. Hmm... I feel the likelihood of getting valuable intelligence isn’t big either."

Saying that, Chen Nuo fished out his satellite phone from his pocket and rapidly dialed Lu Xixi.

·

Once the call connected, Chen Nuo could hear music on the other end where Lu Xixi was.

Chen Nuo raised an eyebrow, "Are you having a party?"

Lu Xixi laughed in reply, "Not a party, just having dinner, the logistics people put on some interesting music."

Chen Nuo spoke in a deep voice, "Make sure you’re safe, I just faced an armed attack on my side."

Lu Xixi’s tone immediately turned serious, "Are you alright?"

"Of course I’m fine. The attackers were armed groups made up of ordinary people, no Special Ability Users found. So far the camp losses should be minimal. However, things are a bit strange, I can’t quite see through it yet. Captured some alive ones, awaiting interrogation results."

Lu Xixi pondered for a bit, "Okay, I’ll immediately have people focus on defense, tonight... let’s stay in touch!"

"Okay, be sure to keep safe there. I’ll inform you the moment we get results from the interrogation."

After hanging up, Chen Nuo turned to the Son of the Sun.

The Son of the Sun walked over to the bonfire.

The camp was already prepared for dinner, several heated lunchboxes still had food, but after a bout of fighting, quite a few had been knocked over.

The old man was quite calm, rummaging through the wreckage, he found a complete heated lunchbox, opened it and checked, it was beef stew with potatoes, he casually took out a spoon and sat on the supply box to feast.

"You have quite the nerve." Chen Nuo strolled over.

"You don’t understand." The Son of the Sun stuffed a mouthful of beef and muttered in answer, "I’ve been through world wars, ever heard of the Paris meat grinder? Eating among the dead, that’s just routine."

Chen Nuo silently gave the old guy a thumbs up.

The Son of the Sun grinned, then fished out another heated lunchbox to hand to Chen Nuo.

Chen Nuo opened it, it was beef stew with chickpeas.

He remembered, and also brought out a spoon to eat a couple of bites.

The taste was quite nice, after all it was heated before the battle, still had some warmth now, the texture was fine.

Chen Nuo chuckled and then pulled out a cigarette box to toss to the Son of the Sun.

The Son of the Sun’s eyes lit up, took one and lit it.

He only ate half of his meal before lazily leaving it untouched, sitting there contentedly puffing away on a cigarette till it was finished.

Chen Nuo didn’t smoke - ever since Chen Yiyi, he stopped smoking at home, and after a while it seemed he successfully kicked the habit.

After finishing a box of food, Chen Nuo rummaged through the chaotic supplies and fished out a bottle of water, drank half, then used the rest to wash his face and rinse his mouth.

"Looks like there’s no way to sleep well tonight." Chen Nuo glanced around the camp, everyone had returned, clearing the battlefield under the direction of the Camp Commander.

At this moment, a few people walked toward the two.

Chen Nuo glanced, "Your love interest is coming."

The group was the four Ability Users from the team, leading the way was the woman who had a fling with the Son of the Sun.

These four were clearly battle-worn, with blood stains and looking disheveled.

Three of them were originally with Chen Nuo on the helicopter, once the fight broke out, they jumped off to join the battle.

The Son of the Sun glanced at the four approaching, casually tossed that cigarette box over.

The three Ability Users didn’t waste words, each took a cigarette, the woman hesitated for a moment before she pulled one out to light.

"Did you find anything?" Chen Nuo asked.

One Ability User shook their head, "No, the attackers we encountered were all ordinary people."

Another Ability User hesitated, "The individual combat proficiency wasn’t high either."

Chen Nuo looked at him. The man chuckled faintly, "I spent a few years in the army."

"Which country?"

"Gaul Country Foreign Legion," the man shrugged, "later awoke to my Special Ability, found that place boring, so went solo."

Chen Nuo saw this man - a white guy they had interacted with in recent days, never really had a deep chat.

Probably because he was quite in awe of Chen Nuo’s Controller status, didn’t dare to strike up conversation much.

"Your name is Alek, isn’t it?" Chen Nuo still remembered his name, "Were these attackers’ military skills poor?"

Alek pondered, then said in English with a slight Russian accent, "Not very good. My judgment is, they’ve had some basic military training, but their overall quality isn’t high.

The attack we encountered tonight, their plan was quite neat, first they knocked out the camp’s two watch towers, then approached from three directions.

Long-range weapons bombardment, followed by ground assault.

From a military point of view, the overall combat plan was correct, there were no problems.

But when it came to execution, due to the quality flaws of their soldiers, the overall plan execution had lots of errors and omissions, these errors were all due to the soldiers’ quality not keeping up.

Otherwise, our losses would have been more than double."

Alek, that seemed to be his name, spoke cautiously, "Lord Yama, what I mean is, their soldiers were deficient in courage, and during battle, their decision-making in reaction to sudden situations, as well as their determination and resolve throughout the engagement, were all quite... lacking."

"So, a disorganized mob?"

"Better than ordinary folk, they’ve had military training, but can’t compare to a real army." Alek grinned, "After all, this is Africa."

Chen Nuo nodded.

Africa is chaotic, many places afflicted by war for years, various governments, tribes, small armed groups...

But generally speaking, the military quality is very poor.

In truth it’s simply due to lack of funds, and the absence of a modern army’s organizational system.

An elite army requires long-term training under the regulations of a modern army system.

Provisions, training, all must be completed strictly as part of a coherent system.

In Africa, many places’ armies are frankly just: gather some men, give them guns, do some basic training, don army uniforms.

All set!

When fighting, the style boils down to eight words:

Charge en masse.

Scatter and flee.

The vast majority are illiterate, all are illiterates.

Expecting them to grasp complex tactics is dreaming.

Chen Nuo glanced at the other Ability User, "Did you find anything?"

The rest shook their heads, indicating nothing.

But that woman, after hesitating thrice, spoke softly, "Lord Yama, I feel... uh, what I mean isn’t that I found anything, just a thought, I find..."

Chen Nuo looked at the Son of the Sun.

The Son of the Sun sighed, "No need to be so nervous, just say whatever you have."

The woman sighed in relief, her emotion eased a bit, "There’s a detail I find odd."

"Hmm, where is it odd?"

"This is our new camp, we just arrived today." The woman slowly said.

Chen Nuo was intrigued, knitting his eyebrows.
