Chapter 37: Chapter 37, Getting Skill Book, Seeing Su Qinghan

The day before the elimination round arrived quietly.

Inside Jianghe Hunter Academy, the atmosphere had already reached a boiling point. Students filled every training ground, every practice arena, and even the open courtyards between dormitory buildings. Weapons clashed in constant overlapping rhythm, and instructors moved between groups shouting corrections as freshmen pushed themselves through drills with the focused desperation of people who had just realized how little time they had left.

For many of them, tomorrow’s elimination round would determine their future. Victory meant recognition, resources, and opportunities that could reshape an entire career. Defeat meant fading quietly into the background while others moved forward without them.

But while the academy buzzed with tension, Lin Yi had already left the campus early that morning. His destination was somewhere very different.

The Jianghe Hunter Market.

Located near the city’s eastern district, the Hunter Market was one of the busiest areas in the entire city. It was a chaotic but vibrant place where hunters traded monster materials, equipment, potions, and occasionally even rare skill books.

The market streets stretched endlessly, lined with wooden stalls, stone shops, and wandering merchants shouting their offers.

"Fresh monster cores! High quality!"

"Rare leather armor! Half price!"

"Magic scrolls! Last three left!"

The noise of bargaining and negotiation filled the air.

Lin Yi walked calmly through the crowded market, his eyes scanning the various stalls.

He wasn’t here for equipment.

He already possessed a Legendary Abyssfang Blade, something most hunters could only dream of.

What he needed today was something else.

Skills.

Two skills, specifically.

The first was a movement skill.

Something that could allow him to close or create distance in an instant during battle.

In the hunter world, such abilities were broadly categorized as Flash Step or Blink techniques, short-range displacement skills that turned a single step into something that defied normal reaction time. Against faster opponents or ranged fighters, the difference between having one and not having one could decide a fight before it truly began.

The second was even more important.

A skill that could regenerate spiritual energy, restoring his reserves mid-combat rather than forcing him to pace himself or risk running dry at the worst possible moment.

His Spirit attribute was still relatively low. During prolonged battles, his energy reserves could quickly become a limitation.

If he could obtain a regeneration skill...

Then the system’s 1000× amplification might transform it into something extraordinary.

Lin Yi stopped in front of another merchant stall.

The old shopkeeper shook his head.

"Flash Step skill book?"

"Too expensive, young hunter. I don’t stock those."

Lin Yi nodded politely and continued walking.

After nearly twenty minutes of searching, he still hadn’t found what he wanted.

Just as he was about to move to another section of the market—

A familiar voice suddenly appeared behind him.

"Lin Yi?"

He turned around.

Standing a few steps away was Su Qinghan.

The young woman wore a simple academy combat outfit today, but even without formal attire she still carried a quiet elegance that made people notice her immediately.

Her long black hair fell neatly behind her shoulders, and her clear eyes studied Lin Yi with mild curiosity.

Lin Yi nodded slightly, "Su Qinghan."

She walked closer, looking around the bustling market.

"I didn’t expect to see you here."

Lin Yi replied calmly, "I needed to buy something."

Su Qinghan raised an eyebrow, "Equipment?"

Lin Yi shook his head, "Skill books."

That answer clearly surprised her.

"You’re still buying skills the day before the elimination round?"

Lin Yi smiled faintly, "Preparation never hurts."

Su Qinghan studied him for a moment before speaking again, but before she could, a merchant’s voice suddenly called out from a nearby stall.

"Young hunters!"

"Skill books! Cheap skill books!"

Lin Yi and Su Qinghan both turned.

The merchant was a thin middle-aged man with sharp eyes and an overly enthusiastic smile.

His stall displayed several old-looking skill books stacked neatly on the table.

Lin Yi stepped closer.

"What kind of skills?"

The merchant quickly grabbed two books and placed them on the table.

"Perfect timing!"

"I just got these yesterday."

He pointed at the first one.

"Minor Flash Step Technique."

Then the second.

"Basic Spirit Recovery Meditation."

Lin Yi’s eyes flickered slightly.

Exactly what he needed.

Su Qinghan leaned forward and examined the books carefully.

After a moment, she frowned slightly.

"These are low-level techniques."

The merchant immediately waved his hands defensively.

"Of course they are!"

"High-level movement skills would cost millions!"

"These are beginner versions, perfect for academy students!"

Lin Yi opened the Flash Step book briefly.

The contents were indeed simple.

A basic technique that allowed short bursts of speed by channeling spiritual energy through the legs.

Not impressive.

But Lin Yi didn’t care.

Because the moment he learned the skill...

The system amplification would do the rest.

He closed the book calmly.

"I’ll take both."

The merchant grinned widely.

"Excellent choice!"

But just as he began wrapping the books—

The merchant’s gaze suddenly drifted toward Su Qinghan.

His eyes lit up instantly.

"Oh!"

"Young lady!"

"I didn’t notice earlier."

"You’re quite beautiful!"

Su Qinghan’s expression immediately cooled slightly.

The merchant leaned forward with a playful grin.

"You know..."

"I might also have a special skill book for stamina."

He winked exaggeratedly at Lin Yi.

"Very useful for couples."

Su Qinghan’s face flushed slightly red as she immediately tapped the table sharply.

"Don’t be naughty."

The merchant laughed awkwardly.

"Just joking!"

"Just joking!"

Lin Yi simply paid the coins without reacting. After that, the merchant handed over the two books quickly.

"Pleasure doing business!"

Lin Yi placed the books into his inventory, then looked toward Su Qinghan.

"Well. Looks like my shopping is done."

She nodded. "You found what you wanted."

They began walking out of the market together. Su Qinghan glanced at him sideways.

"You’re learning new skills the day before the tournament."

Lin Yi smiled faintly. "Sometimes the smallest upgrades make the biggest difference."
