Working as a police officer in Mexico-Chapter 1720 - 772: Following the Europeans, Starving Three Times Every Day! (Part 2)
"You see what I said? NATO's group of gentlemen can't agree on the spoils, so people below are starting to look for a way out. The Italians were beaten into submission, while the Polish woke up hungry."
Casare also laughed, "You see? It might be a trap."
"A trap? Using a Deputy Prime Minister-level figure to set a trap? The cost is too high." Victor walked to the window, gazing at the blue sea outside, "Meet. Why not meet? One more 'friend' is better than one more mortal enemy. Besides, the Polish have weight in Eastern Europe and are an unstable factor within NATO; they can be used."
He turned around, "But don't talk here. Too many eyes in Cancun. Head south, Belize is quieter, tell the Polish the location has changed to Belize; they set the time but as soon as possible, also—"
He paused, revealing a playful smile, "Remind them to be subtle, and then more subtle. NATO's intelligence agency isn't a pushover, although they might have been confused by their own business dealings lately."
"I understand, I'll notify them."
May 31, 1996, Belize, outskirts of San Ignacio, a secluded coffee plantation.
The manor appears quaint but is heavily guarded inside.
Victor, dressed simply in linen shirt and trousers, sits in the cool shade of the corridor, leisurely sipping local coffee.
Not a few guards are patrolling around.
At 3 pm, two unmarked off-road vehicles drive into the manor.
Six people get out of the cars, headed by Polish Deputy Prime Minister Marcinski, dressed in an incongruous dark suit, looking weary but with tense eyes.
Following him are Yankovsky and four other staff members.
Marcinski momentarily pauses upon seeing Victor in the corridor.
This Mexican leader appears more formidable than in photos; his gaze calm, not as aggressive as imagined, yet the invisible pressure instantly envelops.
He strides forward, slightly bows, and speaks in slightly accented but clear English, "Leader Santos, thank you for taking the time to meet. I hope my unexpected visit hasn't disrupted your schedule." His tone is respectful, even a touch of humility.
Victor stands up, shakes hands, and gestures to sit, "Mr. Deputy Prime Minister, you've come a long way, you've worked hard. Belize's coffee is quite good, have a taste."
After taking a seat, Marcinski doesn't engage in small talk and directly lets his assistant hand over a dark wooden box. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"A small token of respect, not a substantial gift."
Inside the box is a meticulously preserved Polish cavalry sword, with an eagle emblem embedded on its hilt, alongside an ancient parchment map replica, marking the boundaries of Poland-Lithuania Federation at its peak. "It has witnessed our nation's glory and struggle. I hope it can also witness our friendship."
This gift is quite interesting, having both military symbolism and historical nostalgia.
Victor glances at it and nods, Casare steps forward to accept.
"I've accepted the gift."
Victor directly gets to the point, "Mr. Deputy Prime Minister, you wouldn't cross half the globe just to deliver a sword. Speak, what does Poland want from Mexico? And what can you offer me?"
Marcinski takes a deep breath, knowing the time for pleasantries has ended and it's time for serious talks. "Leader, let's speak plainly. Poland's situation in North America... is very awkward. We've sent troops, shed blood, but in the eyes of some allies, we're still second-class players, only worthy of leftovers, and even those depend on their mood. This isn't the reason we crossed the ocean to come here."
Victor remains expressionless, "So?"
"So, we want to change our approach."
Marcinski leans forward, "Between Poland and Mexico, there's no historical grudge nor direct geopolitical conflict. The current hostile state stems from Poland's commitment to NATO. But if that commitment only brings sacrifice and discrimination, while some countries within NATO are busy dividing interests, even secretly contacting you, then Poland reevaluating its stance is both reasonable and necessary."
Yankovsky timely supplements, "We still have a regimented 'Lightning' brigade in Indiana State, controlling about an 80-kilometer-long front line and three crucial traffic nodes. We can keep this front line… quiet, or even, if necessary, become a barrier, blocking possible detours by other NATO troops. In return, we hope to secure fair participation in the post-war economic reconstruction of Indiana and broader North America. Not charity, but cooperation."
Victor slowly stirs his coffee, silent for a moment. "Keeping the front line quiet sounds good, but do you think NATO would still fight now?"
"They're all making money; who would still want to risk their lives?"
Victor chuckles, shaking his head, "Let's get to something substantive."
Deputy Prime Minister Marcinski and Deputy Chief of Staff Yankovsky exchange glances.
"We can help you jointly develop Indiana State.
"Poland and Mexico are partners, not enemies. Specific fields could include infrastructure reconstruction, mineral resource development, agricultural cooperation; Poland has experience in heavy machinery and agricultural production. What we need is an entry ticket and assurance."
"Moreover, Mexico needs to change the global impression, we can help, for example, by helping promote you to host the Olympics delayed for the next year or two!"
"We are willing to offer full support."
This touched Victor's heart.
