Chapter 549: Chapter 549: Core of the Time Slot

The Time Slot Core was the first thing the Duke encountered that involved rule power, something extremely rare.

At least at the Duke’s current level, it was almost impossible to come into contact with such things.

Even if one could spend a huge cost to purchase something containing rule power, normally the Duke wouldn’t be able to use it.

But the Time Slot Core is different. It is a treasure unique to the Sea Race, and using it doesn’t require much power infusion or a high power level.

Just a little bit of Spiritual Power is enough to use the Time Slot Core.

The ability of the Time Slot Core can only be used once every three months and cannot be used frequently.

Because it is not driven by the user’s own power, it needs to accumulate energy by itself.

The Time Slot Core is extremely rare, even within the Sea Race it is a very precious treasure.

For the Sea Race, it is more a symbol of identity, only the royal family of the Sea Race can possess it, and only important figures within the royal family are qualified to use it.

The Sea Race giving this to the Duke as a token of friendship shows their gratitude towards him, and this also highlights the importance of Serafina.

The Duke found it a bit strange why the Sea Race knew Serafina’s name and was so certain about it.

From Serafina’s reaction, it indeed seemed to be her name, just that she had forgotten it herself.

"For those high-level existences who have equally touched the edges of time-space rules, its effects will be greatly reduced, or even resisted." The Sea Race Elder thought of something and specially reminded them.

Though the time-space freezing function of the Time Slot Core is powerful, it may not be useful against high-level existences who already mastered rule power.

The Duke remembered his Messenger Yarbede, who easily broke through the rule barrier surrounding the World Tree Seed, as if taking something out of a bag, with hardly any obstruction.

He also understood that this thing could indeed serve as a trump card at critical moments.

But one shouldn’t hope to rely on it to deal with mighty enemies. In the face of absolute strength and life level differences, these are futile efforts.

"Thank you for the royal’s generous gift and trust. May the friendship between me and the Sea Race endure." The Duke accepted the gift and didn’t forget to politely bow and express gratitude.

The Sea Race Elder nodded and finally looked at Serafina, gently saying, "Your Highness, it’s time to go home."

Hearing this title, the Duke became even more curious about Serafina’s status among the Sea Race.

This Sea Race Elder was a Level 4 Life, equivalent to a god-like existence on other planes.

Yet, such a person was here just to welcome Serafina, and was being so respectful towards her.

Wizards are always curious, and the Duke became increasingly curious about the relationship among the Sea Race, Beauty Shell, and Serafina.

However, he also knew that curiosity killed the cat; without enough strength, he needed to restrain his curiosity.

This matter obviously involved the secrets of the Sea Race. If he attempted to probe those secrets recklessly, it might not end well for him.

If the Sea Race were truly determined to harm the Duke, with his current strength and status, even Black Sail couldn’t protect him.

Serafina still held onto the Duke’s sleeve, looking at him, then at the Sea Race royal members eagerly awaiting her, her eyes filled with confusion.

In the end, she seemed to understand something, slowly letting go of her hand.

Serafina glanced at the Duke, and a cool, pure, ocean-vitality-and-blessing-filled thought flowed silently into the Duke’s heart. It was a wordless gratitude and reluctant farewell.

From this thought, the Duke sensed a hint of inquiry, and he quickly understood its meaning, smiling as he said, "My name is Duke."

This was Serafina asking for his name. Upon hearing it, Serafina tilted her head slightly, seriously remembering it.

Then, under the respectful guidance of the Sea Race Elder, she boarded the most luxurious chariot carved from giant pearls and sea crystals.

The grand royal procession of the Sea Race slowly started, majestically merging into the depths of the sea’s darkness, until its last gleam disappeared completely.

The surrounding seawater seemed to resume its usual flow following the departure of this procession, but the invisible pressure and the recent shock lingered in the minds of every being at Blade Ridge Camp who witnessed this moment.

The Duke stood alone, tightly holding the Time Slot Core.

The cold touch of the crystal and the flowing silver light inside constantly reminded him that everything just happened was not an illusion.

This treasure pertaining to rule level was far more valuable than any resources or knowledge he had acquired before.

It represented not only a life-saving opportunity but also a window to glimpse at a higher level of power.

Lauren, intentionally or otherwise, had been standing beside the Duke the entire time, and he finally opened his mouth with a smile: "This is a good thing. If you have the chance to use it in the future, I think chances are that you’ll make good use of it."

At first, the Duke didn’t understand Lauren’s meaning. He was pondering how this could be something optional when it could be used in danger.

But then he thought for a moment and quickly grasped that Lauren was not referring to using it under threat.

Lauren meant that when the Duke’s power increases to a certain level, the rule power contained in the Time Slot Core would likely be a great help to him.

He had high hopes for the Duke, believing he could reach that level and thus saying he would make good use of it.

"Wizard Duke." The departing Commander Faao returned, his face showing an undeniable fatigue, but his gaze towards the Duke was more complex than ever, containing gratitude, awe, and even a faint hint of envy.

"Commander Faao." The Duke gathered his thoughts, nodding slightly.

"The royal envoy has left, and the information will be under the highest level of secrecy." Faao said seriously, "Regarding Princess Serafina and the role you played in this, I hope you keep it strictly confidential. This is crucial for you, for Black Sail, and for the relationship between our two races."

"I understand." The Duke nodded, well aware that this matter involved much at stake, and mindful that being entangled in such high-stakes secrets, low-key behavior was the only way to protect himself.

He was not a high-profile person by nature and had no intention of spreading the matter, which would only bring trouble to himself.
