Wizard: Start with Biological Transformation to Grind Experience-Chapter 126 - 001: Distance
Chapter 126: 001: Distance
On their way back, they traveled in a carriage—by far the most luxurious one Lynch had ever seen since coming to the Wizard World. It was drawn by six pure white Flying Pegasi, with the interior magically altered using a special Space Technique to create a spacious environment, including a bedroom, living room, lounge, bathroom, and dining room, all perfectly equipped.
They flew the entire journey back, with accompanying knights also specially equipped with Flying Pegasi. The majestic procession soared through the skies, resembling an airborne legion. It was grand, almost as impressive as Air Force One for the President of the United States back on Earth.
One could only say—truly befitting of a young lady from a High-level Wizard Family; it was undeniably extraordinary.
A journey of several dozen kilometers in the air amounted to nothing. Setting aside the time spent resting and reorganizing, Lynch successfully returned to the Shadow Land by dusk.
From afar, the heavy, floating clouds and the towering Wizard Tower beneath them came into view, surrounded by clusters of buildings sprawling outward.
Lynch felt a wave of emotion.
He had never found this sunless, perpetually gloomy land so inviting before. At this moment, it seemed familiar, almost nostalgic—like returning to a hometown. It felt as if all the hardships and obstacles he’d faced along the journey had simply melted away.
Could this be a sense of belonging?
Come to think of it, without realizing it, the modern societal world view rooted in Earth’s technology had gradually faded from his memory. Instead, he was consumed by fantastical magic, by Subaru, Carl, Graham, and the people and events here.
After all,
it had been several years now, hadn’t it?
The clusters of buildings gradually zoomed into focus, growing larger until the carriage finally landed steadily in a spacious square within the private grounds of a castle near the Tower—it wasn’t the Shadow Square.
This was the White Castle, a castle belonging to the Tavendish Family within the Shadow Land.
A number of people were already waiting in the square.
On the outer perimeter stood knights dressed in uniform silver armor, upon which faintly glowing runic patterns shimmered. Each chest bore the Tavendish Family’s gryphon crest.
Lynch had once heard Graham mention that some Wizard Families select outstanding knights from the Human World to be stationed permanently in the Shadow Land. However, establishing a knight order in such a place was no easy feat.
The dense, high-element concentration near the Shadow Tower makes it impossible for knights to survive for long without modifications to their bodies or taking Magic Potions to suppress the elements. Either option comes with a significant cost.
Even the armor these knights wore was no ordinary plate; it was specially crafted from rare materials, embedded with runes, and magically constructed to fully enhance their combat abilities.
At the center of the square, encircled by the knights, stood several dozen apprentices. Their strength ranged from low to mid to high-level, and they stood in three rows based on their ranks, with everyone’s chest adorned with the Tavendish Family’s gryphon crest.
These apprentices were the Transcendents who served the Tavendish Family.
Most of them came from Wizard Organizations like the Shadow Tower itself. For instance, apprentices who could not ascend the Tower by the age of thirty were forced to seek other opportunities, with Wizard Families being one of the best options.
Serving a Wizard Family as a Family Wizard granted access to cultivation resources from the family to continue along the Wizard’s Road, forming the backbone of order.
Of course, most apprentices only ended up in smaller Wizard Families, stationed in remote areas performing more mundane tasks. Entering a prestigious family like Tavendish was an entirely different matter altogether.
At the forefront of the ranks stood an elderly man with snow-white hair and beard. The triangular insignia on his wizard cloak marked him clearly—it indicated that he was an Official Wizard.
When apprentices endured the lengthy apprenticeship period, overcame countless obstacles, and were finally fortunate enough to ascend to the Wizard Level as a world-recognized entity, the Wizard Family they served would select talented young heirs for marriage.
Through marriage, the Wizard would be permanently branded with the family’s mark and truly integrated into the family. Their descendants would thereby fully shed their Muggle identities and become noble Purebloods.
From then on, they would be fully embraced by this world, joining its ruling class.
The societal structure of the Wizard World worked this way:
Each Transcendent apprentice served a Wizard Family; Wizard Families combined to form Wizard Organizations.
From an ordinary human kingdom or the lowest-level resource site to colossal establishments like the Shadow Tower—none could exist without the influence of Wizard Families. Wizard Families were, in fact, the true fundamental pillars behind them.
And among those families, Tavendish was undeniably at the very pinnacle of the pyramid.
Once the carriage stopped, the caravan began an orderly handover, with the knights and low and middle-level apprentices stepping aside under the direction of their respective leaders.
High-level apprentices approached the Official Wizard for their handovers.
Only then did the carriage door open, allowing its occupants to step out one by one.
Aside from Lynch and Avery, there were over a dozen maids in the carriage, handpicked girls from the Human World. Their leader, the head maid, was an alchemy-modified automaton.
Avery seemed quite familiar with her; Lynch had seen Avery warmly address the automaton maid as Miss Lisa when they first boarded the carriage.
Now, as the carriage door opened, the maids were the first to descend, lining up neatly on either side of the carriage. Lynch followed suit and stepped out during this process.
After boarding the carriage, Lynch had been separated from Avery. He had been guided by the maids to a guest room to rest, whereas Avery had been taken to the main bedroom, likely for bathing, injury checks, and debriefing.
As Lynch waited near the entrance, footsteps soon echoed from within, and the automaton maid emerged from the carriage.
Then, under her guidance, a delicate, fair hand reached out from inside the carriage, followed by the figure of its owner.
Finally,
Avery stepped out of the carriage.
By now, Lynch had been unknowingly moved to the very edge of the crowd—unable to squeeze into any of the apprentice ranks and relegated to stand among the miscellaneous onlookers.
Between him and Avery stood rows of knights, low-level apprentices, mid-level apprentices, high-level apprentices, the Official Wizard, and the maids.
Fortunately, Lynch was tall enough to stand on his tiptoes to barely catch a glimpse of Avery from afar.
At this moment, Avery had evidently undergone meticulous grooming, shedding all traces of exhaustion. She now wore a pristine white wizard cloak.
With her chin raised slightly and her gestures guided by the automaton maid, she stepped off the carriage gracefully. She made no special movements, yet her every action exuded a natural air of noble elegance—like a princess high above.
Except for the Official Wizard, everyone present bowed their heads respectfully:
"Miss Avery!"
Avery nodded lightly with an understated grace, and the crowd lifted their heads again.
At the same time, the Official Wizard hurried forward, even adopting a deferential tone that was rare for someone of his stature: "You’ve finally returned!"
Avery replied with a breezy smile, "Indeed, the journey was quite arduous."
The Wizard clenched his teeth, suppressing fury: "This matter must be accounted for!" freeweɓnøvel.com
Avery shook her head, dismissing him: "We’ll speak of it later."
After a brief pause, she said directly, "Go and summon the elders of the family here. I believe I now have the qualifications to discuss matters with them personally."
The Wizard nodded. "Very well."
After a moment of thought, he added, "Let us first return to the castle. Miss Lisa informed me during the journey that you’ve suffered significant injuries. I need to know the full details."
Avery gave a slight nod.
With that, the two began walking toward the castle side by side, followed by the maids. The rest of the crowd remained where they were.
However, after walking some distance, Avery suddenly stopped mid-stride.
Her gaze swept across the group, searching intently. After some time, her eyes landed on Lynch standing far off in the crowd.
Without hesitation, she briskly walked toward him.
"Why are you standing all the way back here?"
She furrowed her brows.
Though it was just a simple question, at that moment, every pair of eyes within the crowd turned and focused on Lynch.
