Witty Wife, Better Life-Chapter 587 - 577: Unexpected, Truly Unexpected
Chapter 587: Chapter 577: Unexpected, Truly Unexpected
"Your father-in-law went to the Party School to find some leaders for help. I don’t know whose bad idea that was," Mu Huazhen said with an exasperated look on her face.
Shen Yunfang was truly surprised, wondering why the old Li went to seek help from Party School leaders, "Did he really go to them, and did the leaders even care?" Those leaders are busy with countless things every day, they probably don’t even know who Li Hongjun is. Old Li just went there like that, as if they would help him. Besides, it’s not even a good thing, why would they take the risk to help him?
"They did care. The first time he went, he actually got to meet with a leader. But I heard that when your father-in-law went there, the gatekeeper wouldn’t let him in. The Party School’s dean is a high-profile person; old Li can’t just see him whenever he wants. But he was quite lucky; he was waiting at the gate and happened to see the dean’s car arriving, and there he met the dean," Mu Huazhen added, herself having heard the story later on and not knowing what to say.
"I guess meeting him was of no use, right? Such an obvious case, and the dean isn’t a relative of the Li family, why would he help him?" Shen Yunfang shook her head. It was clearly a thankless task, and unless it was a direct relative, who would want to trouble themselves with this mess?
"When the leader heard about his problem, he rejected him on the spot and politely escorted him out. Then your father-in-law, somehow fixated on the idea, started waiting at the Party School gate daily, causing quite a nuisance for the leader. That’s why the dean called my old Ma and asked him to talk some sense into your father-in-law. What a mess," said Mu Huazhen, shaking her head as she spoke.
"Ah, it’s a case of a drowning man clutching at straws! It seems my father-in-law indeed has true feelings for my mother-in-law," Shen Yunfang sighed.
"Hmph, what’s the use of true feelings? If your father-in-law were sensible, he wouldn’t have let your mother-in-law and your uncle do such a thing. If you ask me, he’s only got himself to blame," Mu Huazhen said bluntly, not fearing Yunfang might get upset and speaking her mind.
Shen Yunfang glanced at Li Hongjun’s side, inwardly agreeing with her sister-in-law’s opinion, but she chose to keep her mouth shut; after all, she needed to save some face for her husband.
"Anyway, your father-in-law won’t be able to keep this up for long. Your mother-in-law’s case should be decided by August." Once the sentence is handed down, everything will settle, and no matter what ideas old Li has, they’ll be useless.
Shen Yunfang nodded, hoping for the best.
After chatting for a while, Ma Liguo checked the time, "It’s almost 7:30; we should leave quickly before that stern-faced nurse comes to chase us out."
"Yeah, that’s fine. Let’s leave it at that for today and come back tomorrow when we have time," Mu Huazhen stood up, "Yunfang, do you need anything? I can bring it to you tomorrow."
"No need, we’ve got everything here. Besides, you and Brother Ma are busy during the day, and there’s no need to come at night; we’re fine here," Shen Yunfang stood up as well.
"You don’t need to worry about that," Mu Huazhen wouldn’t listen to her and stop visiting the hospital. Not to mention the relationship between Ma Liguo and Li Hongjun, just the relationship between the two women meant she had to frequently check if they needed anything. She might not be able to help much, but she could still do some small favors, "I’ll take the kids back with me, and I’ll bring them back to you tomorrow night."
There was nowhere for Shen Yunfang to stay as the caregiver, so the two children definitely couldn’t stay here. Seeing that Yunfang couldn’t let Li Hongjun stay in the hospital by himself, it was clear that the couple would have to look after the children for a while longer.
That’s what Shen Yunfang had in mind, "Alright, we’ll need you to watch the kids for a little while longer. But you really don’t need to come tomorrow night. I need to go home to cook in the afternoon; I can just pick up the kids then."
"Cut it out. Even if I don’t come over, how will the kids get back at night? Stop worrying about it, just take care of your husband, Li Hongjun, that’s enough."
Shen Yunfang was stunned when she heard that; indeed, her words hadn’t made much sense. She smiled and decided not to be polite anymore.
Having returned to the Capital, Li Hongjun certainly wanted to see the children, so Pangpang and Manman still had to come to accompany him for a while each day. And since she had to take care of him at night, it really wouldn’t work without someone to pick up the kids.
Shen Yunfang escorted her family to the hospital entrance. Manman was reluctant to go home with Uncle Ma, clinging to her mother’s thigh at the entrance and not letting go. She didn’t cry, but tears swirled in her eyes, making anyone who saw her heart ache.
Shen Yunfang did her best to coax her, but it was ultimately Pangpang who scolded her sister. Only then did Manman let go, tearfully following Ma Liguo and his wife away.
"Yunfang, don’t worry," Mu Huazhen comforted Shen Yunfang while walking at the back. "Children are all like this. She’ll be fine once she can’t see you for a while."
Shen Yunfang watched Manman being carried by Ma Liguo, tears falling, and felt her heart being cut like with a knife. One can never really understand this feeling unless one is a mother.
"Mmm, it’s okay, you better go now; they are all waiting for you," Shen Yunfang blinked her eyes, thinking that at her age, it would be embarrassing if she also started dropping "golden beans" like her daughter.
"Alright, I’ll leave then," Mu Huazhen spotted the bus arriving from afar and hurriedly ran a few steps to catch up with the group.
Shen Yunfang stood at the entrance until she saw them all get on the bus, and then she dragged her weary self into the inpatient department. Before entering the ward, she braced herself, squeezing out a smile, afraid that Li Hongjun would feel bad if he saw her like this.
Upon entering the ward and seeing Li Hongjun still sitting on the hospital bed, Shen Yunfang quickly approached. "You’ve been sitting for quite a while. Let me help you lie down and rest."
Li Hongjun saw his wife’s reddened eyes and knew what had happened. As there were others in the room, he couldn’t do much, so he took his wife’s hand and whispered, "Actually, I’m pretty much alright now. Why don’t you go home and check on the kids?"
"No way, you call this being fine?" Shen Yunfang immediately frowned and started lecturing, "If you’re really worried about the kids or me, you’d better heal properly. When you can get up or walk on your own, then I’ll stop worrying."
"Yeah, okay, watch my performance. I promise to heal properly and eat well. In no more than ten days, I’ll certainly be fully recovered," Li Hongjun coaxed his wife.
Ah, there was still a third wheel around, so of course he couldn’t speak loudly. He was a man, after all, and needed to maintain his dignity outside.
"You, all talk and no action, just lie down and heal properly," Shen Yunfang said, not amused.
"Yes, following the leader’s orders," Li Hongjun replied as his wife helped him to lie down. "Oh yeah, that stern-faced nurse came by again."
"What, did she actually come to chase people away again?" Shen Yunfang asked, somewhat amused.
"Not sure about that, but she did inform us that we can rent beds for caregivers. I asked about it; renting a bed costs one yuan per day and is not included in the hospitalization fees, meaning it can’t be reimbursed. The nurse said she still had a few beds left. If we wanted to rent one, we’d better hurry before they’re all gone. I directly told her to reserve one for us."
