Why Am I a Priestess When I Reach the Maximum Level?-Chapter 78[Vol. 6] - An Unexpected Reunion
[Vol. 6] Chapter 78: An Unexpected Reunion
“The Twelve Peaks…”
The young priestess walked thoughtfully for a moment before looking up and asking,
“How many of these twelve peaks are actually climbable? I remember the place connected to that Western Origin Spirit Maiden… It should be called Peach Blossom Peak, right?”
Ling Feng smiled and nodded, adding,
“From what I know, only three of the twelve peaks on Cangyun Mountain are friendly to outsiders. The rest are neutral or hostile. Coincidentally, the master of Peach Blossom Peak is one of the friendly ones.”
“That’s right,” Murong Yun said. “Peach Blossom Peak is one of the most famous tourist spots in the Cangyun Mountain area. I had the privilege of visiting it a few years ago, and it really is beautiful.”
As they spoke, the group finally entered the bustling town, which was so large it couldn’t even be called a town anymore. They walked along the busy streets, even as night fell and people continued to come and go.
“Milady, it looks like the shops here have everything we might need. Should we buy some supplies and prepare? To be honest, I grew up in the mountains, but a legendary place like Cangyun Mountain is bound to be different. The environment at the top will be very different from the ground, so it’s probably best if we…”
At Bai’er’s question, Ling Feng, who was more knowledgeable in theory than practice, paused and quickly turned to Murong Yun, as if passing the question like a baton.
“Ahem, Mr. Murong, what do you think?”
Murong Yun, the only one with actual experience, nodded.
“Of course, preparation is necessary, and it’s very important. Otherwise, the town at the foot of the mountain wouldn’t have developed to this extent.”
“But before that, we need to clarify our specific goal and prepare accordingly. Although the twelve peaks are all part of Cangyun Mountain, the situation on each peak is very different due to the powerful peak masters. Their influence shapes each area in its own way…”
After a brief pause, he continued.
“This isn’t a simple matter. My suggestion is that we find an inn and settle in first, then discuss things in more detail. After all…”
The middle-aged man in white glanced around with a meaningful look before falling silent. The three women nodded slightly, and each fell silent in response.
After deciding, the group went to the side of the road and found a decent-looking inn named [Welcome Guest Residence], where they rented four rooms.
Soon after, Violet stepped out of the [Welcome Guest Residence] alone.
She walked down the town’s street but didn’t stop at any of the stalls selling raw or cooked food, tools, or flashy but ultimately useless items aimed at tricking clueless tourists. Nor did she enter any of the more serious stores to shop, completely ignoring the enthusiastic sellers offering guidebooks or informational pamphlets.

She walked with purpose, growing faster as she went. Before long, she left the town behind and entered the more remote forest at the foot of Cangyun Mountain, heading toward the surrounding area.
When she was far enough from the town that no one was in sight, she suddenly stopped and, without turning around, spoke.
“It’s been long enough, hasn’t it? You’ve been following me this whole time… aren’t you going to show yourself?”
Her voice drifted into the night breeze, yet the surroundings remained eerily quiet. Aside from the soft rustling of leaves and shrubs stirred by the wind, there was no other sound.
Seeing this, Violet could only shake her head helplessly.
“Hey, hey, do you really think I’m so dull that I wouldn’t notice I’m being followed? Or did you think I came all the way out here at night just to have a private chat with the forest?”
She finally turned around, her silver-blue eyes gleaming, but instead of focusing on the shadows of the trees or the bushes, she fixed her gaze on a nearby patch of flat ground.
“Alright, I’m on a tight schedule and don’t have time for you to play hide and seek. I’ll give you five seconds.”
“Five…”
Just as Violet began counting down, the ground where her gaze had landed suddenly shifted, and a shadowy figure quickly emerged from the soil, tumbling and scrambling out.
“Wait, wait, wait! Please, don’t hurt me! I’m… I’m not a bad yokai!!!”
The figure’s desperate cry drew Violet’s attention, and she gave a slight nod.
“…So it’s you.”
It was a small girl, no older than about ten years old in height, with black-grey hair and two half-circular beast ears atop her head. She wore a simple, beast-fur-like coat, but the lower half of her legs and feet were exposed. A short tail, no longer than an adult’s forearm, was hidden behind her. Her claws were sharp and slender, with dark marks left from digging into the soil.
There was no doubt she was a yokai, and if she had a contract with a human, she would be considered a spirit pet.
The little yokai’s power was not great, as evidenced by the beast ears and short tail still on her body, as well as the crude, fur-based outfit.
And Violet actually knew her.
Seeing the little yokai acting both nervous and eager to approach, the priestess smiled and refrained from attacking the stalker.
“Little Mole… is it okay to call you that? I didn’t expect to run into you here again. We sure are fate’s playthings.”
The little girl blinked, then her expression brightened with joy.
“So the great immortal still remembers little me!”
“My memory isn’t that bad…” Violet replied, with a hint of amusement.
If that were the case, Violet wouldn’t have allowed the little yokai to follow them from the moment they entered the town. She knew right away that someone had been secretly following them, but couldn’t yet figure out the purpose of the stalker. Also, bumping into the little mole spirit, who she had some brief interactions with in Yangyuan City, was quite unexpected for Violet.
“So, how did you end up in Xiangshou County and near Cangyun Mountain? And what exactly do you want with me?”
If it was just a friendly reunion, there would have been no need for the Mole Spirit to sneak around and hide while tracking them. She could have appeared openly and met with Violet and the others. Apart from Violet, Ling Feng and Bai’er also knew her and would not have shown much hostility.
But since the Mole Spirit was acting this way, it meant she didn’t want, or perhaps couldn’t afford, to let others know about her contact with Violet and the others. She seemed to have some hidden reason for being so secretive.
Although Violet had anticipated this, the little yokai’s behavior still caught her off guard.
After hesitating and pondering for a moment, the Mole Spirit seemed to make up her mind. Suddenly, she dropped to her knees, crying as she begged Violet.
“Immortal! Please, Great Immortal, have mercy! Please, save us!!”
“…?”
After the initial surprise, Violet quickly calmed down, raised an eyebrow, and glanced in a certain direction out of the corner of her eye. She spoke in a neutral tone.
“Don’t get so worked up. Explain everything clearly, and only then will I consider whether I should help.”
“Yes… Immortal, it’s like this…”
The Mole Spirit wiped away her tears with a dirty hand, looking pitiful as she began to explain.
It turned out that the Mole Spirit was originally a creature living near Cangyun Mountain.
There were many different kinds of yokai, and although they didn’t always form organized groups, some did band together based on their habits and lifestyles, creating factions or gangs.
In these groups, bigger yokai protected the smaller ones, and in return, the smaller yokai would give part of their food or resources to the larger yokai or do tasks for them. It was a mutual benefit.
The Mole Spirit was no different.
Her group was called the [Mole Gang], a gang made up of hundreds of Mole Spirits or similar creatures.
The leader was known as the [Mole King], a powerful yokai with centuries of cultivation and immense strength. The Mole Gang had always followed their leader, and in the yokai world of Xiangshou County, they had a small but notable reputation.
