Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 139: Discovering Cecilia Quincy
Despite Assistant Harris’s unease, he still carried out his duties efficiently.
He first reached out to the police station, and then arranged for someone to give Mr. Sommers a call to put some pressure on him. As a result, although Haylie Sommers was released without charge that very day, she was immediately taken away by The Sommers Family and was strictly forbidden from bothering Elara Hale again.
Haylie Sommers couldn’t swallow this grievance and argued with her father, "That bitch is full of tricks. I just wanted to scare her a bit, but she dared to call the police. Next time, I’ll make her regret it immensely!"
Mr. Sommers, enraged, slapped her. "Haven’t you caused enough trouble? Our family was already shamed because of you, and you still want to stir up more chaos? I’m telling you, you are not to mess with Elara Hale again—there are people backing her, and she isn’t so simple! If you don’t want the entire Sommers Family to be implicated, behave, or I’ll lock you up!"
Haylie Sommers held her face, looking at her father in disbelief.
Was this still the father who always doted on her?
Did Elara Hale have backing? Isn’t her biggest support the Jacobs Family? Mason Jacobs is her ex-husband, but he’s just an ex-husband! He wouldn’t care about her after their divorce!
Mr. Sommers knew his daughter all too well. She was his only child, spoiled from a young age. Her usual arrogance was one thing, but even after such a scandal, he was still actively arranging another match for her. If the Dalton Family wasn’t suitable, he’d find another, but the Sommers Family certainly couldn’t provoke the wrong people.
"In any case, don’t cause trouble with that Elara Hale again. Zara Dalton is keeping a low profile, and the Dalton Family hasn’t given a statement. Neglecting you like this, the Sommers Family doesn’t need such a son-in-law," Mr. Sommers said sternly, "I’ll find you another suitable match. With the Sommers Family behind you, even at the worst, you won’t struggle in Northgarde. Do you understand?"
Haylie Sommers held her face and nodded silently.
But she didn’t understand why the prestigious Sommers Family was so eager to marry her off just because of a scandal.
Ultimately, the family felt she had disgraced their name and wanted to sacrifice her to maintain their reputation. Otherwise, her father would be striving to find her a better match, not pushing her into a lower-ranking wealthy family.
She bit her lip in humiliation. It wasn’t until her father left that she angrily swept everything off the table!
The maid was terrified, standing a short distance away, trembling. "Miss..."
Haylie Sommers glared at her menacingly. "Why are you just standing there? Clean this up right now!"
The maid approached cautiously. Seeing her still wearing gloves, Haylie’s eyes turned malicious. "Who told you to wear gloves? Take them off!"
Take off the gloves?
The maid looked at the shards all over the floor, a flash of fear in her eyes, but she gritted her teeth, took off the gloves, and began picking up the pieces with her bare hands.
In a moment of carelessness, she cut her hand on the shards.
Haylie Sommers watched this, her mood lifted, satisfied as she saw the maid’s hands bleeding profusely from multiple cuts. She snorted in satisfaction and turned to go upstairs.
Half an hour later, she came downstairs in a light yellow dress, wearing nude flats, her hair flowing and her makeup flawlessly done.
Though she usually frequented bars and clubs, always dressing like a little delinquent despite not having graduated from college, she rarely dressed so... innocent.
Yes, innocent.
She was naturally pretty, and dressed like this, she finally bore some resemblance to a university student.
Upon closer inspection, her deliberately drawn downturned eyes with a doe-like innocence resembled Cecilia Quincy a bit.
She was pleased with her appearance and left the house under the maid’s awestruck gaze.
Although her father said he’d find a good marriage match for her, after Zara Dalton’s incident, she no longer wanted to leave her fate in someone else’s hands.
She didn’t want to marry beneath her; if she were to marry, it would be into Northgarde’s highest society.
She intended to meet Zayne Warner and make one final attempt.
Being humiliated by those thugs wasn’t her fault, and Zayne Warner was a gentleman. Perhaps if she talked to him sincerely, he’d accept her.
Haylie Sommers knew Zayne Warner was fond of Cecilia Quincy; everyone in high society knew after that photo circulated. But she didn’t value Cecilia as a threat—an already married woman with her mind on Mason Jacobs. Even if Zayne Warner liked her, what could come of it?
Would Cecilia really leave Mason Jacobs for Zayne Warner? Even if she wanted to, would The Warner Family accept a woman with no background and a second marriage?
As if she were dreaming.
This time, Haylie purposefully wore makeup like Cecilia’s, hoping to earn a shred more affection from Zayne Warner.
Confidently, Haylie Sommers drove to Zayne Warner’s private apartment.
She discovered this place with much effort, knowing Zayne often stayed here when he had free time. This apartment was like his private space; even his parents might not know about it.
She planned to wait at the door, going for that pitiful and helpless look. If luck was on her side, she might even see Zayne Warner today.
Even if she wasn’t lucky, by waiting a few more days, she was sure she’d catch him sooner or later.
However, as she stood by Zayne Warner’s apartment door, she unexpectedly heard a woman’s voice from inside!
Her expression changed. Could Zayne Warner have a girlfriend? Impossible, she hadn’t heard a peep about it.
Haylie hurriedly pressed her ear against the door, but she couldn’t hear any more sounds.
Zayne Warner’s voice wasn’t heard either.
Haylie pressed her lips together, her eyes darkening. No matter who the woman inside was, she couldn’t let her become an obstacle.
She had to see which little vixen dared to scheme for the man she desired!
Haylie raised her hand and knocked on the door.
Hearing nothing, she continued knocking persistently.
Finally, she heard a soft female voice from inside, "Senior Warner, are you done with your shower? It seems someone is looking for you outside."
A man’s voice was faintly audible, "Might be the management. I’m nearly done."
Haylie’s face turned sour. She pounded harder on the door, "Bang, bang, bang!"
After over ten minutes, footsteps finally echoed inside, and soon, the door was pulled open from within. Zayne Warner stood at the entrance in casual home wear, wiping his wet hair with a towel.
He was visibly surprised to see Haylie, and in the next moment, he moved slightly to the side, just enough to block the figure behind him.
Despite his quick reaction, Haylie still caught a glimpse.
The person in Zayne Warner’s room was Cecilia Quincy! Mason Jacobs’s wife!
Her eyes were blazing with anger, "Why are you two... why are you two together? Zayne Warner, you and her... between you two..."
She couldn’t believe it, this was Zayne Warner, the most honest, kind, and selfless successor of The Warner Family! One was a principled second-generation officer, and the other was the mistress-turned-madam of the Jacobs Family. How could they!
Zayne Warner frowned and quickly explained, "You’ve got it wrong, Cece is just staying with me for a few days. There’s nothing between us."
He didn’t notice the flash of humiliation on Cecilia Quincy’s face when he said this.
They had been living together in this apartment for nearly two weeks, and during these two weeks, she had tried more than once to offer herself, but Zayne Warner... would not comply. He said he didn’t want to take advantage of her, even though she had already confessed her feelings to him!
And now he’s so eager to explain to an outsider... does he have no feelings for her at all? But if that’s the case, then why did he look so heartbroken when he found out she’d been violated, and why would he go against the Jacobs Family to help her when he knew Mason was torturing her?
Cecilia couldn’t figure it out, and her resentment towards Haylie Sommers grew a bit more. Having also experienced misfortune, no one knew Haylie’s intentions better than she did.
Yet she could only remain hidden, not even daring to confront Haylie Sommers.
After hearing Zayne Warner’s explanation, Haylie Sommers had a hint of irony in her eyes; a single man and woman living under the same roof, showering and dressing so casually, claiming that nothing happened—she wouldn’t believe it even if she were beaten to death!
She stared intently behind Zayne Warner. Was Cecilia Quincy seeking out Zayne because Mason didn’t want her anymore? It was well-known that Mason had a cleanliness obsession with women; it seemed true.
Did Mason know that his wife was living with another man? In families like the Jacobs Family, marriage and divorce are big deals. There hadn’t been any news of Mason getting a divorce recently.
Would Mason allow his wife to cheat on him in their country?
Haylie Sommers’ eyes flickered with various emotions before she finally gave Zayne Warner a bitter smile, "Actually, I came to find you today because I wanted to say something to you, but now... it seems unnecessary."
She smiled and said, "I won’t disturb you two, I’m leaving."
She waved to Zayne Warner and turned to leave.
Cecilia Quincy watched Haylie Sommers enter the elevator, bit her lip lightly, and asked softly, "Senior Warner, will she tell others about me?"
Zayne Warner shook his head, "She shouldn’t, she’s liked me for a long time, and I was about to get engaged to her, but that incident happened..."
He suddenly stopped mid-sentence, remembering that Cecilia Quincy was also a victim of that incident, he carefully said, "Cece, I didn’t mean it like that. What I mean is, she probably feels unwilling about the broken engagement and came to persuade me to change my mind."
Actually, Cecilia Quincy didn’t think that Haylie would tell the Dalton Family about this. After all, Haylie became like this because of Rosalind Jacobs. She probably never wanted to speak to Rosalind again in this lifetime.
Cecilia continued to bite her lip, "Then you... will you change your mind?"
Zayne Warner quickly shook his head, his eyes widened, "Cece, you know my heart is... all on you, it’s impossible..."
Moreover, how could his family allow a woman who had been humiliated to enter their door?
But saying this would hurt Cecilia Quincy’s self-esteem, so he didn’t make it clear.
Cecilia’s eyes lowered gently, her eyelashes trembling like butterfly wings. She bit her lip, seeming to make up her mind, and looked tearfully at Zayne Warner.
"Senior Warner, if... if you’re willing, I can... Mason treated me like this, I won’t love him anymore. You saved me, your place in my heart is unlike anyone else..."
She thought she had spoken very moving words, and with her deliberate expression and actions, Zayne Warner would certainly feel a sense of pity.
But to her surprise, Zayne Warner placed the semi-wet towel on her shoulder and said gently, "What silly words. In my heart, you are forever a pure and flawless angel, how could I rashly reach out to you."
He placed his hands on her shoulders, as if making a promise, "Cece, don’t worry, once this storm passes, I’ll definitely help you divorce Mason, afterwards you’ll be completely free, able to choose someone you love to grow old with."
What about you?
This question rotated at Cecilia’s lips, but she couldn’t ask it, afraid the answer wasn’t what she wanted...
Why? Clearly, he’s so willing to protect her, clearly, he loves her dearly.
Why does he back down?
Cecilia couldn’t understand it no matter how hard she thought.
Luckily, there was still time. She had only been there for two weeks. If two weeks was too short, then how about two months? Two years?
Zayne Warner couldn’t always restrain himself.
The two held their thoughts, pretending everything was fine as they closed the door.
After Haylie Sommers went downstairs, she stood at the entrance of the apartment for a moment to calm herself, then pulled out her phone and called Rosalind Jacobs.
Rosalind sounded both surprised and delighted, "Haylie... Haylie, you’ve finally contacted me."
With a cold expression and her fingers digging into her palms, Haylie ignored Rosalind’s words and asked, "Did you know Cecilia Quincy is living with Zayne Warner? Does your brother know?"
"What?" Rosalind’s voice was sharp and incredulous, "She’s at the Warner’s? No wonder my brother searched all over Northgarde but couldn’t find her, she’s actually at the Warner’s? Doesn’t the Warner Family find it disgraceful? She’s my brother’s wife!"
Haylie raised an eyebrow, "So you didn’t know, let me give you this good news for free—Haylie is shacking up at Zayne Warner’s private residence, Crestview Apartments, 17th floor, Room 03 on Corwin Avenue."
"Haylie, thank you for telling me this, otherwise we’d still be at her mercy," Rosalind said gratefully, "Do you have time for tea this afternoon? I know of a newly opened shop..."
"I’m not free." Haylie said, and then hung up.
On the other end, looking at her abruptly disconnected phone, Rosalind gritted her teeth, a hint of resentment flashing in her eyes.
What a piece of work, just because she relied on The Sommers Family’s capital, she repeatedly flaunted in front of her.
She had already reached out for reconciliation, but this woman had no appreciation, no recognition!
Rosalind quickly suppressed the anger and turned around, heading up to the second floor, knocking on the study’s door.
Mason’s voice called from inside, "What’s up?"
Rosalind quickly said, "Brother, I have good news for you."
Inside, there was a pause, then the voice said, "Come in." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Rosalind quickly pushed the door open and went inside.
It was an overcast day. The study was dimly lit, with a single faint lamp, casting the room in shadow. Mason sat with his back to the light behind a desk, like a shadowy specter, and looked up, "What good news?"
