Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Car Accident

Thea Lynch was cautious this time. She opened it and glanced inside to make sure it was for her aunt before accepting it.

"Okay, I’ll take it to Auntie when I go back on Saturday."

There was no other way; the security at the compound was indeed strict. It’s just a favor, nothing more.

"Thanks for the trouble."

"No problem." Thea Lynch had a headache; her tone was much more rigid than usual, making it hard to continue the conversation.

Norbert Rhodes noticed it and asked cautiously, "Are you... coming down with a cold? Your voice sounds a bit severe."

Thea Lynch nodded, "I’m not feeling well, I’m heading back."

"Let me take you home."

Seeing her walking unsteadily, Norbert hesitated but caught up with her.

Thea instinctively wanted to refuse. Norbert spoke before she could, "I’ll just accompany you to the neighborhood; you can pretend I’m not there."

"..." Thea Lynch didn’t speak again.

Probably knowing she wasn’t feeling well, Norbert didn’t try to start a conversation on the way, unlike before. He just followed her silently. When they crossed the street, he reached out to hold her sleeve, reminding her to watch out for cars.

Downstairs, Thea thanked him, "I’m here, you should head back."

"Ah, okay." Norbert was taken aback by her smile. As she almost disappeared into the entrance, he hurriedly called out, "Thea..."

"Is there something else?" Thea turned slightly.

"You..." Norbert had a lot to say but didn’t know where to start.

"What do you want to say?"

Thea’s patience ran out, "If there’s nothing, I’m going up."

"Wait!" Norbert took a few steps forward, somewhat urgently, "I have a question."

Looking into each other’s eyes, Thea half-closed her eyes, tiredly watching him. Even so, she was still so elegant and cold, like a white rose swaying in the icy wind.

Norbert’s hands in his pockets clenched tightly, "You said before you liked someone. Is that person someone I know?"

As soon as he said it, Thea, who had been drowsy, suddenly looked up.

Because of the distance, Norbert didn’t see the subtle change in her eyes and continued talking to himself, "I think I know who you’re talking about."

"..." Thea’s gaze toward him changed, "Say it."

She didn’t know what Norbert was up to; maybe he wanted to trick her into speaking.

"Is it..." Norbert hesitated, unsure if he should say it. After pausing, he finally gritted his teeth and said the name, "Is it Ian Preston?"

Thea’s hand gripping the door handle turned white, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes.

But her face showed no hint of disturbance, looking perfectly normal, "Don’t you know what my relationship with Ian is? I call him third brother, didn’t you know? Aren’t you afraid of getting beaten for saying this?" 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Listening closely, her tone still couldn’t hide it, as chill as the night breeze.

Norbert was at a loss for words.

"I know, but you aren’t blood-related siblings. You grew up together, right? It’s okay to like each other."

His words assumed she indeed liked Ian Preston.

Although it was initially just an excuse to reject him, she did like Ian Preston.

In fact, all these years, she had only liked Ian Preston.

But the thing is, aside from her, only Sean Bell knew about this.

Even Ian Preston himself didn’t know.

Sean Bell was the only one clearly aware of her feelings for Ian.

So how did Norbert know...

From his tone, it didn’t seem like a casual guess.

After all, when it comes to relationships, Ian isn’t her only wealthy brother. To outsiders, her working at Silas Cheney’s company upon her return indicates she would be closer to Silas.

If guessing, Ian wouldn’t be the first choice.

"So, the one you like is..."

Thea frowned, coldly interrupting him, "It’s not."

"Who I like doesn’t need to be reported to you. I’ll pretend I didn’t hear this today. If you spread it, Ian won’t let you off."

"And one more time, I have no intention of dating, so don’t waste your time on me."

——

Back in her room, Thea took some medicine and rested on the sofa.

In her mind, Norbert’s words kept replaying.

How could he possibly guess it was Ian?

Did Sean Bell let something slip?

Sean Bell was unpredictable, but if he were to tell someone, it should have been Ian, not some outsider.

Besides, he and Norbert had no connection.

Thea didn’t dwell on it for long. After a quick wash, she went to bed early.

That night, due to the medication, she slept heavily. She didn’t even hear the morning alarm and almost arrived late for work.

Their work hours were quite flexible now, so being late wasn’t a big issue, but there was an important meeting in the morning that she had to attend.

The meeting lasted until noon. Thea spent the entire morning in the meeting, and after it ended, she went to the canteen with Foreman Chandler and others to eat.

After getting her food, she found an empty seat and started checking her WeChat messages.

During the meeting, her phone was on silent and stayed in her pocket the whole time.

There wasn’t anything important, just some work-related minor matters. She replied to each one and finally opened their company group chat.

A group chat below was being constantly updated, causing Thea to accidentally click into it.

She squinted her eyes, taking a while to see clearly what group chat it was.

Apparently, it was from last month when Silas Cheney added her to it.

There weren’t many people in it, just about fifty or so. Silas told her they were all affluent scions of Coronet, at least third-generation wealthy. He said she could seek some fun there when she was free and maybe have dinner with someone she liked.

Since joining the group, she hadn’t really checked the messages or spoken there.

The members appeared quite active, sending messages one after another. It took her a while to figure out what they were discussing.

"Really, I saw the photos. That kid from the Rhodes Family is badly injured."

"Are there any pictures? Share them."

"[Image][Image]"

"Wow, it looks like a serious crash. Really unlucky."

Seeing the words "The Rhodes Family" made Thea frown. Out of instinct, she clicked on the photos.

They were photos from a car accident scene, and she recognized the car—it was Norbert’s.

From the looks of it, it was nighttime. He seemed fine when they met last night...

Thea scrolled through the group chat and saw that it was indeed from last night’s accident. Norbert was lucky, just getting a leg injury without any life-threatening conditions.

She already had a significant aversion to car accidents. After confirming he was fine several times, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Just as she was about to exit, someone in the group suddenly said, "Breaking news! Do you know who else was in the collision with Norbert?"
