When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?-Chapter 135: Initiative
At the corner of the staircase, the boy’s steps, while climbing, just came to a halt, and then, he slowly lifted his head.
In the lingering darkness of the night, the girl standing at the end of the stairs shone brightly as she quietly gazed back at him.
The night breeze was cool.
But Pei Yan’s heart surged with scalding heat.
He looked into her eyes, dark and deep, carrying a warmth hotter than the summer sun, pushing her heartbeat to its zenith.
Jiang Shuyao’s eyes darted away in panic, gripping her cellphone tightly, pretending to be calm as she descended the steps.
She came to him, her voice soft, "I forgot my phone in the classroom and only just retrieved it."
The girl spoke without looking at him, but the boy’s breath was very, very close to her.
Unconsciously, Pei Yan reached out his long arm and pulled her fiercely into his embrace.
Jiang Shuyao’s tender body stiffened slightly, not out of resistance, but out of nervousness.
He was no less perturbed, and he lowered his head to kiss the top of her hair, his voice husky, "Next time you confess to your man, don’t do it in front of others."
Jiang Shuyao lifted her head from his chest, with stardust in her eyes, "You heard what I said just now?"
She had only tried it on a whim, not expecting him to really hear it.
Her cheeks were tinged with a slight red from happiness.
Pei Yan watched her silly smile without uttering a sound.
In the dimly lit corridor, he held the girl’s soft hand and led her toward the outside of Qinyuan Building.
Tonight, the campus was especially beautiful.
To bid farewell to the graduating students, the trees on both sides of the artificial lake were hung with colorful, twinkling stars.
Their dazzling colors, reflected in the shimmering water, were dreamy and romantic, making the night air clean and tender.
Jiang Shuyao suddenly suggested, "The buses have stopped running at this hour, let’s walk back."
From Yunzhong to Yasong Residence, with Pei Yan’s pace, it would take at most half an hour.
But with a tag-along tonight, it might take twice as long.
Pei Yan’s profile was cold, but his eyes were gentle, "Okay, as you wish."
The night of the college entrance exam’s end.
Jiang Shuyao, led by Pei Yan, walked out of that gate for the first time without any restraint.
At the intersection with the flowing traffic, they both intuitively turned around to look at the majestic school gate behind them.
The night wind fluttered, gently lifting the wispy hair on Jiang Shuyao’s cheeks, obscuring her bright eyes and elegant brows.
From this moment, they were truly graduating.
Yunzhong, farewell.
Thank you for giving me the courage here and the person I like.
During the evening party, Jiang Shuyao didn’t eat much.
Passing by 85°C, Pei Yan went in to queue up, buying her two portions of mousse cake.
On the long night street, the silhouette of the boy in a black shirt was tall and straight.
Jiang Shuyao stood under the streetlight, her smile brimming as she watched him approach step by step.
The girl really loved to smile tonight.
Smiling so much it made someone’s heart itch, wrestling on the edge of agitation and sin each time.
Pei Yan handed her the cake and squatted down in front of her, his throat tight, "Get on, I’ll carry you back."
His intentions were pure, and there was no trace of any other emotion in his voice.
Jiang Shuyao bit her lip, her face flushed as she leaned on his back, her arms softly circling his neck.
The boy had broad, powerful shoulders.
But his steps were slower than she had imagined.
She bowed her head down and asked him in a whisper, "Are you hungry?"
Her breath was sweet.
The breath that sprayed on his ear carried a faint scent of alcohol amidst its silkiness.
Pei Yan’s brow slightly furrowed, "Did you drink?"
In Rong City’s June, the night breeze was gentle with neither the chirping of insects nor the singing of cicadas.
That year, he was nineteen, and she was eighteen.
The girl’s body was soft, but the youth’s back was broad and hard.
She nodded gently, "All the girls in the class drank, just a little bit, just a tiny bit."
With teachers around, they couldn’t have more if they wanted to.
Because she had been drinking, the girl’s behavior tonight was now explainable.
Pei Yan’s eyes deepened, and a rather shameless thought came to mind.
He was looking forward to the possibility that, someday in the future, when his princess had too much to drink, what she might do to him.
Would she strip off his clothes?
Or exhaust him to death?
Jiang Shuyao had no idea what the devil was thinking.
She merely squinted quietly ahead, chin resting on his shoulder, her nose filled with his scent.
It was a subtle body odor, not unpleasant, but rather the slow release of male hormones.
She remembered when she first transferred to Yunzhong, Pei Yan’s clothes often had the scent of wormwood.
Later, Uncle Li told her that the young master had trouble sleeping at night and relied on incense to help him fall asleep.
She guessed it must be related to his illness.
But she didn’t know when that faint scent of wormwood on him had disappeared.
Did that mean his illness was already cured?
Halfway through the journey, Jiang Shuyao said she wanted to get down and walk by herself; she had a craving for cake and wanted some.
Pei Yan carried her without stopping, not showing the slightest sign of fatigue.
He slightly turned his head and told her, "There’s a small spoon inside, I’ll carry you, it won’t fall off."
A long time ago, he had been just as gentle with her as he was now.
But she had realized it much later.
Fortunately, it was not too late.
Jiang Shuyao had never tried eating on someone’s back before. She carefully opened the cake box, scooped out a small piece with the little spoon, and slowly brought it to her mouth.
The chilly mango flavor was sweet to the heart.
The girl’s eyes curved in contentment, extremely satisfied.
Pei Yan heard her laugh, his lips curling into an almost imperceptible smile.
The occasional passerby cast an envious glance at the two of them, with the young boy carrying the girl down the street—probably the most delightful sight of the season.
They were unfettered by social ties, unweathered by the world’s blizzards and hailstorms.
Everything, everything was just the most beautiful beginning.
During the walk, the girl talked an unusual amount.
Most of the time, it was her speaking. Pei Yan, looking ahead with even strides, silently listened and quietly smiled.
As they approached the gates of Yasong Residence, Jiang Shuyao asked him softly, "Are you hungry? This cake is really tasty. Can I feed you a bite?"
The girl’s dewy eyes, from an angle he couldn’t see, filled with a faint shyness.
Her heart was pounding.
Until she heard him say, "Okay," Jiang Shuyao tremulously brought the cake to his mouth.
Taking advantage of Pei Yan’s distraction, she blushed and quickly planted a soft kiss on his resolute cheek.
In haste, the little spoonful of cake touched the corner of his lips just right.
With the night breeze brushing against his face, Pei Yan, who had been walking steadily, suddenly stopped.
The soft, warm, lingering breaths of the girl reminded him that the touch from a moment ago was no illusion.
Jiang Shuyao put away the cake and buried her head again, wrapping her arms around his neck.
The next instant, within her thumping heartbeat, she saw Pei Yan lightly pursing his lips, licking the little bit of cream into his mouth.
He remained in that pose for quite some time.
After a while, Pei Yan began to walk on, carrying her.
Walking, walking, his steps sped up as he slowly started to run.
With the breeze past their ears, and through his firm back, all that was left between them, aside from their heartbeats, was his uncontrollable, hearty laughter.
"Jiang Shuyao!" he called out her name while laughing.
The girl spread her arms wide and loudly replied, "I’m here!"
"I like you!"
"What did you say? I didn’t hear clearly."
"Jiang Shuyao, I said I like you!"
"..."
The young man ran with her on his back through the night wind.
The girl giggled non-stop, her voice as merry as a lark singing in the forest.
