When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 2 - 5 Minutes, Wash Yourself Clean
That night, Luna Axton left the hospital. Weighed down by enormous medical bills, she couldn’t sleep and took on a part-time job as a designated driver.
She was glad she had taken advantage of the break after her college entrance exams to get her driver’s license, giving her another way to earn money.
"Five minutes. Get yourself clean."
The man’s voice was hoarse and unsteady. His face was flushed, and his sharp brows were tightly knitted in a struggle for self-control.
Luna Axton turned, stood at the shower door, and bit her lip as she took off her reflective work vest. Her underwear and bra lay in a soft pile to the side. As her pale, delicate feet touched the tile floor, a chill shot straight to her heart.
She shivered, and goosebumps prickled all over her arms.
The water ran hot instantly. She squeezed out some shower gel and quickly washed her own scent away. The man’s shower gel had an indescribable fragrance—overpowering and cold.
Just as she finished her shower and was about to wrap herself in a towel...
The man suddenly pushed the door open, bringing a gust of cold air with him. Startled, Luna Axton instinctively covered her chest and crouched on the floor.
The corners of the man’s eyes were red, his gaze hazy, and his breathing ragged. The moment he entered, he started taking off his jacket and loosening his tie.
Terrified by the scene before her, Luna Axton bolted out before the bathroom door could close, jumped onto the bed, and wrapped herself tightly in the covers.
Even bundled in the quilt, she still felt cold, her body trembling uncontrollably.
The man emerged from the bathroom shortly after. With a click, the room was plunged into darkness.
The darkness was like a vast net, trapping her within it.
Fear spread through Luna Axton’s heart. She subconsciously reached out, trying to grab onto something for a sense of security.
Driven by the drug, all the man’s actions were purely instinctual.
Afterward, the man got up and went to the bathroom, leaving the broken, pitiful girl to weep silently on the bed.
When the man came out again, he was wearing a bathrobe and holding his phone. He exuded the fresh scent of a recent shower, but his entire demeanor was even colder than before.
"Account number."
"My phone is in my clothes pocket."
The man lifted his gaze to her, his eyes sharp.
Luna Axton threw back the covers and hunched over as she went into the bathroom. She hastily threw on her clothes, found her bank account number in her bank app, and presented it to the man with both hands.
As soon as she saw the transaction notification, Luna Axton quickly left on her small electric scooter, the one she used for her designated driving job.
After hearing what Luna Axton had to say, Joy Coleman felt a tightness in her chest, a mixture of anger and heartache.
But Luna Axton comforted her instead. "Joy, it’s really okay."
Having said all that, Luna Axton’s emotions had settled. She didn’t want Joy to worry. Since she’d made the decision, she has to see it through.
"There’s a district Women’s and Children’s Health Center near the Hepatology Hospital. They should be able to do it. I’ll go for a consultation myself tomorrow. You should go back to work."
But Joy adamantly refused. Her best friend had just been taken away in an ambulance; how could she possibly be in the mood to work?
"I took a half-day off. I’ll go with you to visit Mrs. Axton first, and then we’ll go to the hospital together."
Luna Axton couldn’t refuse, and her eyes reddened again. Life kept hitting her with one blow after another, but thankfully, she had a good friend like Joy to help her heal each time.
When they arrived at the hospital, a nurse was administering an IV drip of nutrients to the sleeping Jenna Axton.
Due to gastric fundal varices and stomach bleeding, Jenna Axton hadn’t been able to eat solid food for a long time and was being sustained entirely by the IV drip.
Because of her cryptogenic cirrhosis, Jenna Axton’s exposed skin was sallow and shiny, and her stomach was slightly swollen beneath the blanket.
Luna Axton turned away to wipe her tears.
She can’t cry! She can’t let Mom worry! And she can’t let her know that she’s about to discard a small life.
While Jenna Axton was asleep, the two of them hurried to the Women’s and Children’s Health Center to register and get the check-up done.
In their rush, they managed to schedule the pregnancy termination surgery for three days later, just before the doctor’s office closed for the day.
"Luna, you need to eat more if you can. You’re too thin. The surgery will take a toll on your body, and you’ll need to rest and recover afterward."
The thought of frail Luna having to endure the pain of surgery made Joy Coleman’s heart ache.
Now that the surgery was scheduled, no matter how reluctant Luna Axton felt, she had to steel her heart.
"I know." Luna Axton waved the pre-op instruction sheet in her hand, trying not to think about what was making her sad. "I’m a medical student, you know. I’ve studied for four years—internal medicine, surgery, OB/GYN, pediatrics, you name it. We even covered traditional Chinese medicine."
"Oh, you..." Joy Coleman couldn’t bring herself to scold her. Instead, she could only curse the man who got Luna pregnant, wishing him a lineage of childlessness. "I’ll come with you on the day of the surgery."
Luna Axton linked her arm with Joy Coleman’s and rested her head on her shoulder. "You’re the best."
After seeing Joy off, Luna Axton went to the payment window at the Hepatology Hospital, having scraped together 800 dollars.
"I’ll pay this much for now. I’ll keep paying off the rest. Please don’t give the payment reminders to my mother."
The staff at the payment window already recognized her. They just mechanically answered, took the money, and printed the receipt.
Luna Axton was used to their impatience. As long as Mom can get better, this is nothing.
The Evergrow Group Tower stood tall in the Valoria Business District, a famous city landmark. Even though it was past closing time, the entire building was still brightly lit.
The CEO’s office on the top floor was as bright as day.
KNOCK. KNOCK KNOCK.
A rhythmic knock sounded at the door, but the person inside remained still.
"Enter." The voice was low, crisp, and steady.
The assistant pushed the door open. Beyond the massive floor-to-ceiling windows lay the most prosperous and dazzling night view of Valoria.
On the black desk, files of various colors were neatly arranged. The man stared intently at his computer screen.
"Sir, the investigation is complete."
Kyle Joyce glanced at the CEO’s face. His nose was high-bridged, his jawline smooth and sharp—as decisive and incisive as the man himself.
"The woman’s name is Luna Axton. She’s a medical student in the eight-year integrated Bachelor’s-Master’s-PhD program at Valoria Medical College."
"Mm," Blaze Fairchild acknowledged, his gaze never leaving the screen. His long fingers tapped on the keyboard as he continued to work. When Blaze Fairchild didn’t hear his assistant leave, he said, "You can go home for the day."
"Sir..." Kyle Joyce believed that, given the CEO’s current situation, this next piece of information was essential to report. "Miss Axton is pregnant. She’s scheduled a pregnancy termination procedure for three days from now."
