When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 17: Almost Got Pounced On
Blaze Fairchild didn’t go to the office on Saturday. He’d been busy in his study ever since breakfast.
Luna Axton first had her yoga class in the open area in front of the house. After showering and having a snack, she attended her lesson with Dr. Miller.
By the time she had finished everything Blaze Fairchild had scheduled for her, it was only ten-thirty in the morning.
At this hour, Joy would have just woken up.
It was the perfect time for them to meet at the hospital and then go grab a nice meal together.
She hadn’t spent her weekends eating and drinking with Joy ever since her mother fell ill and was hospitalized.
Back when they both received their acceptance letters from Valoria University, they had made a pact to eat their way through all of Valoria’s best food spots during their college years.
Now, Joy was already starting her senior year internship. If they didn’t meet up soon, she would graduate before they knew it.
Soon, she would have her studies and a baby to look after, while Joy would be officially starting her career.
Finding a good time to meet up would probably become much harder.
Luna Axton lurked outside the study, trying to figure out how to ask Blaze Fairchild if she could go out for most of the day and miss lunch and dinner at home.
Before she could figure out what to say, she heard Blaze Fairchild’s footsteps.
The moment his black leather slippers appeared in the doorway, she stepped forward and spread her arms to block his path.
"Mr. Fairchild!"
Blaze Fairchild was tipping back a glass to drink the last bit of water, and at her height, Luna Axton was completely out of his line of sight.
Her sudden block and shout made it impossible for him to stop his forward momentum.
Since Luna Axton was pregnant, he couldn’t risk them both tumbling to the floor. In a split-second decision, his only option was to wrap his arms tightly around Luna Axton’s waist and lift her off the ground.
They spun a full circle before he managed to brace himself against a wall, steadying them both.
He looked down to see her eyes, wide with shock, and her hands desperately clutching his sweater.
Blaze Fairchild set her down, his voice laced with anger. "What do you think you’re doing?!"
"I just wanted to talk to you about something."
"Try using your brain, will you?"
"I’m sorry, I misjudged the situation."
Blaze Fairchild heard the tremor in her voice and realized she had been badly frightened too. He didn’t have the heart to scold her any further.
He pressed his long fingers to his forehead, composing himself and keeping his voice as calm as possible. "What did you want to tell me?"
"I... It’s Saturday, and I’d like to have lunch and dinner out with my friend. I’ll be home before eight p.m." Luna Axton finished, and fearing Blaze Fairchild would say no, she meekly added in a small voice, "Is that okay?"
"After what you just pulled, do you really think I’m going to let you eat out and spend the better part of the day gallivanting around?"
"It’s not for the whole day! We’re going to the hospital to see my mom first, and then we’ll go eat and hang out," Luna Axton protested.
"Do what?"
"Just... you know, things girls do when they go out. We haven’t planned it yet. But I definitely won’t do anything that could harm the baby."
The baby was her treasure, her good luck charm. She wanted the baby to be healthy more than anything.
"And what will you eat?" Blaze Fairchild asked.
"Street food in Valoria."
"I’ll consider it," Blaze Fairchild said, then went downstairs to get some water.
In the dining room, Blaze Fairchild watched his glass slowly fill with warm water. He thought of the fleeting defiance in Luna Axton’s eyes, and how she’d had no choice but to bow her head in the end.
A slight smile touched his handsome lips. His mood had improved.
Luna Axton went back to her room to wait for Blaze Fairchild’s answer. She started punching a throw pillow to vent her frustration. "Take that! And that!"
She was furious with herself for her reckless stunt, which had jeopardized her outing and might even get it canceled completely. She was even more furious that she needed Blaze Fairchild’s permission just to go out and get a nice meal.
Blaze Fairchild had just started up the stairs when he heard the commotion from her room and glanced over.
Venting her anger on a pillow. How childish. If he didn’t let her go, is she just going to sit around the house all day again?
Both Mrs. Creed and Uncle Foster had told him the Young Madam was beautiful and kind, with a charming way of speaking. She had coaxed Grandpa Fairchild into such a good mood that his appetite had even improved over the past couple of days.
"You can go out."
Luna Axton’s eyes lit up instantly. "That’s great!"
"But I have conditions."
Her good mood made her exceptionally polite. "I’m listening, Mr. Fairchild."
"You have to be back by five p.m. at the latest. You’ll have lunch at a restaurant I designate. And you have to send me pictures of everything you do. Agree to those terms, and you can go." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
How could Luna Axton possibly disagree? She wasn’t stupid. Even if she didn’t report back, Caleb would tell Blaze Fairchild everything anyway.
"Okay. I’ll have Caleb send you the photos. Just tell him which restaurant, and I’ll go. I’ll report back to you, too."
Worst case, I’ll just watch Joy eat all the good stuff, she thought. I’ll just have to live vicariously. If my eyes see it, it’s as good as eating it.
Luna Axton left in an excellent mood.
She had deliberately asked to come back later; it was a negotiating tactic to get the curfew she had now.
If she had asked for a five o’clock curfew from the start, he probably would have told her to come home right after lunch.
Besides, she had books to study. It wasn’t like she was going to stay out until dark.
The sky was a brilliant blue, and the white clouds looked as soft as cotton candy, floating with a sense of indescribable bliss.
As soon as Luna Axton got to the hospital, she sent Joy Coleman a text: I’m at the hospital. Come on over whenever you’re up and ready.
Joy Coleman replied quickly: Next stop is yours.
Seeing a smile on her daughter’s face for the first time in a long while, Jenna Axton smiled happily too.
"Mom, I’ve signed the consent for your surgery. The chief surgeon will operate on Monday. I only have classes in the afternoon and evening that day, so I’ll come and stay with you in the morning."
Jenna Axton smiled gently. "Okay. The doctors told me all about it this morning. I can’t wait to see my little grandbaby, too."
"Mom, I feel like this baby is my lucky star. Ever since he came along, everything has been going so smoothly for me. I’ve decided to nickname him Lucky."
"Aren’t you going to discuss it with Blaze?"
Luna Axton didn’t notice anything unusual about her mother’s familiar way of addressing Blaze Fairchild.
"I’ll pick the nickname. I’ll leave his official name to him and Grandpa Fairchild."
"How is Blaze?" Thinking of her good friend, Susie, Jenna Axton couldn’t help but feel a little more concerned about Blaze Fairchild.
"He’s doing fine. Grandpa Fairchild said he’s very busy with work, and he really is. He’s even working today."
It’s good that he’s busy, though. A busy man has less time to keep an eye on her.
"Have you met anyone else in his family?"
"No, just him and Grandpa Fairchild." Luna Axton lied. Blaze Fairchild had an annoying aunt, and she didn’t want her mother to worry.
"It’s not easy for him at his age. When you’re not busy with your studies, you should spend some time talking with the old gentleman."
Jenna Axton still remembered how she used to visit Susie often.
Mr. Fairchild had never once made her feel unwelcome. He was always thanking her for keeping Susie company and taking young Blaze Fairchild out to play.
Mr. Fairchild was a kind and benevolent man.
"I know, Mom."
"Mrs. Axton! Luna! I’m here!" Joy Coleman’s cheerful voice rang out as she pushed the door open and bounced inside.
"Now that’s the smile I know and love," Jenna Axton teased her. "That’s my Joy."
Joy Coleman knew nothing could get past Ms. Axton’s eagle eyes. "Looks like you really are feeling better, Mrs. Axton."
"Yes. And please call Ms. Brooks and tell her not to worry." She hadn’t used her phone in so long that the service had been cut off; she had to rely on Joy to pass on messages.
Jenna Axton knew the two girls were eager to go out. "Go on, you two. It’s almost lunchtime. I’ll be fine here. Once I’m a little stronger, I’ll be able to go outside and get some sun myself."
"Thank you, Mrs. Axton! I’ll take good care of Luna and the little one."
Joy Coleman hadn’t had a weekend off in a long time, either, and there was so much she wanted to talk to Luna Axton about.
Luna was book-smart, but her real-world experience was limited to a few part-time jobs. With Mrs. Axton sick, she didn’t have the energy for a long talk with her daughter.
Since Joy had already taken her first steps into the professional world, and as someone studying law, she felt it was her duty to talk to Luna about this whirlwind marriage of hers.
