When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 16: Contractual Spirit, No Need for Thanks
By the time Blaze Fairchild finished his meeting, it was already dark. He had intended to work overtime at the office. But then he remembered the new policy and knew he should lead by example.
So he packed up and brought his work home.
He walked into Lakeside Manor under the orange glow of the streetlights. Inside the quiet villa, only the first floor was lit.
In the living room, things were just as he’d expected from his earlier phone call.
Dr. Miller was writing and drawing on a mobile whiteboard.
Luna Axton, dressed in pink and white checkered loungewear, was sitting cross-legged on the sofa.
Under the white light of the living room, her skin looked even fairer. Her eyes were exceptionally focused as she occasionally lowered her head to write in a notebook resting on her lap.
She’s quite obedient. Even from behind, one could tell she has the posture of a model student.
Blaze Fairchild strode into the living room in a few long steps.
Mrs. Creed heard the noise. "Young Master, you’re back. Have you had dinner?"
"Just a bowl of noodles will be fine."
Luna Axton also turned to look at the entryway and saw Blaze Fairchild leaning a hand on the shoe cabinet as he changed into his indoor slippers.
It was a perfectly ordinary action, yet it possessed an indescribable elegance and refinement.
It’s probably because he’s tall and slender, with well-proportioned hips and legs, and he’s wearing a black suit, Luna Axton thought.
Some people just have that kind of charm. Even the sight of them from behind is pleasing to the eye.
Blaze Fairchild was one of those people.
Just as Luna Axton was looking up at him, Blaze Fairchild straightened up and glanced in her direction.
Their eyes met unexpectedly.
Luna Axton felt her heart race. She immediately pulled her gaze away and looked back at the whiteboard. She pretended she had only been glancing casually toward the entryway.
Her heart skipped several beats. Getting caught slacking off by Blaze Fairchild during her lesson was far more terrifying than being caught by a high school teacher, especially since she had been staring right at him.
After entering the room, Blaze Fairchild went straight to the dining table and opened his laptop to work. When Mrs. Creed brought him the noodles, he pushed his laptop and files aside and ate right there at the table.
Luna Axton continued her lesson in the living room, sitting cross-legged with her back straight, listening even more attentively than before.
"Young Master, Young Madam, that’s all for today’s lesson," Dr. Miller said after finishing.
After eating, the Young Master immediately opened his laptop to work right there in the living room. His presence felt like silent supervision, which made the lesson incredibly nerve-wracking for her.
Blaze Fairchild paused his work and looked toward the living room. "You can rest now."
In the living room, both of their shoulders slumped in relief.
Dr. Miller packed up his teaching materials and left, while a miserable Luna Axton sat on the sofa, pounding her numb legs.
"What’s wrong with your legs?"
Luna Axton looked up at Blaze Fairchild pitifully. "They’re numb."
Blaze Fairchild stood up and bent down in front of her.
Blaze Fairchild’s unique scent suddenly enveloped her, making her inexplicably flustered. "Wh-what... what are you doing?"
The next second, Blaze Fairchild’s arms slipped under her legs, and he lifted her into the air. Startled, she wrapped her arms around his neck.
Blaze Fairchild said, "Weren’t you going back to your room?"
Luna Axton bit her lip, her mind going blank. She nodded woodenly.
His handsome face is just inches away. His eyelashes are so thick and curled. It would be nice if their child inherited them. His nose is perfect, too, and his lips are just the right thickness. How can everything about him be so perfect?
Blaze Fairchild placed her on the sofa she usually liked to sit on, then left without another word.
Luna Axton raised a hand to touch her nose. A moment ago, Blaze Fairchild’s Adam’s apple had brushed against the tip of her nose, and the sensation... It was like a feather brushing across her palm, leaving a ticklish feeling behind.
Her heart was pounding in disarray.
So much so that by the time Blaze Fairchild had packed his things and gone upstairs, she hadn’t read a single page of the book open on her lap.
"Are your studies very busy?"
Hearing Blaze Fairchild’s question, Luna Axton looked at him with her large, shimmering eyes.
Why is he suddenly asking about her studies? Luna Axton gathered her wits. He probably wants her to focus on more than just her studies.
"I’ll manage my time well. It’s just that something unexpected came up today."
She was trying her best to secure the internship, but some things couldn’t be achieved through effort alone. That’s why she wouldn’t tell anyone about it until she got the spot. She would just keep working hard in secret.
Blaze Fairchild said, "You can refuse unimportant things."
Judging by his tone, he was talking about what happened that morning with his aunt, Rosalind Fairchild.
"Grandpa arranged it," Luna Axton explained. It wasn’t that she was coveting those two outfits.
She had gone out with Rosalind Fairchild for two reasons: first, to honor Grandfather’s wishes, and second, because Rosalind had ill intentions from the start. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
She believed that with people who meant her harm, as long as you nipped their malicious plans in the bud the first time, they wouldn’t cause trouble a second time.
Rosalind Fairchild had been thwarted today, so Luna was confident she wouldn’t ask her out again.
Blaze Fairchild said nothing more.
Luna Axton continued, "I went to see my mother this afternoon. The doctors have adjusted her treatment plan. I also know that you paid for her medical fees. Thank you, Mr. Fairchild. I will do everything you’ve asked of me."
Blaze Fairchild looked at her, his dark eyes deep with an emotion she couldn’t decipher. After about ten seconds, he said stiffly, "It’s part of the contract. No need to thank me."
Hearing this, the last bit of burden in Luna Axton’s heart lifted.
That’s right, she thought. It’s a contract. As long as I do what we agreed, there’s no need for thanks, and no reason to feel like I’m taking advantage of him.
Tomorrow was the weekend. After her morning yoga and her lesson with Dr. Miller, the rest of the day would be hers.
Luna Axton’s spirits lifted at the thought of seeing Joy tomorrow.
