Chapter 147: Chapter 147: A Familiar Back of the Head

Luna Axton closed her book. As she stood up, she casually slipped her phone back into her pocket.

"Is there anything you need, Aunt May?"

"Could you make some stuffed citrus puerh tea for your aunt? I’m thirsty." May Ford saw the teacups and casually gave her something to do, lest she get bored sitting there by herself.

Luna’s hands were fair and delicate, her fingers slender and long. Growing up, she had likely only known hardship during the two years her mother was ill.

’Whether she was with Adriana or Blaze Fairchild, those beautiful hands probably never touched water for anything other than washing her face, brushing her teeth, or bathing.’

’But Luna is so wonderful, and she’s been through so much. She deserves to enjoy all these blessings.’

’Luna should just be able to do what she loves, cherished by the whole family.’

"Okay, I’ll make it right now," Luna Axton agreed.

She had noticed last night that the Frost Family kept their tea in the wall cabinet. She took out a puerh tea ball wrapped in a small green citrus peel and prepared to brew it in an upright Zisha dezhong pot.

Stuffed citrus puerh was one of the most forgiving teas when it came to brewing time and water temperature. A single ball could last for a whole day.

Back when her mother had to teach five classes a day, she would steep a ball of it in a cup.

But when she unwrapped the paper and saw the white frost on the citrus peel and smelled the fresh fragrance of the small green citrus...

’I can’t just let one steep all day,’ she thought. ’That would be a waste of such a fine stuffed citrus puerh.’

Luna Axton finished the first infusion, poured it into a fairness pitcher, and brought it over to refill May Ford’s cup.

"Mmm, Luna, you brewed this perfectly." May Ford savored the sweet, mellow flavor in her mouth. "The citrus aroma is rich yet fresh and natural. You must have poured the water directly into the heart of the tea."

Luna Axton’s eyes widened in surprise. "You’re amazing, Aunt May! You can even tell how I brewed it."

Flattered by her beautiful niece, May Ford’s mood brightened. She winked and said, "Your aunt knows a lot of things."

Luna Axton’s gaze fell on the lamb chops she was marinating. ’It’s true, Aunt May really does know a lot.’

’She can manage Concordia Medical Hall’s external affairs, cook delicious meals, and even coax Uncle into listening to her.’

’Uncle is a leading expert in hepatology, but Aunt May is no less an outstanding, all-around capable woman.’

Luna Axton’s admiration for her aunt grew, and she began to brew the tea with even more care.

She brought each infusion to the kitchen. After her aunt finished a cup, she would return to brew the next one.

Back and forth she went, occasionally watching May Ford and the house helper prepare the ingredients. The morning passed by just like that.

After lunch, Luna Axton went back to her room for a nap.

She opened her phone again to check it.

In her chat with Blaze Fairchild, there were no new messages. The conversation was still on the last one she had sent.

’Hmph. And he said he’d keep a tally if *I* didn’t text back. He hasn’t replied either.’

But then Luna Axton had another thought. Blaze Fairchild was taking his grandpa out today. Grandpa Fairchild was getting old, so taking him out required extra care.

’He probably hasn’t replied because he hasn’t had time to look at his phone.’

With that in mind, she put her phone down, pulled up the blanket, and prepared to take her nap.

Luna Axton lay with her beautiful eyes open, gazing toward the terrace.

’The sunlight outside the window is so nice.’

’Grandpa Fairchild must be very comfortable getting some sun.’

As Luna Axton thought this, her eyes began to droop.

In a drowsy state, halfway between sleep and wakefulness, the chime of a video call rang out, jolting her awake.

"What do you want?"

Her tone wasn’t particularly friendly, mainly because she’d been disturbed while trying to sleep, and the caller was none other than Blaze Fairchild, the very person who hadn’t replied to her message.

For some reason, her temper flared up.

On the screen, Blaze Fairchild’s head was framed against a vast blue sky.

The sky was a brilliant, cloudless blue, as if freshly washed.

The corners of his well-defined lips were turned up in a slight smile. It was clear he was in a good mood.

Luna Axton pressed her lips together. Her displeasure was so obvious that Blaze Fairchild could see it too.

"Were you napping?"

Luna Axton let out a cold "Hmph." Then, "Yeah."

"I just finished lunch with Grandpa. Texting is too slow, and I was afraid I’d get distracted picking out fish bones and let him choke. So I figured I’d video call you after we ate. This way, we can talk face-to-face, and I can see you."

A smile remained on Blaze Fairchild’s lips. He wasn’t very good at placating someone through a screen—he couldn’t hold her or kiss her.

"Then why are you outside?"

"I’m with Grandpa, having tea and listening to some music." Then it occurred to him that he should apologize. "I’m sorry. I didn’t reply to your message, and I woke you up from your nap."

Since he had apologized, she couldn’t keep holding it against him. Her nap was already ruined, so having a chat wasn’t a bad alternative.

"Ethan told my uncle and aunt that you came to see me last night."

"How did he know?"

Luna Axton then told Blaze Fairchild everything about her aunt being afraid of mice and what had happened that morning.

She chattered away, and Blaze Fairchild just watched her, his gaze fixed on her animated and joyful expression.

’She’s doing well living with the Frost Family.’

After listening, Blaze Fairchild was only concerned about his own perks. "So I really can’t come see you tonight?"

"It’s better if you don’t."

Luna Axton always felt that whenever she and Blaze Fairchild were mentioned, her aunt would look at her with an overly enthusiastic gaze, one that hinted at a deep-seated desire for gossip.

Before, she definitely wouldn’t have thought of Ms. Ford that way.

But after moving into the Frost Family’s home and witnessing that morning’s events, she felt that everyone in the family had a quirky gene in their bones.

When the family got together, it was like a comedy routine—full of quick wit, plenty of punchlines, and incredibly lively.

’Of course, it would be even better if I weren’t the butt of the joke.’

"Okay, I’ll listen to Luna."

Blaze Fairchild’s words pulled her back from her thoughts.

The fact that he was actually listening to her and wouldn’t be coming tonight made her feel an unavoidable pang of disappointment.

Blaze Fairchild noticed the shift in her beautiful eyes and casually asked, "How’s Lucky? Has he been kicking you?"

"Same as before. He’s more active in the morning. When I take a walk in the yard and get some sun, he loves to move around."

Speaking of the baby in her womb, a smile returned to Luna’s face, her sparkling eyes filled with anticipation.

After talking about the baby, they moved on to the topic of her ancestral rite of return ceremony in the village tomorrow.

Luna Axton, lying in bed, rolled from her left side to her right, then back to her left again, repeating the motion.

By the time they both ran out of things to say, more than an hour had passed.

After hanging up, she still felt drowsy and fell right to sleep.

Blaze Fairchild ended the video call. His phone battery had already turned red. He glanced at his grandfather, who was chatting happily with someone else, said a quick word, and went to the car to charge his phone.

On his way back, he deliberately took a detour to wander around the area.

Perhaps because she hadn’t slept well the night before, Luna Axton’s nap lasted longer than usual.

When she woke up, the sun was setting in the west, a cascade of molten gold.

Golden light spilled onto the wooden floor of her room.

Words couldn’t describe the joy and contentment Luna Axton felt at such a peaceful, beautiful sight.

She chose to capture the moment in a photograph.

Luna Axton took a picture of the white, gold-trimmed lace curtains against the sunset, a picture of the light on the floor, and a picture of herself with the sunset illuminating her face.

The beautiful scenery was recorded, she had slept enough, and she was thoroughly content.

Luna Axton combed out her sleep-mussed hair and checked that her eyes and the corners of her mouth looked fine before heading downstairs.

But as soon as she opened her bedroom door, she heard lively noises from downstairs.

’Are Mom, Dad, and Grandpa back? Do we have relatives over?’

Luna Axton hesitated, unsure what to do.

But she was part of the Frost Family now. It would be very rude not to go down and greet guests.

At that thought, she started down the stairs.

But the back of the head of the person sitting in the living room, facing away from her... why did it look so familiar?

"Luna’s up," Jenna Axton, who was eating a mangosteen, spotted her.

The conversation in the living room instantly fell silent as everyone turned to look at her.

The owner of that familiar head turned around, revealing a familiar face.
