Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Blaze Has Genuine Feelings for You

Jenna Axton had recovered. With her elegant demeanor and warm expression, she was once again the poised, intellectual English teacher from Kensing High School.

It was as if nothing had happened in the past few years.

The four of them were now sitting on the sofa. Jenna Axton held Luna’s hand, and as she began to speak, she glanced at her precious daughter beside her.

"I raised Luna all by myself. Except for her freshman and sophomore years of college, we’ve never been apart. As a mother, I can’t bear to see my daughter suffer."

"I taught Blaze for four or five years, so I’m relatively at ease with him and Luna getting married."

Luna Axton’s head snapped down. She knew what was coming next.

"Ever since Luna was born, I’ve been saving a little money each month to buy gold. I had a friend bring over the relevant documents for the gold savings. After so many years, it’s now just over a kilogram. This is my dowry for Luna. I’ve made an appointment with the bank’s account manager for a special transaction, and I’ll go transfer it into Luna’s name later."

’Mom is really marrying me off to Blaze Fairchild.’ Her heart suddenly felt hollow, as if a piece of it had been carved out.

Luna kept her head down as a tear splattered onto the back of her hand.

Her nose began to itch, and she sniffled.

’I never knew Mom was saving up gold for me, little by little, every single month.’ 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

’Gold is its own kind of currency. It means I’ll always have a safety net, no matter what.’

’This is how much Mom loves me.’

"You all know about Luna’s parentage. I selfishly believe it’s better for her not to acknowledge her biological father. But that’s just how I feel now. If fate brings them together in the future, I won’t stand in the way."

She didn’t dare speak in absolutes. No one could predict the future.

Jenna laid things out one by one.

As Jenna spoke, Julian Fairchild listened attentively. His expression was grave, his clear eyes filled with heartache and guilt.

Jenna and Luna’s suffering had been caused by Rosalind Fairchild, but it was also a result of his own failure as a father.

’I have to be twice as good to Luna,’ he thought. ’It’s the only way to ease this crushing guilt.’

Blaze kept his eyes fixed on Luna, who sat opposite him. When he saw her head bowed and her shoulders trembling with silent sobs, his heart twisted. He desperately wanted to rush over, pull her into his arms, and comfort her.

But with their parents right there, he had to hold himself back.

"I’m returning to Kensing with some friends on the fifth—the day after tomorrow. From now on..."

Jenna paused for a few seconds. Her eyes were red and brimming with tears. She sniffled, and when she spoke again, her voice was choked. "From now on, I’ll have to ask you, Mr. Fairchild, and you, Blaze, to take care of Luna."

Luna couldn’t hold back anymore. She turned and threw herself into her mother’s arms, sobbing. Fat tears soaked the collar of Jenna’s shirt, leaving a cool, damp patch against her skin.

The mother and daughter clung to each other. But Jenna, through sheer force of will, bit down and held back her own tears. She wouldn’t let a single one fall, nor would she make a sound.

’I’m the mother. I made this decision, so I have to be the one to see it through.’

She gently patted her precious daughter’s heaving shoulders. "When you have Lucky, sweetheart, Mom will be here with you. Don’t be afraid, sweetheart."

She repeated the endearment, "sweetheart," over and over, as if afraid she might never get to call her daughter that again.

Before Julian Fairchild, whose own eyes were red, could speak, Blaze made a promise.

"Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll take even better care of Luna. I won’t let her suffer the slightest bit, and I’ll never ask her to give anything up."

Jenna nodded. She believed him.

She could see that Blaze truly loved Luna.

Blaze’s childhood may have been broken, but he was learning how to love someone.

"Good. Aunt Adriana is relieved, and so is ’Mom.’ Because it’s you, Blaze, I’m truly at ease."

The change from "Aunt Adriana" to "Mom" sent a current of warmth through Blaze’s heart. He vowed to do even better, to be worthy of the trust she had placed in him.

With Luna’s affairs settled, it was time to discuss her own.

"I’ve been living at the Fairchild Estate for so long... Thank you, Mr. Fairchild, and you too, Blaze. You helped me get treatment, you took care of me, you supported me. I will find a way to repay you in the future."

Julian Fairchild shook his head vehemently, rejecting her words.

"Adriana, don’t say that. It was Rosalind... and I... we were the ones who were wrong. This is the very least we could do."

"Let’s not dwell on the past." Jenna wiped away her tears. "Let’s just hope the two of them can build a good life together."

"Yes, yes," Julian agreed. "From the moment I first met Luna, I felt it was Blaze’s good fortune to marry her. I raised him; I know him best. So, you just focus on taking care of yourself. With me and Blaze having her back, no one will dare to bother her."

"Good. Thank you, Mr. Fairchild." This was exactly the assurance Jenna needed to hear.

As the woman who had given birth to and raised Luna, she knew exactly what kind of person her daughter could become.

Luna just hadn’t taken her place on the stage of her own life yet. Once she did, she would shine. Her future could only grow brighter and more expansive.

Luna was too heartbroken to speak. She knew what her mother returning to Kensing signified.

’The distance between Mom and me isn’t just the physical distance between Kensing and Valoria.’

’From now on, Mom will be Jenna Axton... but she’ll also be Adriana Frost.’

’And I’ll always be just Luna Axton.’

’In public, we can’t call each other "Mom" or "sweetheart" anymore.’

After her mother finished speaking and Luna had cried it all out, she began to accept the reality of the situation, and her emotions stabilized.

Blaze, sitting across from her, silently pulled a tissue from the box and handed it to her.

She wiped the tears and mucus from her face, though her cheeks and the tip of her nose remained flushed.

It was painful for Jenna to watch. Even though she’d spent two days mentally preparing herself, seeing her daughter cry with such sorrow still broke her heart.

Still, a decision had to be made.

Dragging things out would only hurt more people in the end.

「On the third day of the Lunar New Year」

The festive atmosphere still lingered in the streets. With the main festival days over, people began visiting relatives, filling the streets with more pedestrians and cars.

Jenna was driving, and Luna sat in the back seat.

They were on their way to the bank to process the transfer of the gold accumulation plan.

Back in kindergarten and elementary school, she had spent nearly every commute in the back seat of her mother’s car.

Years later, she was in her mother’s back seat once again. Her heart was strangely calm, but as she gazed out the window, her eyes were filled with a lost and helpless expression.

’For the first time in my twenty-two years, I have no idea what my next step should be.’

"Sweetheart, Blaze is a good man. His feelings for you are genuine."

Jenna watched her daughter’s expression in the rearview mirror.

Her heart ached for her, but she couldn’t afford to be soft now. Her only choice was to put her faith in Blaze.

Luna’s eyes narrowed.

’Genuine?’

’They must be.’

’I’m not made of stone. Of course, I know Blaze is a warm and dependable person.’

’But given the prenuptial agreement, are his genuine feelings for me, or for the child in my belly?’

Luna didn’t know the answer.

’I’ll just have to wait. I’ll wait until after Lucky is born and see how Blaze acts then.’

’Everything will be clear then.’

"I know, Mom. Blaze is a good person." ’Mom made her decision, so I’ll support it,’ she thought. ’There’s no point in saying anything more.’

Jenna understood Blaze’s patient, long-term approach. It was another reason she felt comfortable entrusting her daughter to him.

Blaze didn’t proclaim his love from the rooftops precisely because his feelings were real.

Luna was only twenty-two; her education should be her priority right now.

Blaze wanted her to focus on her studies and take responsibility for her own life.

How could she not be at ease with a son-in-law who was so considerate of her precious daughter?

"My paycheck will still be used to transfer money into the gold accumulation account every month. Let the gold keep building up. Whenever you need it, sweetheart, just convert it to cash. Everything else will stay the same as before. Mom will cover all your expenses until you can earn your own money and support yourself."

’So the bank will be our only connection now,’ she thought.

Luna let out a quiet breath and replied with a smile, "I know, Mom."
