What's wrong with this lawyer?!-Chapter 1001 - 324: Can’t Provoke Tang Fangjing, Can’t Provoke You Either?
Director Liu and Tong Yunyu’s conversation continued without any intervention from old Tang.
He was indeed in charge of the case, but as the legal director analyzed, all he could use was based on a contract, and once it got to court, whether a contract that says "The party didn’t listen to me so they must pay liquidated damages" would be effective or not was another matter entirely.
Because lawyers are supposed to listen to their clients, after all.
If it really came to that, it would be hard for old Tang to say if he would sue...
So in theory, as long as the other party offered enough money and was generous, mediation would surely succeed.
But he didn’t expect Tong Yunyu to come out with a price of forty-five million...
That reminded old Tang of an old video from a past life; a wealthy old man had his eye on a young lady and ostentatiously pulled out a checkbook, telling her to fill in any amount she liked.
It was clearly old-fashioned because, after all, checks had never been popular domestically; ordinary people only knew about them from TV shows and movies.
In the end, the lady filled in one billion, and the old man immediately panicked upon seeing it.
The lady retorted, "Didn’t you say I could fill in whatever I wanted, that any amount would be mine?"
This case has nothing to do with the mission, but he would observe Tong Yunyu’s attitude to see whether she really wanted tens of millions or if she was using this price to hinder mediation.
Because being able to mediate at all was related to him, old Tang. In other words, the high price Tong Yunyu asked for was actually leveraging his, Tang Fangjing’s, influence.
So he definitely couldn’t just stand by and watch.
However, even if they were really willing to pay, would Judge Zhou be willing to oversee it? Definitely not.
As mentioned before, in civil disputes, demanding compensations far exceeding normal amounts has led some to consider it as extortion.
Director Liu stared at Tong Yunyu and asked again: "Ms. Tong, let me ask you again, are you sure you have the intention to mediate? Forty-five million, if I give it to you, would you dare to take it?"
Tong Yunyu replied unfazed, "Mediation was something you proposed, not me. But since you asked, let me tell you, I never had any intention to mediate. Do you understand?"
"You asked for a number, so I randomly threw out a number to tease you, and you actually got anxious."
"Director Tang’s usual practice is to make a video after finishing a case. You insisted on confidentiality, and I won’t do it, and you even dared ask if I would dare to take your money?"
"Alright then, I’ll tell you now, I don’t dare to take it; I don’t dare to take a dime of your money now. Is that clear?"
"Judge Zhou, I think we should proceed with the court hearing as usual, there’s no need for mediation."
Upon hearing this, Judge Zhou was about to say something when Director Fang hurriedly tried to smooth things over, "Ms. Tong, don’t be upset, Director Liu didn’t mean that..."
"What do you mean by ’didn’t mean that’? Alright, I’ve got other things to attend to, I’m leaving. Leave your matters to be discussed with my lawyer."
After Tong Yunyu finished speaking, she stood up and left directly.
Director Fang was stunned too. He had just observed that the atmosphere was not quite right, so he tried to intervene, but who could have expected the other party to disregard courtesy and leave abruptly!
With the audience gone, how could one still play to the gallery?
Perform for Tang Fangjing? What kind of international joke is that, that man is a lunatic.
Meanwhile, Judge Zhou stood up to follow, but realizing he couldn’t catch up, he came back and said, "Well, it seems mediation is no longer feasible under these circumstances. What do both parties think?"
Director Liu’s face darkened as he glanced at old Tang. He really wanted to slam the table but felt restrained in front of old Tang.
The matter was botched, and the worst part is not knowing why it failed.
The plan seemed perfect initially; throw some money and the other party would agree. The starting offer was triple the compensation, and that truly wasn’t a small sum.
If the other party wanted more, further negotiation was possible, even four or five times the amount. But unexpectedly, they demanded to add two zeros upfront as if that were nothing!
Seeing the situation, Judge Zhou spoke again: "Since both parties have a significant divergence now, I declare the mediation over. Everyone, please go back and wait for the court’s notice."
Director Liu glanced at old Tang, then rose and left.
Old Tang didn’t say much, just looked at Judge Zhou. Although he didn’t know why Tong Yunyu was so adamant, he could only think that Judge Zhou was quite lucky.
But the matter still needed to be clarified.
After watching both parties leave, Judge Zhou’s originally serious face suddenly filled with excitement, delighted as if stumbling upon an unexpected path after a long journey in the mountains.
"Just as I said, fortune favors me, see, luck is on my side too!"
"Those dogs from the Criminal Court dare show off to me, just wait, I’ll show them what despair is!"
Elsewhere, Director Liu left the courthouse, and though his face looked grim, he still took out his phone to call Director Zhang.
"Hello, Director Zhang, it’s Liu. There’s something you should know; the mediation failed, the party disagrees with confidentiality..."
On the other side of the phone, Director Zhang was in his office. Surprised, he asked, "Disagree? Why, didn’t you offer more money?" freeweɓnøvel.com
"Could it be there’s another Tang Fangjing, someone who doesn’t care about money?"
Director Zhang really felt like lashing out. Normally, mentioning his name in town had some weight, able to resolve any issue, but now, such a trivial matter couldn’t be handled?
"It’s not that she doesn’t want money, that person... she loves money too much, you know how much she asked me for? Forty-five million. Could I give such an amount?" Director Liu replied, also irritated.
"She thinks I’m an easy mark, huh? The case hasn’t even started, and she dares to demand so much money. Who does she think she is!"
