Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 178: You’ve Just Fallen for Vivian Quinn
Ethan Grant was fuming with disappointment. "Since you’d already figured out who she was, why couldn’t you just send her away unharmed? Don’t think for a second I don’t know what you were trying to do! You wanted her dead, you ordered the bodyguards to rape her! Otherwise, things never would have escalated to this point!"
Rachel Quinn felt utterly wronged. "She came right to my doorstep! Of course I was going to teach her a lesson. Am I supposed to just let anyone walk all over me?"
"You dare to teach *Jett Sterling* a lesson?" Ethan Grant let out a laugh of pure disbelief. "You’re absolutely clueless. It’s one thing if you want to dig your own grave, but don’t you dare drag the Grant Family down with you! With that idiotic brain of yours, you’ll be the death of this family!"
With that, Ethan Grant turned and stormed out.
Rachel Quinn’s face was pale with rage. "Austin Grant, your father just spoke to me like that, and you’re not going to say a single word in my defense?"
Austin Grant opened his mouth to say something, but the sight of her pregnant belly made him hold his tongue. "Rachel, just focus on your pregnancy. Please, don’t cause any more trouble."
Rachel Quinn was so furious she could grind her teeth to dust. She started hitting him. "How many times do I have to tell you people before you get it? It was Vivian Quinn who came after me first, don’t you understand!"
"I know Vivian was pretending to be The Phantom Healer, but Dad was right. After you figured it out, why did you have your people humiliate her? If Jett Sterling had insisted on settling the score today, we wouldn’t have had a leg to stand on. Do you get that?"
"I don’t get it!" Rachel Quinn broke down, sobbing. "Why does Vivian Quinn have to be better than me at everything? Why does she always have to outshine me? Even the husband she found is more powerful than mine! Why!"
Austin Grant’s expression instantly turned cold. "Rachel Quinn, so you look down on me now, is that it? But don’t you forget, Vivian was my fiancée. You were the one who schemed and plotted to snatch me away from her."
"’Vivian this, Vivian that.’ It just rolls right off your tongue, doesn’t it?" Rachel Quinn sneered. "You regret marrying me, don’t you? You saw that bewitching face of hers and it stirred something in you, didn’t it?"
"You’re being ridiculous!" Austin Grant turned and walked away.
"You get back here!" Rachel Quinn shrieked, clutching the blanket tightly. "Austin Grant, I hit a nerve, didn’t I? You’ve fallen for Vivian Quinn! I knew you were a piece of trash! Austin Grant!"
Only dead silence answered her.
...
In the black Rolls-Royce, Vivian Quinn smoothed out her hair and asked, "Was Elle behaving himself at home?"
The man beside her looked displeased. "He was better behaved than you."
Vivian Quinn’s eyes crinkled in a smile. "Mr. Sterling, I was really just there to save a life. Things would have gone smoothly, but who could have known Rachel Quinn would be so despicable as to try and keep me there?"
"She knows me too well. I suspect she saw my every move on the security cameras and realized it was me."
"Vivian, I know you’re kind-hearted, but you don’t need to extend that kindness to people like her."
"I wasn’t trying to help her; I was just thinking that the child is innocent." Vivian Quinn sighed. "But it was a wasted trip. She doesn’t trust me. If she doesn’t take her medicine on schedule, she’ll lose the baby."
"That would be the retribution she deserves."
Vivian Quinn nodded. "I’ve done all I can. The rest is up to fate."
"Don’t you ever take a risk like that again." Jett Sterling pulled her into his arms. "We had precautions in place, but you have to remember, they have guns. A stray bullet... If the worst were to happen, I wouldn’t be able to bear it."
"I know." Vivian Quinn leaned against his broad chest. "I promise. I won’t take any more risks, because I need to stay alive to grow old with you."
Jett Sterling placed a deep kiss on the crown of her head. "Good."
When they got home, Elle was on his iPad. "Vivian, you’re finally back! You went out to have fun without me!"
"Vivian had some business to take care of; I wasn’t out having fun." Vivian Quinn took his iPad. "It’s already eleven. Time for bed."
"Okay."
Vivian Quinn carried Elle to the bedroom for his bath. Suddenly, Elle remembered something and asked, "Vivian, what were you and Daddy doing in the bathroom last night?"
Vivian Quinn’s eyes flew wide with panic. "Why are you suddenly asking that?"
"I woke up last night and heard you crying in the bathroom. Daddy wasn’t in bed, so he must have gone to comfort you." Elle said, a little bashful. "I wanted to come check on you, but I was too sleepy to get out of bed."
Vivian Quinn swallowed nervously, forcing herself to lie. "Oh, Elle... Vivian fell in the bathroom last night, so I cried because it hurt. Your daddy came to help me up. I didn’t realize you woke up right at that moment."
Elle looked at her with concern. "Vivian, where did you get hurt? Elle will blow on it to make it better."
Her heart warmed, but it was tinged with a bit of guilt.
’She really didn’t want to lie to a child, but how could she possibly tell him the truth about *that*!’
"It’s okay, it doesn’t hurt anymore. Thank you, Elle."
Vivian Quinn finished his bath and tucked him into bed.
The moment Elle was asleep, Jett Sterling entered and came right over to sweep Vivian into his arms.
"Stop it!" Vivian Quinn shoved him away. "I told you we can’t be reckless! Elle woke up last night and heard the noise we were making!"
"Is that so?" Jett Sterling nodded thoughtfully. "Sounds like the bathroom door isn’t soundproof enough. We’ll have to replace it."
Vivian Quinn: "..."!!!
"Is that what I was talking about? Replacing the door? I’m talking about you not being able to act so recklessly!"
"Mrs. Sterling, your husband is a healthy, normal man in the prime of his life," Jett Sterling stated, as if it were a simple fact.
Vivian Quinn was left speechless. "Well, you still have to be considerate of the fact that Elle is in here."
"You could have the maids look after him."
"No. I’m used to watching over him myself. I wouldn’t feel right leaving him with the maids."
Jett Sterling had no choice but to compromise. "We’ll set up the room next door for him to sleep in. We can have a maid stay with him, and you’ll be able to hear immediately if anything happens."
Vivian Quinn couldn’t help but laugh. "Mr. Sterling, are you really willing to let Elle move up to the second floor?"
The entire second floor was reserved for the couple. Even Wendy Reeves’ room was on the first floor; she didn’t have clearance to come up to the second.
"You’re so fond of him. What choice do I have?"
Vivian Quinn pecked the corner of his thin lips. "Elle is just so lovable. Honestly, most of the time, I forget he’s Shirley Wentworth’s son. There are no hang-ups at all; I just instinctively want to be good to him."
"It’s in your nature to love children."
"That’s not it, though. Professor York has a little grandson, and while I like him, it’s nothing like this. I feel like there’s some kind of invisible force drawing Elle and me together."
"It’s the law of attraction. You’ve always been radiant."
"Tsk, tsk." Vivian Quinn pinched his cheek. "Mr. Sterling, you’re quite the smooth talker."
Jett Sterling raised an eyebrow. "So, can you reward me by joining me in the shower?"
Vivian Quinn: "..."
"Get lost!"
...
「Saturday arrived in the blink of an eye.」
First thing in the morning, Shirley Wentworth arrived at Sycamore Bay to pick up Elle. She was civil enough to Vivian Quinn. "Will Elle’s health be good enough to handle the banquet tonight?"
"His condition has been quite stable recently. The intervals between his episodes have been getting longer, so it shouldn’t be a problem."
Shirley Wentworth’s expression was imploring. "Miss Quinn, I’m still worried. For the sake of Elle’s health, could I trouble you to attend the banquet as well? That way, if anything were to happen to him, you’d be right there to help."
