Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 125: I Want Everything of Jett Sterling’s
"What are you doing here again?" Vivian Quinn looked at him. "Here for another free meal?"
The man in the wheelchair had a solemn expression. "Vivian, we need to talk."
"There’s nothing for us to talk about."
Just as Vivian was about to close the door, a hand suddenly blocked it. "Vivian, let me in."
"Jett Sterling, what on earth are you trying to do?" Vivian demanded, annoyed.
The man forcefully pushed the door open, maneuvered his wheelchair inside, and questioned her, "Vivian, were you the one who drove Shane Shaw away?"
Vivian Quinn was stunned for a moment before it clicked. "Are you in contact with Shane Shaw?"
"No," Jett Sterling denied. "I’ve been keeping an eye on you, so of course I’m aware of your every move."
Vivian Quinn chuckled lightly. "You might as well just admit you’re having me followed."
"Vivian, you don’t have to be so prickly."
"Did I beg you to come here just to listen to my prickly words?" Vivian Quinn sat down on the sofa. "You showed up on your own, so you can’t blame me for my tone. Go on, what is it?"
"Vivian, Shane Shaw cares a great deal for you. As for the matter with Diana Davenport, if you can’t stomach what happened, I can help."
Vivian Quinn’s brow furrowed. "Did I say I wanted your help? Jett Sterling, I swear, there’s something wrong with you. You weren’t nearly this attentive when you were ignoring my feelings."
"...I’m sorry."
"So I was right. Now that I’m giving you the cold shoulder, it’s piqued your desire to conquer me again, is that it?"
"That’s not it." Jett Sterling gripped the armrests of his wheelchair. "I just don’t want you to become a different person because of me."
"That’s my business. It has nothing to do with you," Vivian Quinn said coldly.
Jett Sterling looked at her in confusion. "Vivian, what is it you really want?"
"I haven’t decided yet." Vivian Quinn’s lips curved into a faint smile. "Don’t worry. When I figure it out, you’ll be the first to know."
Just as Jett Sterling was about to speak, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Vivian Quinn got up to open the door and saw Mason Landon standing outside. "What are you doing here?"
Mason Landon showed her the bag in his hand. "You mentioned you were craving crayfish back at the hospital. They aren’t in season, so I bought some lobster to cook for you instead."
"Thank you." Vivian Quinn opened the door and let him in.
The moment Mason Landon stepped inside, he spotted Jett Sterling. He smiled and said, "I saw a luxury car parked downstairs. I didn’t check the plate, but I should’ve known it was you."
Jett Sterling’s gaze darkened. "Coming over to cook for her at this hour... don’t you think that’s inappropriate?"
"Vivian and I have known each other longer than she’s known you. Whether as a friend or as the doctor who treated her, it’s perfectly normal for me to visit her. I don’t need your permission."
"In case you’ve forgotten, we’re not divorced. She is still my wife."
"There’s no need to emphasize your tenuous marital relationship, Master Sterling. I’ve known from the start that you two aren’t suited for each other. You don’t deserve Vivian." Mason Landon gestured to the door. "Master Sterling, do I need to call for security to show you out?"
Jett Sterling looked toward Vivian Quinn, and when he saw she had no reaction, it was as if his heart had been dealt a heavy blow!
He laboriously maneuvered his wheelchair to leave.
Mason Landon went to close the door, then walked back and said, "Vivian, I’ll go make you something to eat."
"Thank you."
Mason Landon was a good cook. The lobster he made looked, smelled, and tasted incredible.
Vivian Quinn took a couple of bites and asked, "Aren’t you having any?"
"I’m not hungry. You eat up."
"In that case, I won’t hold back."
"No need to be polite with me."
Vivian Quinn spoke as she ate. "Mason, the only reason I let you in just now was to get Jett Sterling to leave. Don’t get the wrong idea. What I said before still stands. We should keep our distance."
"Vivian, I don’t understand," Mason Landon asked. "If you’re not going to divorce Jett Sterling, why are you so resistant when he comes to see you?"
Vivian Quinn’s lips curved, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes. "You don’t actually think I still have feelings for Jett Sterling, do you? I just want to make him suffer. And, of course, I’m also observing him—testing to see where his limits are."
"So what’s your end game?"
"I want everything Jett Sterling has!"
"...What did you say?"
"Is that a problem?" Vivian Quinn took another bite of lobster. "I’m Mrs. Sterling in name, after all. It’s not impossible for me to find a way to get my hands on my husband’s assets."
Mason Landon frowned. "Vivian, you’re not a greedy person."
"I wasn’t in the past, but that doesn’t mean I’m not now. Why is Jett Sterling so brazen? It’s simply because he’s backed by his wealth. Once I get my hands on his assets, no one will be a match for me."
"Vivian, there’s no need for this. Even without Jett Sterling’s wealth, we..." Mason Landon corrected himself. "You can still live a good life."
"Who told you I’m only after the money? What I want is to torment Jett Sterling. I want to make him pay."
"Vivian, it’s not worth it. Jett Sterling is not an easy man to deal with. And you shouldn’t waste your time and energy on someone like him!"
"You’re not me. How can you know what’s worth it? How can you know what I should or shouldn’t be doing?" Vivian Quinn said, clearly annoyed. "Mason, I hate it when people try to dictate how I live my life. Do you understand?"
"Vivian, you’ve really changed," Mason Landon said with a frown. "How could Jett Sterling have such a huge impact on you, enough to turn you into a completely different person?"
"I haven’t changed. I’ve just grown," Vivian Quinn said serenely. "I don’t see it as a bad thing. Growth is painful, yes, but for me, it’s a good thing."
"Vivian, I still don’t want to see you entangled with Jett Sterling," Mason Landon advised patiently. "Even if you won’t think about yourself, you have to consider Joy. What if Jett Sterling decides to target Joy?"
Vivian Quinn took a sip of her drink and spoke after a moment of thought. "I’m not saying I haven’t considered that possibility. But Joy can’t be my fatal weakness forever. I will do everything in my power to protect her, but if I can’t... then I guess I’ll just owe it to her."
Mason Landon was completely stunned. After a long moment, he finally nodded. "It seems you’re dead set on this."
"That’s right."
"Vivian, I’ve always known you were stubborn, but I never realized just how stubborn you could be."
Vivian Quinn smiled faintly, her eyes lifting to meet his. "So, do you find the person I am now completely detestable?"
"No. You’ve shattered my image of you," Mason Landon said, looking at her earnestly. "And like I said before, I can accept every part of you, no matter what that looks like."
Vivian Quinn averted her gaze and calmly resumed eating. "Then let me tell you this: I can never accept you. Love and romance aren’t that important to me anymore. The only thing I want to do, the only thing I have to do, is make everyone who has wronged me pay the price!"
"Have you considered that this path will be incredibly difficult? That you might need me by your side as an ally?"
"I don’t need any allies." Vivian Quinn smiled. "If I can’t even handle this on my own, then I’d be completely useless. I’m going to show everyone the price for crossing me. Especially... Jett Sterling!"
