Chapter 388: Can you do better?

Right after saying this, the young man immediately narrowed his eyes to look at me.

The way that he was looking at me, it was as if he was holding a grudge against me.

It was almost as if I was someone who had caused a great grievance to him that couldn’t be resolved. Almost as if I was the one that had killed his parents in front of him.

I really couldn’t understand why he was looking at me like this since it was just a simple laugh.

It wasn’t even a disdainful laugh, it was just that I had thought of something funny.

After looking at me in silence for a bit, that young man came forward.

The crowd parted for him and allowed him to approach me since they all thought that this matter was interesting. Though the faces of a few of them seemed like they wanted to take advantage of this situation.

If they were to help the young man in this situation, wouldn’t they be able to make a better deal later?

Once the young man came in front of me, he looked at me with the same look on his face as he said, "Are you looking down on me? The people that I hate the most are the people that look down on me."

I was surprised by how strongly the young man was coming on me, but I could also see slightly exhausted looks coming from his companions. It seemed that this was something that he did often, most likely because of his personality.

Shaking my head, I said with a sigh, "This friend, I wasn’t looking down on you. I just laughed because I remembered something funny, I wasn’t making fun of you."

I tried to defuse the situation since there was nothing to gain from picking a fight with this random person, but to my surprise...

"You think that you’re better than me? I know that you were looking down on me, that’s why you were laughing!" He shouted as if he had completely lost control.

It was clear that he wasn’t just angry, it was clear that there was some kind of unresolved emotion that he was projecting on me.

I didn’t care enough to bother with him and was about to turn to leave, but he just wouldn’t let me leave as he suddenly pulled out his sword and swung it down in front of me.

Though with his level of cultivation, it was easy for me to see right through his movement. I didn’t even need to bother dodging out of the way as I could easily see what he was up to.

Once the sword fell down in front of me, the young man said, "Where do you think you’re going? Do you really think that you can look down on me and get away with it?"

With the way that he looked, it was almost as if he wouldn’t let things be settled unless he could slice me to pieces.

There were some other people that wanted to come forward to help this young man, but then there were others that stopped them. That was because there were people that started to recognize me.

They didn’t know who I was at first, but then they started to recognize me when they got a closer look at me.

I was a person that was considered famous among the sects, so there were people that recognized me. Especially those disciples of the sects that had seen me before and had seen the things that I’ve done.

They knew that I wasn’t someone to be messed with.

The young man on the other hand didn’t seem like he understood the same thing as the others.

Even though there were some people that were shooting him looks to drop this matter.

Before he could swing his sword again, he found that he was suddenly surrounded by a bunch of people. All of them had their weapons out and pointed at him which completely restrained him.

When the young man saw this, there was a trace of fear that was in his eyes.

But he didn’t give up as he could see everyone that was around, so he said, "Do you see this? When he can’t win, he uses force to suppress me! This is the behaviour of a tyrant!"

Everyone just looked at this young man like he was an idiot, but no one said a thing.

Rather, all of them looked at me as if they were waiting to see what I would do.

Even the lackeys that had surrounded this young man were waiting to see what I would do.

Since it had come to this, I wouldn’t back down from his provocation.

As a prodigal young master, how could I back down now that it had gotten this far?

"Do you really think that you’re that great because you got lucky once? I didn’t even pay any attention to this matter because it wasn’t worth mentioning, how can you let it go to your head like this?" I said while spreading my hands in a careless manner.

The young man immediately knitted his brows and gritted his teeth, as if he was very angered by this.

Though he had lost his temper, it wasn’t as if he had completely lost control of himself.

This young man was the captain of a small mercenary group and he had been planning on using this person as a stepping stone to increase his reputation. Though it wasn’t as if it was completely because of this that he lost his temper like this.

Him losing his temper was real.

"Let’s make a bet." I said without a single care for the way that he looked at me.

"A bet?" The young man said in a confused voice.

"It’s very simple, we’ll both pick out some sealed artifacts and then we’ll crack them open. Whoever obtains the best ones will take the artifacts of the other party."
