Chapter 380: Shifting sands

Sensing this, I could guess what this staff was.

It should be the symbol of the once great empire that had existed in this place and the power of faith that the system talked about was the concentrated power of the nation.

There was a saying that the divine right to rule was given by god, but in truth...most power to rule came from the people.

The gathered power of the people was not weak, especially for a powerful empire that fell with time.

It was no wonder the invader was using that staff that concentrated the power of this once great nation as a conduit for their descent into this lower realm.

It certainly should have more than enough power to sustain them, but there was still one fatal flaw that couldn’t be ignored.

Since the nation that concentrated its power in this staff no longer existed, it meant that there was only a limited amount of energy in that staff. Once that energy was completely used up, the staff would become useless and would no longer serve as a conduit for the invader.

That meant that as long as all of the staff’s energy was used up, it would mean that the invader would no longer be able to remain in this lower realm.

That was why it had been hiding under the taboo zone that was the Tarask Desert all this time.

It was just biding its time to invade.

So the easiest way to take care of this invader was to use up all of the power that was in the staff.

No, the easiest way was to directly destroy the staff and that would send the invader out of this world, but I didn’t want to do that.

The staff was a representation of this once great empire after all.

It would be wrong to destroy it just to defeat this invader.

If I could, I would want to preserve the staff even if it lost its power in the fight.

That was the least I could do to respect the once great empire that had been in this place.

So once I understood where the power of this invader came from, I said to the four beasts that I summoned out, "Scatter and attack from different sides. Try to draw its attention if you can, but don’t fight it head on. We want to drain its power as much as we can."

They all looked at me with confused looks, but that didn’t stop them from jumping out in different directions since they trusted me.

Now that the room was lit up, it was easy for them to fight.

Three of these beasts were Transcendence Realm Spirit Beasts, so it wasn’t as if they were that weak to begin with. If they wanted to fight against the invader, then it was more than possible for them to fight against it.

Though winning...was hard to say.

As for the little monkey, it had a hard body in the first place, so there was no problem with its defenses. As long as it didn’t let itself be caught, then there was no way that the invader would be able to hurt it.

With the speed of the little monkey and the support that came from the other three, it was able to poke at the invader without being hit back.

As for me, I snapped my finger and condensed my laws around the invader.

Once I condensed the laws in the air around the invader, I just brought my hand down and let them crash down on the invader.

My law attacks provided support for the four spirit beasts as they attacked from different sides.

The way that we were attacking made it clear that we were just stalling for time and wasting the energy of the invader, but it seemed that the pride of the invader wouldn’t let it back down.

This was what I had expected from the moment that it called itself an emperor.

I knew that this invader had a lot of pride and it wouldn’t back down if it was challenged like this.

So I made sure that it seemed like we were the ones that were challenging it.

The problem was that...it didn’t seem like any of our attacks had any effects.

"It seems like it doesn’t have an actual form..." I couldn’t help saying to myself as I watched our attacks rain down on the sand emperor.

This sand emperor was just a figure that was condensed from sand in the first place, so it didn’t seem to have an actual form. As our attacks seemed like they were hitting the sand emperor, all that happened was that the sand shifted out of the way when our attacks landed, so there was no damage at all.

We couldn’t find the actual form of the invader, we were just hitting the sand that we thought was its form.

It seemed like we wouldn’t be able to do anything to it like this.

But at the very least, it didn’t seem like the invader was able to attack with us suppressing it like this.

It seemed like it wasn’t willing to use any large moves since it was concerned about the amount of energy that was left inside of the staff. It naturally also knew that the staff was the source of its energy in this lower realm, so it wasn’t willing to take the extra risk by using those big attacks that would drain the energy of the staff.

"It seems like this will be a long grind, but I doubt that it will allow us to keep chipping away at it like this..." I said as I saw some of the sand falling to the ground.

This sand seemed like it had lost all life and wouldn’t return to the sand emperor.

This at least showed that it was losing energy, but I also knew that it was impossible for things to remain balanced like this.

A cornered beast was the most dangerous after all.

"Call out Gao Fu Shuai and have him use his Void Sword Law on this invader."
