Chapter 59: Chapter: 58 We want equality!

It was nighttime at Royal Arcane Academy.

No one had gone back to their dorms yet.

Tonight was special, the big election event in the auditorium!

All three candidates would give their final speeches and make their last promises before voting tomorrow morning.

The whole school was invited, so the place was packed.

"Did you place a bet on who’s gonna win?" one student asked his friends as they walked into the huge auditorium.

The auditorium looked amazing. It was shaped like a giant circle, almost like an open-air stadium for magic sports.

The ceiling was completely open, showing a sky full of bright stars twinkling above everyone’s heads.

"Yeah," his friend grinned. "I bet on Zenifar Rose."

The first guy laughed. "Zenifar? Seriously? She’s got the lowest chance!"

"Exactly!" the betting friend said proudly.

"That’s why the odds are crazy good. If she somehow wins, I get 50 times my money back. I’ll be rich!"

"Bro, that’s never gonna happen," another friend said, shaking his head.

"It’s basically guaranteed Alia Ruth is taking this. You’re just throwing money away."

The betting guy just shrugged with a big smirk.

"It wasn’t much money anyway. But if I win... hello, jackpot! You never know, miracles happen." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Haha, you’re such an idiot," they all laughed together as they pushed through the crowd.

Little conversations like that were buzzing everywhere as more and more students poured in, excited and noisy.

Meanwhile...

Around the main academy building, far from the noisy auditorium, it was super quiet.

Almost no students were left here. Everyone had gone to watch the speeches.

But in the shadows near one of the side gates, a strange group had gathered.

Ten people, all wearing pure white masks that covered their faces and dark hooded cloaks that hid their bodies completely.

"Is everything ready?" the leader asked in a low voice. His mask made his words sound a little muffled.

"Yes, leader," one of them answered quickly. "Everything is set."

He stepped forward a bit and explained the plan in a calm, serious tone.

"The students are all inside the auditorium right now, just like we wanted. First step: we destroy the transportation gates so no one can escape or call for outside help."

"Then, exactly 400 meters away from the auditorium, we start the summoning."

The leader nodded slowly. Under his mask, you could almost feel his smile.

"But leader..." one of the masked figures spoke up. His voice sounded unsure.

"Why do we have to do the summoning 400 meters away?"

"If we just summon it right in front of the auditorium, the damage and the deaths would be way higher."

"None of the students could stop it. Even the teachers would have a hard time fighting whatever we summon."

"Plus, it would take them longer to reach the summon spot if we do it far away. That means more chaos, more—"

The leader cut him off with a sharp hand raise. "No need to keep going."

He spoke firmly, leaving no room for argument.

"We have strict orders. The summoning happens exactly 400 meters away. We can’t disobey."

"And from our intel, all the strongest professors are out of the academy right now anyway."

The unsure guy shut up instantly.

The leader walked over and sat on a big rock nearby.

He leaned forward, elbows on his knees. "Are all the things we need for the summoning here?"

"Yes." Another masked figure stepped forward.

He was carrying a plain black briefcase. He set it down, clicked the locks open, and lifted the lid.

Inside were glowing crystals, strange black powders in small jars, a rolled-up piece of parchment with a complicated circle drawn on it, and a few sharp ritual knives.

"These are everything required for the summoning," the figure said.

"The blueprint for the circle is here too." He closed the briefcase with a snap and handed it to the leader.

"They said we must start exactly one hour from now."

He paused and looked around at the group. His eyes burned with fierce determination behind the mask.

"And if we pull this off... if we kill every student in this academy... we’ll finally get what we’ve always wanted."

The words lit a fire in everyone. Their eyes shone brightly, excited, angry, hopeful all at once.

The leader stood up slowly. He nodded. "We are all equal. Today we take the first big step toward that equality."

"Sure, there are commoners in there too... but some sacrifices are necessary for the greater good."

The group stared at him with pure fire in their eyes.

One by one, they stepped closer.

They held out their hands and stacked them on top of each other, forming a tight circle, like a team huddle before the biggest game of their lives.

"We’ve been oppressed since the day we were born," one of them said through gritted teeth.

"Always looked down on. Always discriminated against."

Another voice joined in, low and angry. "But the Zlycons aren’t like that. Our history books paint them as monsters, but they believe in real equality."

"No nobles. No peasants. No hierarchy. Everyone the same."

"That’s what we want!" someone else shouted quietly.

The leader looked straight into every pair of eyes. "That’s why every privileged noble in there has to die."

"Especially that arrogant bitch Rosalina, the one who always acts like she’s better than everyone!"

He raised his stacked hand higher. The others matched him.

"We want..." he started.

"Equality!" the whole group shouted together, voices shaking with passion.

Their hands stayed stacked for a long second. Then they broke apart, nodding to each other.

While all this was happening at the Royal Arcane Academy, the Holy Empire was not free from trouble either.

The air was filled with joy, but at the same time, there was a dark and uneasy feeling.

Compared to the academy, time in the Holy Empire was a few hours ahead. It was already morning there.

Morning had passed, and today was the day of the Saint Trial.

"Oh Goddess Benigore, please give us humans hope. Please let the chosen one pass the trial."

This prayer echoed all across the Holy Empire, just two hours before the Saint Trial began.
